Stuck in a Chinese novel - Chapter 632
Chapter 632: Do Not Read
Chapter 6
“Supremes?” Alexander asked the white-haired man as they both sat in front of the bonfire. Alexander was covered in dirt and bruises, while the white-haired man simply kept the bonfire going.
“Yep. Beings who have surpassed the limit of the world and have entered the realm of transcendence.” The white-haired man replied.
“Are you a Supreme?” Alexander asked the white-haired man, but the white-haired man only chuckled and didn’t reply.
That wasn’t the main topic after all. “Supremes are beings bound by a certain set of rules, laws they cannot break. Such as if the Supreme of righteousness wanted to do something wrong, he wouldn’t be able to, or if the Supreme was bound by the law of truth, wanted to lie, he wouldn’t be able to.”
“But they’re strong?” To Alexander, only that mattered.
“That they sure are.” The white haired man replied.
“Then can I become like them?” Alexander asked.
“If you mean to ask, can you become like them power-wise, then yes, you can. But if you want to be like them, then why would you even want that?” The white haired man asked.
“To be strong,” Alexander replied.
“Didn’t you hear me say that they are bound? Why would you want to live like that?” The white haired man asked.
“…” Alexander remained silent. He had no answer to that.
“Haha.” The white haired man chuckled before he said, “Listen up, brat. Power without freedom is useless. Strength that cannot guarantee freedom is borrowed. Strength that cannot be denied, even by the will of the world, that is the real power. The power you should aim for.”
Alexander listened to each and every word of the white haired man with utmost focus. To him, his words were absolute.
“Anyway, that is not why I initiated this conversation.” The white haired man said before he asked, “How would you deal with a Supreme if you were to ever encounter them?”
“…” Alexander remained silent, and he remained silent for quite a while before he shook his head and replied, “I can only say by obtaining a lot of power.”
“But what if you don’t have power? What if you were to face one now?” The white haired man asked.
“I… don’t know.” Alexander didn’t know. He didn’t know how to deal with an entity that was stronger than his imagination could allow.
“Divine laws.” The white haired man replied.
“Divine laws?” Alexander asked.
“Mhm.” The white haired man nodded before he explained, “Supremes are imprisoned in an alternate dimension, one where they hold little influence over this world. To interact with this world, they’d need faith. That’s what power of divinity. What you need to do is use those divine laws against them. If a Supreme of truth cannot lie, then use it against him. If a Supreme Being of righteousness had no right to dictate your life, use that against him.”
“Supremes are the most powerful yet most powerless beings at the same time. You just have to make the scenario right for them to be powerless.”
~~
As the eyes of the statue opened, the sword of the paladin heading for me lost all divine aura embedded in it, and a transparent bubble appeared around me that blocked the strike of the paladin.
The Supreme of Justice, Tamara, in this case, was now here. In essence, the Supremes were not literal gods, so one could say they couldn’t be present at every hearing. However, if they were called, then the most just hearing would commence. One in which there was no need for testimonies, evidence, or witnesses to decide the outcome.
A simple statement would be required, and the Supreme would have enough power over the sentence to determine truth or lie.
As the divine wave spread throughout the room, I sensed divinity emitting from the statue, but from somewhere else as well. I turned to find a girl my age, her hair and eyes silvery white, also looking at the statue with wide eyes.
‘A representative.’ I thought. She must have been the representative of a strong Supreme for her to freely exude divinity. The only problem was which one? Not all Supremes were righteous. Just like there was a Supreme of goodwill, there was a Supreme of ill will as well.
Screech!!!!!
A deafening sound spread throughout the hall, originating from the statue. I turned to look at it and replied, “I was just a little surprised.”
“…” Silence enveloped the hall. I guess they couldn’t interpret the words of divinity, so seeing me talk to one of the Supremes, gods to them, was a great shock.
Another screech sound that assaulted everyone’s ears, but with less intensity than before, spread throughout the room.
“Yes. I have called you here to be the deciding judge of this sentence. My judgment.” I replied before I turned to look at the old man, who wore a terrified expression.
“I have been accused of killing my own father.” I began. I didn’t know if it was so, but according to everyone else, that was how it sounded like so…
“They, however, have denied me the right to defend myself by any means. I wish for you to interfere and judge for yourself. If no wrong is sensed in their words, then may my heart turn to stone, but if I am indeed innocent, then the same fate may befall them.” I finished speaking, and as soon as I did, the faces of the old men turned pale.
Yet, no one could speak. How could anyone speak in the presence of such intense and pure divinity?
Well, I could.
I brought out the mana beads in the subspace and began to sort them calmly on the floor. To cast an eighth circle teleportation spell and a fourth circle detection spell simultaneously, this many mana beads were not enough.
Once the beads were arranged and the teleportation spell had been set up, I stood up to look at the statue to find it looking at me as well. Would you look at her? She was observing me instead of doing what she was supposed to be doing.
She wasn’t the only one observing me. Everyone else was as well. They were curious, to say the least, to see me do something with mana beads. Some held questions like how he got those or what they were.
I ignored them and continued. I proceeded to cut my wrist and let my blood flow to the mana beads. My blood was infused with my spiritual energy, which was enough for one spell to be cast. But that wasn’t what I was going to do.
Although sorcery or witchcraft was a better option with the help of spiritual energy, I couldn’t just do so in the presence of divinity. So, I had to improvise.
Enhanced mana.
A state in which the mana consumption lessened by a good 50% and the effect increased by 100%. In this case, if I were to cast the teleportation spell, the distance would be 300-400 km, while the cost would be a lot less.
But that came with another problem.
If I cast the first spell and then the second, it would take too much time. Not only would the enhanced state end, but the time Supreme could stay in this realm would shorten as well, risking my escape and life at the same time.
What I needed to do was to cast them both at the same time.
Dual casting, in other words.
I sighed and stood up, turning to look at Tamara, who was still looking at me, but the light in her eyes was receding as seconds passed by. She wouldn’t be able to maintain herself in this realm for long.
“It seems you’re intrigued,” I said before I stretched both of my arms to my left and right and began to weave the magic circles. In the olden times, magic required casting, but my mother discovered the method of no casting, and I perfected it.
Now, with a few gestures of my hands, I could cast spells as complex as ninth circle spells and in a lot less time.
“It doesn’t look like you understand what mana truly is,” I said, looking at her, and she looked at me. Soon enough, two magic circles began to form beneath my feet before they multiplied. One of them remained at my feet while the other one rose above my head slowly.
Then both of them began to connect by the lightning tendrils that emitted from the edges of the upper circle and connected with the one beneath my feet.
“Mana is the will of this world and the human will to distort that will and bend it to their will…” I looked at her for one final time and added, “That is the true essence of magic.”
Shoom!!!
A mana wave spread throughout the area. The magic circle beneath my feet began to expand until it reached the stands but didn’t cross them, while the one over my head began to rise until it reached the ceiling of the hall. Then, from the one at my feet, eight more circles began to weave.
The rose until they were at a perfect distance from all eight of them. Once they were done, mini circles began to form in the middle of each major circle. Eighth circle spells, especially spatial spells, required utmost perfection. One wrong move and your body could turn upside down upon forming.
“What is that?”
