Capítulo 484: Chapter 484 – Crazy Comprehension
After comprehending the two Fragments, Kyle went back to Sebastian to ask him for something.
He wanted a machine that could create as much heat as possible.
The Fragment of Fire Heat dictated how Ether worked at high temperatures.
Kyle could create almost all levels of heat by himself by just launching explosions.
He would just need to watch how the heat naturally acted.
However, he also needed to know how heat worked at the highest levels.
“I would suggest nuclear fusion, but atoms aren’t really a thing here,” Sebastian said. “But what I can give you is extreme heat made via electrical resistance.”
Sebastian asked Kyle to create several parts for a machine and construct it.
It was essentially a long wire surrounded by a big chamber that could keep a vacuum.
Kyle put his hand into the machine by changing the metal surrounding it, essentially melting it onto his hand.
Then, he used his Law of Wind to remove all the air inside the chamber and grabbed the wire.
“Here I go,” Sebastian said as he shoved all of his lightning into the wire.
The wire quickly started to heat up, and it didn’t stop.
After some seconds, Kyle’s hand started to receive some burns, and Kyle even had to grit his teeth a bit.
This shit was hot!
Like, actually hot!
“Just tell me when it’s hot enough,” Sebastian said.
“Leave it like this for now,” Kyle answered.
“Alright,” Sebastian said as red lightning appeared on the other end of the machine.
The white lightning added heat to one side of the wire, and the red lightning absorbed enough of the energy to keep the temperature stable and fed it back into Sebastian.
Kyle could see how the Ether acted inside the machine by simply using his Ether Sense.
The pain was immense, but Kyle had already gotten used to it.
“You know, this also is quite useful for me,” Sebastian said. “I’m only missing Yin-Lightning’s Base Fragment, which should be its capability to absorb energy. It’s basically the very thing that makes it different from normal lightning.”
“By trying to become more efficient with the absorption, I’m sure I can learn more about its absorption effects.”
Kyle nodded without saying a word.
He was in immense pain and wasn’t interested in talking.
From time to time, Sebastian changed the heat in the machine to allow Kyle to watch as the logic of the transforming Ether changed on different levels.
Learning the low levels of heat wasn’t hard. Kyle had essentially learned all about that in the past.
However, the higher levels needed some time.
Over the next three months or so, Sebastian and Kyle worked together to help Kyle understand the Fragment of Fire Heat.
Luckily, that was enough for Kyle, and he finally comprehended the Fragment of Fire Heat.
When he was done, Kyle pulled his hand out of the machine, breaking it in the process.
“You’re done?” Sebastian asked.
“Yep,” Kyle said, looking at his hand slowly regenerate.
For the past three months, he felt like he had held his hand into an open flame.
It hurt so fucking much, but after some hours, he had gotten used to it.
At some point, he just dissociated, and the brutal pain became background noise.
“You know, I think I know the reason why you comprehend Fragments and Laws so quickly,” Sebastian said.
“Huh?” Kyle asked, looking at Sebastian.
“I mean, you’re comprehending entire Laws within five years or less. Usually, people on our level need decades for even a single Fragment. Sure, our Law Sparks and our Aristocrat’s Bodies help, but that’s not the primary reason why you’re so fast at comprehending stuff.”
“It’s because you’re so extreme in your comprehension,” Sebastian said. “Nobody just shoves their hand into a flame to learn how it works. They throw other objects in. They watch from a distance how the Ether changes.”
“Wait a second,” Kyle said. “I thought it was normal to comprehend Fragments like I do.”
He remembered that Theodor had been the one who had told Kyle how to comprehend Fragments.
From the very beginning, Theodor had told Kyle to feel the power of the Fragments with his own body.
“It really isn’t,” Sebastian said. “We’re also all just human. We aren’t the biggest fans of pain. I also only started comprehending Laws like this because I saw how much resistance to pain you have.”
“I think everyone has thought about doing that before, but the increase in speed just doesn’t seem worth the torment. Imagine there’s a millionaire on Earth. His wealth is growing by 100k a year. Do you think that millionaire would be willing to double the speed of his growth in exchange for having a permanent case of kidney stones?”
“Probably not,” Kyle said. “I mean, he’s already a millionaire.”
That was when Kyle realized something.
This was different from Theodor’s situation.
Theodor was on the back foot since he had been an Artificer, not an Expert.
Comprehending Fragments for him was extremely difficult.
In this metaphor, Theodor wouldn’t be a millionaire but someone just barely getting by.
Some people might accept that metaphorical deal if they didn’t have a lot of wealth and their salary rose from 40k to 80k.
Kyle didn’t need to go that extreme when it came to Law comprehension.
He had more than enough time to learn the Laws the easy way.
He had a bit more than 200 years of longevity left.
Naturally, no matter how he chose to comprehend the Laws, he would be able to finish either way.
In essence, he was basically overworking himself without needing to.
“Huh, I hadn’t thought about that,” Kyle said.
“But you won’t change,” Sebastian said with a smile.
Kyle shrugged. “I’ve already gotten used to it. It’s barely an annoyance at this point. I’ve always comprehended Laws like this, and it worked out.”
Sebastian chuckled a bit. “I get it. I mean, I also changed how I comprehend Laws, and it has paid off quite well. Sure, it still hurts a lot to get zapped by Yin-Lightning all day, but the progress I make is incredible.”
Sebastian smirked. “I might actually finish Yin-Lightning before you finish your Law of Fire.”
Kyle took a deep breath.
Yin-Lightning was a Pure Level Two Law!
That thing had to be more than twice as complicated as a Level One Law!
By comprehending this thing, Sebastian would have already gained the qualification to advance to the Fifth Realm!
This was akin to someone comprehending a Full Level One Law in the Second Realm!
Kyle once again realized that Sebastian was terrifyingly talented.
