“How could this be?”
This was a meeting of the ministers of the Merman Empire that had been called by the Merman King.
When they entered this meeting, their expressions had been lighthearted.
They were confused and a bit curious why the Merman King had called this meeting, but it wasn’t as if they had expected anything big.
There were a few that seemed to have expected something, but it wasn’t as if they expected this large piece of news to be dropped by the Merman King.
No one was able to expect something like this…
Many of them looked at the Merman King as if they were hoping that this was some kind of joke, but the Merman King looked back at them with a calm and serious look on his face.
With how long they’ve known the Merman King, they knew that this wasn’t a joke.
But since this wasn’t a joke, that meant that this was even more serious than they thought.
None of the ministers were able to say anything since they didn’t even know how to respond in this situation.
However, the longer that they sat there, the more that the pressure of this situation weighed on them.
They knew that remaining silent was not an option and that they had to do something about this.
“We have to hide this.”
Once one of the ministers said this, it was as if all of the ministers saw a glimpse of hope and they all jumped on this. All of them started giving suggestions on how they could hide this matter once more.
The Merman King just silently listened to all of this before saying, “We can’t do any of that.”
All of the ministers revealed ugly looks on their faces when they heard this, but this wasn’t strange since the Merman King had basically cut down their one and only hope.
“Why?” One of the ministers asked in a serious tone.
“Let me introduce someone.” The Merman King said before opening the door to reveal me.
I had been waiting on standby in the side room, listening to everything that happened.
When the ministers saw me step out, they couldn’t help revealing confused looks. After all, it wasn’t as if these ministers had never met me before and many of them had worked with me on racial alliance matters.
So when I stepped out, it was only natural that they would be confused since there was no introduction that was needed.
But the one that the Merman King wanted to introduce wasn’t me.
The one that the Merman King wanted to introduce was…
“More of Aquaron’s dogs I see.”
As soon as I came out, these words rang through the room.
They didn’t come from my mouth, but rather they came from the mouth of the kraken who was floating beside me.
Other than by my side, it didn’t seem like the kraken wanted to remain in this place at all. So I had no choice but to accompany the kraken when it entered this meeting room.
All of the ministers couldn’t help narrowing their eyes when they heard this, but they looked at me rather than at the kraken that was beside me. Even though the voice was different, they didn’t think that it was the kraken that spoke.
They thought that it was something that possessed me that spoke.
“What are you looking at? Stop trying to pressure the Holy Son.”
The Merman King gave a sigh before pointing at the kraken and saying, “This is the representative of Lord Aestum, the one that has been sheltering the different races that were driven out previously.”
Once they heard this, the ministers looked at the kraken with strange looks.
At this, the kraken suddenly swelled up and released a pressure that was different from the aura that it gave off before. Once they felt this, the ministers knew that this kraken was anything but normal.
However, they were senior officials and they weren’t that easily scared.
“Even if you are the representative of Lord Aestum, that doesn’t give you the right to talk to us like that.” One representative among the ministers said this to the kraken.
The kraken just said with a snort, “This is just how the dogs of that tyrant would act.”
The Merman King looked at me, so I grabbed the kraken and shook my head at it.
When the kraken saw this, that was when it backed down.
After all, the only person that it respected in this room was me, so it listened to me when I asked it to stop.
The ministers still had ugly looks on their faces when the kraken backed down, but at least they didn’t pick another fight with the kraken. They had more important things to handle since they were senior officials with experience.
They knew that the Merman King had a reason for introducing this kraken to them.
However, they did look at me as if they were asking me to keep the kraken in check.
I couldn’t help giving a secret bitter smile at the fact that I was caught up between the two sides. I had thought that it would be simple meeting the god’s messenger that I wanted to recruit, but now I had gotten caught up in this huge mess that was related to the very foundation of the Merman Empire.
Once the ministers were all looking at him, the Merman King said in a serious voice, “I want to fix the mistakes of the past and bring back the races that were expelled previously. I want to bring them back here so that they can live free lives once more.”
“Your majesty!” All of the ministers seemed like they had something to say about this, but it wasn’t as if they could talk at the same time.
So one representative among them was chosen in the end who said, “Your majesty, this can’t be done. If this is revealed, it will cause the very collapse of our empire.”
“I understand, which is why we won’t be telling them the whole truth. But before that, there’s someone else that we have to convince…” The Merman King gave a sigh after saying this.
