Capítulo 751: Bet

Theron exhaled a breath and smiled. He seemed quite relaxed about the whole thing as he walked back to Ayame’s side, reaching his arm out toward her.

She gave him a glance but ultimately took his arm anyway. Normally, she wasn’t out and about like this. And even if she was, she certainly wouldn’t be wearing a dress like this one. The only reason she was was because of Theron.

Quite frankly, she would be lying if she said she wasn’t annoyed by the stares she had been receiving. But she thought that she would have to just endure it and kill them later when it was more convenient.

Who would have thought that Theron would do it for her, and so quickly at that?

Well, they weren’t dead. But they might as well have been.

There were certainly strong methods of healing available to the masses, and this was especially so for geniuses like these two. It was even more the case for those of decent rank in the Resistance Army.

However, Ayame could tell from here that there was no easy way to heal those eyes, not with what Theron had done to them. It would take at least a King Resonance Mana Herb forming the foundation of a King Resonance Pill or Elixir to heal those injuries.

And that was its own shock, honestly. She had no idea how Theron had hidden so much of his power from her. At this point, that was what she had to believe had happened, because it didn’t make sense for anyone to grow so strong in such a short time.

While Seriq and Vaelor would still have their Third Eyes to rely upon, any cultivator worth their salt knew that there was no true replacement for the eyes… at least not at this level.

Ayame was also smart enough to tell that Theron had left them alive for a bit of breathing room and to double as an extra insult. Contradictory goals achieved by the same methods.

Anyone who had spent any time in the cultivation world knew that the fierce reaction of both of their Clans would be near the same whether they were dead or alive, considering their current states.

However… that wasn’t the case for the Resistance Army.

The question was… what was Theron trying to do? Didn’t he say he wanted to join the Demon Corps? What game was he playing at?

“It seems I’ve overstayed my welcome a bit,” Theron said to Chen.

“Ah…” Chen chuckled. “I don’t even know what to say. You know that this isn’t going to end well, right? Their Clans aren’t from this galaxy, but their influence in the Resistance Army itself is quite strong. There’ll be plenty of people who want to get on their good side.”

“I think you mean the good side of their fathers and mothers.”

Chen was speechless for a moment, and then could only chuckle and shake his head.

“What is your name?” the young Chron Clan miss suddenly spoke. Her voice was surprisingly soft, not nearly as sharp or grating as someone might expect.

“Me? I’m Theron Galethunder.”

She frowned. “I’ve never heard of this Clan.”

Theron smiled. “Well, that’s because it’s just me.”

“I don’t believe you,” she said with a frown.

Theron didn’t respond to this, his smile remaining just the same.

“Are you going to join the Resistance Army?”

“Maybe. That would depend on if their offer is good enough or not.”

“Offer?” she blinked, and then her eyes opened wide. “Do you… even know what you’re saying?”

“Well, do you know what you’re saying?” Theron grinned. “You just watched a Quasi Cloud Mancer make fools of two Sixth Resonance Dome of Heaven experts. Which of us doesn’t know what we’re talking about?”

The young miss of the Chron Clan froze for a moment, not quite knowing how to answer this. It was, indeed, something that she couldn’t refute. But after a long while, she shook her head.

“This is just the level of this galaxy and similar ones. The Resistance Army is built to fight against the entirety of the Demon Corps. I’ve never met them, but I’m sure there are other Quasi Cloud Mancers that could do exactly what you just did.”

“Is that so?” Theron didn’t seem offended. “I believe you.”

The young miss blinked, very confused by Theron’s response.

“Then you understand why what you said is very foolhardy? It should be your dream to join the Resistance Army. Not everyone can, and those that must aren’t nearly as lucky as those that want to.”

Those were surprisingly endearing and clever words for a young woman who had seemed like a lovestruck fool just moments before. Even Chen seemed a bit taken aback before he smiled bitterly to himself. Which of the two of them was playing the other, exactly?

“I understand. But why should I join a bottom feeder when I could join the top?”

The young miss’ cherry lips parted for a moment before they pressed together into a thin line.

Theron knew why. The Chron Clan probably had quite a large piece of the pie in this sector’s Resistance Army. Maybe General Ameridia was even a Chron. Theron was basically saying he had no interest in joining their legion if there were better legions to join.

Any Chron would be offended by this.

“I don’t think you’ve ever fought a Space Mancer before,” she said after a very long while.

“No?” Theron laughed. Let alone fighting a Space Mancer, he had killed a Quasi Cloud Space Mancer when he was just a Silver Mancer. It hadn’t even been all that difficult, and that was long before his Third Eye had become this powerful.

“You seem confident. How about a bet?”

“Yeah? And what would that bet be?”

“If one of my brothers can defeat you, you have to join the Resistance Army.”

Theron raised an eyebrow and then burst into laughter. He laughed so hard the streets seemed to quake.
