Chapter 1365: Murdered
“It’s been ten floors already. We have gained a lot, haven’t we?” Nathan smirked while turning to Luna.
Luna nodded. “Yes. From my calculations, we have gotten about 602 proto-class cores, 315 juvenile class cores, 80 mature class cores, and 17 warrior class cores, along with some mutant cores. However, we haven’t found an elite class core yet, so it might be down there.”
Luna had a photographic memory, so Nathan didn’t doubt her calculation. It was indeed a harvest. In fact, the lower they were, the higher the quality of the cores they would get.
In addition, they noticed the increase in security and the change of materials on the lower floors. It looked like they had made it sturdier to ensure that the aliens couldn’t escape.
Still, it was surprising that the humans could have built this facility in the past. It was even able to capture so many things.
“This place is wondrous.” Nathan muttered.
“Of course. This place was made by a rather eccentric lord in the past. He captured all these aliens himself because he wanted to learn more about the aliens,” added Regina.
Nathan glanced at the edge. “I think I can see the bottom now.”
Regina checked it as well and muttered, “There seems to be a total of 20 levels. We have covered half of the floor. It took us 16 hours just to reach this floor, but the harvest was definitely worth it.”
“Hmm…” Fenrir also took a look, but he only furrowed his eyebrows without saying anything.
“What’s wrong, Fenrir?” Nathan asked.
“It’s nothing.” Fenrir shook his head.
“What is it? Whether your information is useless or not worth the time is for me to decide.” Nathan squinted his eyes.
Fenrir paused for a moment before saying, “I just feel something weird from down there. I might be wrong. I don’t know what it is, though.”
“…” Nathan’s expression turned grim. Fenrir might be wrong, but that instinct had been honed to almost perfection.
If he felt something was wrong, this might be a sign of danger.
“Hmmm… Let me check!” Nathan closed his eyes while bending his knees and placing his hand on the floor.
Spatial Sense.
Nathan activated his power to check the void. He couldn’t see what was going on below nor differentiate them. However, he could sense something moving, so he wanted to see if there was actually a survivor.
But to his surprise, there was nothing wrong. He couldn’t feel anyone who was still alive. “There’s nothing here, though.”
“As I said, I might be wrong.” Fenrir shook her head.
Xolotl, on the other hand, rubbed his chin. “Little Wolf. You might want to turn into your crystal form to ensure this guy’s protection.”
“!!!” Nathan and the others were surprised. Considering Xolotl was Nathan’s strongest familiar, his insight shouldn’t be ignored.
Fenrir didn’t know what was going on, but protecting Nathan was a higher priority compared to asking whatever question he had in mind.
Luna and Regina paused for a moment. Since Nathan had activated the crystal armor, they also summoned their respective familiars.
Regina formed a sword in her hand, her ears turned into fins, a few parts of her skin turned into scales, and her eyes turned blue. On the other hand, Luna had a shadow above her, but there was no change in her appearance.
“What is going on, Xolotl? Did you notice something?” Nathan asked carefully.
“I’m not entirely sure. As the little wolf said, something is wrong down there.” Xolotl crossed his arms. “I need to get closer to inspect it. But from what I can see, there is a weird power that is hard to describe.
“It feels similar to a divinity in one way, but I don’t think it’s a divinity. It might be something related to it. Do you want me to go down first to check what it is? I need to be as close as possible to check it.”
Nathan thought for a moment before shaking his head. “No. It’s better to go together. Since we are here, let’s proceed with the original plan. However, everyone has to be careful. Once we are close enough, you can feel it and see what’s going on.”
“Sure. Let’s do that.” Xolotl agreed casually while still furrowing his eyebrows. Since he couldn’t figure out what it was, Xolotl turned back to his beast form.
“Let’s continue even more carefully right now. Make sure we don’t miss a single detail. Since there are more high-level aliens, we can see their corpses to see whether they have a natural death or not.” Nathan waved his hand.
Luna and Regina agreed with him. As expected, since there were high-level aliens, they should be extra careful. The elite class aliens had a unique ability, so there might be a unique ability that could be planted here and stay for so long.
In the end, they didn’t know much about the aliens, so they had to be careful.
However, as they continued, there was nothing strange. The aliens had died because they couldn’t withstand the passage of time.
There were indeed some riots due to the starvation, but they didn’t seem to cause their deaths.
In fact, all the aliens had remained in their cells. The floor might be dusty, but they rarely saw blood.
Some humans seemed to have died as well.
While Nathan and the others couldn’t find anything, the same couldn’t be said of Xolotl.
Xolotl muttered, “Something is weird. Now that I think about it… the humans have died as well, right?”
“Yes?” Nathan tilted his head in confusion.
“If you are trapped here and will die, what are you going to do before you die?”
Nathan opened his mouth, but before he answered, he came to a realization. “I would struggle to survive?”
“!!!” Both Regina and Luna widened their eyes. That was right. They forgot to consider this possibility.
“Survive? That means eating the aliens or even other humans to last for as long as possible… Or even devouring the cores to get stronger so that they could break through?” Regina dropped her jaw.
“That’s right. That’s what they’re supposed to do. No matter how disciplined they are, one or two people will definitely do such a thing. Summoner, you should have noticed it.” Xolotl narrowed his eyes.
“Sorry, my mistake.” Nathan apologized sincerely. “I forgot about it. I originally thought there were supposed to be no humans here as they should have been evacuated or sent out by the warden of this place rather than trapped here.”
Xolotl frowned. “Anyway, this must be why this place is filled with death energy. Yet, for some reason, we notice this weird power at the bottom instead of death energy. Don’t you think it’s strange?”
“All of them were murdered, not dead from starvation!” Nathan felt chills down his spine.
