Capítulo 1956: Origin of the sea witches (2)
In the end, the truth behind the sea witches revealed a truth that was deeply ingrained in the foundations of this world.
After all, there was nothing that anyone could do unless they had the strength to do so.
In the case of the sea witches, they gained the strength that they were able to be unaffected.
The first sea witch was a special case who had special abilities.
In my past life, it would have been known as Savant Syndrome.
That first sea witch had this unusual ability to create potions, but she wasn’t the kind of recluse that one might think she was. She was someone that used this ability to help others and it didn’t take long for her to find people that wanted to learn from her.
But for her to pass on this ability, it meant that she had to pass on something else as well.
“It’s true that we still use that essence in our potions, but we’ve moved away from it since we’ve found more effective things…” Zyra couldn’t help muttering to herself when she finished listening to what the kraken said.
“Is that so? That was the main reason that tyrant god was angry at the sea witches to begin with.” The kraken said in a surprised voice.
“Well, most of our potions have it as a foundation, but it isn’t as if we can’t replace it. There was a time where that essence was in short supply, so we had to adapt.”
“The ability to adapt that mortals have really is something else.” The kraken said in an amazed voice.
The way that it said this was almost as if it wasn’t a part of the mortal realm.
But thinking about it, it did seem to make sense since the kraken was technically a messenger for a god. It had naturally been imbued with the divine energy that was needed for this, so it could be considered part god already.
“Well, the tyrant god doesn’t really care if you’ve moved away from it or not. After all, that tyrant god only cares about what happened in the past. The fact that you’ve used it before is more than enough for him to want to chase you away.” The kraken said in a voice that was filled with disdain.
“Then why didn’t he move when we opened up the relationship between the sea witches and the Merman Empire?” I asked all of a sudden.
The kraken fell silent when it heard this.
The look on its face made it very clear that the kraken wasn’t certain about this.
Even though it had acted aggressively, the kraken fell silent when these questions were brought up.
It wasn’t as if they had just isolated the races that had been banished, they had also isolated themselves from the rest of the world. It wasn’t strange that the kraken would seem uncertain at this point.
But I also had the same worries.
After all, now that I knew this history, it really seemed strange that Aquaron never did anything when I went to meet the sea witches.
It wasn’t as if they couldn’t have reached me if they didn’t want me to do anything with the sea witches. It would have been very easy for a god like Aquaron to summon me or send some kind of sign to stop me.
So why didn’t they do so?
Was it because I was the one that was chosen as the god’s representative or was it something else?
I couldn’t help feeling a throbbing sensation in my brain, it really was hard trying to figure out what a god was thinking as a mortal. This really wasn’t something that normal mortals had to worry about.
After a long silence, Zyra said, “It doesn’t matter right now since everyone has a common enemy.”
The kraken seemed to have some doubt on its face, but it seemed to nod in agreement in the end.
Instead of dwelling on this, the kraken asked, “What else has been passed down from your ancestors, Elder Sea Witch?”
“What do you mean?” Zyra asked in a confused voice.
The kraken just calmly replied, “There were some things that we had exchanged for with the sea witches in the past and some of that includes information that you might be interested in. I’m just not certain what has been passed down and what hasn’t, so I don’t know what I’m supposed to give you.”
Zyra’s eyes lit up the moment that she heard this before saying, “Come, come, let me show you my research.”
This wasn’t an offer that she would make to anyone else, but the status of the kraken made it trustworthy enough that she would show it what it wanted to see.
The kraken gave a nod in response to accept this.
It seemed that the sea witches were far more worthy of its respect compared to the Merman Empire, even though they were technically both mermaids.
It seemed that what happened in the past between the kraken and the sea witches was not something that was that easily forgotten.
Since Zyra wanted to show the kraken her experiments, that meant that she had to go to the place where her notes were. That meant bringing the kraken away from the Merman Empire’s capital and to where the sea witches lived.
The Merman King seemed to hesitate over this, but eventually he agreed when I said, “I’ll watch over them.”
I was the only one that the kraken listened to after all.
So even though the Merman King was still worried that the kraken would cause trouble, he still agreed to let the kraken leave the Merman Empire’s capital.
With our small group, we went to Zyra’s lab.
While the two of them seemed occupied with their conversation, I asked the former crown prince, “Do you have any records around here? I want to take a look at them for myself.”
The former crown prince was surprised, but he still agreed to show me.
Though when he did, I could see the strange look that he was giving him.
The save function only works when the day is over and it takes an hour for a day to finish…
