Capítulo 1948: Ancestral tomb (3)
The room that was opened was just a corridor that didn’t have anything in it.
As I thought, it really was a pain to move through this place.
But it turned out that it was even more of a pain than I thought.
Once we entered the corridor, the Merman King and Ariel went to different sides of this corridor. They moved right up to the wall and raised their hands once more as if they were going to activate something else.
But this time, it didn’t seem like anything activated when they pressed their hands up against the walls.
It was only after they did this that the Merman King waved his hand for us to follow him.
I couldn’t help looking at him with a confused look when I saw this.
Seeing the way that I looked at him, the Merman King explained, “There’s a trap here that needs to be disabled before we head down this corridor.”
A wry smile snuck into my lips when I heard this.
First there was the entrance that needed to be activated to open, then there was the door that had to be activated as well, finally there was this trap that had to be disabled before we could progress any further.
It certainly was a thorough defense system, but it really was a pain getting around with all of this in place.
“It’s not what we designed, it’s what was here in the first place. Our ancestors just took advantage of this and bound the controls to the royal family’s bloodline so we can use it for ourselves.” The Merman King also revealed a wry smile when he said this.
I gave a nod when I heard this and didn’t give another remark.
After all, I knew that this information was without a doubt secret information that should have only been passed down among the royal family. To trust me with this kind of information was an honour and there was nothing to question.
Continuing on like this, we had to open up several more doors and disable several more traps before we finally arrived at a place that seemed like a tomb.
This was a room that had many different statues in it, which were spread out all over the room.
Each of these statues clearly represented something. The appearance of each of these statues showed that they should have belonged to one of the ancestors of the royal family.
Only the Merman King completely ignored everything that was here.
At this point, it seemed that Ariel didn’t know where to go either. This should have been as far as she had been taken to before this.
After all, this place was where the tombs of the royal family were. If there was anything that was beyond this, she wouldn’t have needed to know since she wasn’t the ruler of this nation.
Beyond this point, only the Merman King and Merman Queen should know what was there.
The Merman King didn’t move right away when we entered this room. Instead, he stood there looking at the different statues that were in this room.
As he looked over them, there was this complicated look on his face as if he didn’t know how to feel.
It even seemed that there was a part of him that was hoping that he wouldn’t find anything here.
After all, anything that he found here would shatter the belief that he held the entire time. Once this belief was shattered, it would be hard for him to know what to do in the future.
The Merman Queen seemed worried about him, so she came forward and raised her hand as if she wanted to say something.
But in the end, the Merman King just shook his head and said, “I’m fine, there’s no need to worry.”
The Merman Queen didn’t really seem to believe him, but she still gave a nod in response.
Taking a deep breath, the Merman King gave a nod and waved his hand at Ariel. She gave a nod and swam over to where he was floating.
After that, the two of them moved to the other side of this room. Before they reached the end, the Merman King suddenly stopped.
The place that he stopped wasn’t the other side of the room, but rather two thirds of the way in.
He stopped in between two specific statues before heading to the wall that was behind them.
Once he was at this wall, the Merman King waved his hand at Ariel so that they could do the same thing as before. With the two of them standing in front of the wall like this, they placed their hands on the wall and there was an opening that appeared.
This opening was different from the others.
The moment that this opening appeared, there was this burst of mana that came out with it.
It wasn’t a small burst of mana that was released, it was quite the large burst of mana that came from inside of that room which was more than enough to show what kind of things were in there.
The Merman King didn’t go in at first as if he was waiting for something.
After a while, it seemed like the wave of mana that was coming out from inside of the room was weakening. It seemed that this wave of mana was the backed up mana that had been in the room.
It seemed that this place hadn’t been open in a while which was why there was this wave of mana that came out.
Though when it calmed down, it didn’t seem that weak either.
It was weaker than what came out at first, but it was still a strong wave of mana that showed just how powerful the items stored inside were.
The Merman Empire really had a solid foundation.
But this wasn’t the reason that we were here.
The reason that we were here was because we were looking for traces of a history that had been swept under the rugs.
I feel empty once more now that AGDQ is over…
