Capítulo 749: Duo (1)

Let alone the Resistance Army duo, even Chen was taken aback. In truth, he hadn’t spent much time around Theron at all and only had a small understanding of his personality.

That said, one didn’t need to have a full grasp on a man’s personality to know that every single one of them would have a bottom line they didn’t allow to be crossed.

Chen himself admired Ayame, but it was quite clear that his gaze was nothing like the two Resistance Army members. That said, by the same metric, as powerful as Chen’s background was, the background of these two was more… sensitive.

Their families might not necessarily be more powerful than the Shonagh, but they were at least on the same level. And because they had already joined the army whereas Chen hadn’t, their overall status was higher. Depending on who their superiors in the Resistance Army were, it could be very troublesome to deal with them.

Unfortunately, that was a question Chen happened to have the answer to, and it wasn’t good.

Both Seriq and Vaelor were under the charge of the hot-tempered General Ameridia. It could be said that the entire corps was insane.

Chen wanted to join himself because that sort of hot blood was exactly what he liked most. However, his father wouldn’t let him until he reached the Dome of Heaven Realm, which was fair enough.

Joining the Resistance Army before then was as good as placing your head on a platter for the world to take turns ripping a chunk off. Only the most insane and desperate of people would do such a thing.

Of course, Seriq and Vaelor weren’t under the direct charge of General Ameridia. They were several layers removed, under lieutenants, who had sergeants under them, who likewise had captains and squad leaders under them.

But the veneer of General Ameridia was still there. And the fact they had medals to wear on their lapels at all said that, though Chen wasn’t exactly impressed by them, they were still not bottom-feeding soldiers of the Resistance Army either.

In fact, they were the very squadron leaders beneath captains in question.

Not only were they Sixth Resonance Dome of Heaven Mancers like Ayame was, but it was said that the combat prowess of those in the Resistance Army was at least a tier or two above normal citizens.

No matter how you sliced it, Chen found himself sweating bullets for Theron in a matter of a split moment. But he also didn’t really know what else to do.

He didn’t think Theron was wrong. Though he hadn’t been watching the eyes of the Resistance Army duo, it didn’t take a genius to imagine what had been happening. Not long ago, they were doing the very same thing to the Chron Clan young miss.

The difference was that they were, one, more reserved because the Chron Clan held a huge amount of weight, and two, Chen didn’t really care enough about her to overextend himself for her sake anyway.

Since they had been restrained enough in their gazes, he didn’t need to stick his neck out because she didn’t seem to notice either. They had been the kind of infrequent, sneaky glances only a man would recognize.

For a moment, the hustle and bustle of the city faded around them. It was very much still there, but to the six of them present in this small social circle, it might as well have vanished. In fact, even the Chron Clan young miss seemed to have felt that something was wrong, and she looked up at Theron, and then back toward Seriq and Vaelor.

“… What did you just say to me?”

Seriq was the larger of the two. Tall and lanky, his back arched as though he was a predator looming over everyone he came across. For someone like Theron, who was on the shorter side to begin with, he was practically a giant.

Vaelor was actually about Theron’s height despite being at least 10 or more years his elder. He had an incredibly faint scar running down one side of his jaw and cheek. If not for the faint shadow of a beard on his face, maybe it would have been impossible to see at all.

Unlike Seriq, though, he didn’t seem intent on speaking. He had already reached for the thin sword at his side.

BANG.

Theron’s spear appeared, its butt slamming to the ground. The stone cracked before Vaelor could even finish unsheathing his blade.

Vaelor’s pupils constricted. It was just as Chen had said—the battle experience of those in the Resistance Army couldn’t compare to normal civilians. As poorly as he assessed Theron, his very bones could feel a threat when he saw it.

But a threat was one thing. Whether that meant he would back away was another matter entirely.

He had faced off against Demon Corps elites before. Why would he fear a single little boy?

“Hey, hey… How about we…” Chen tried to say something to help smooth matters out in the end.

Shu.

Vaelor’s blade snaked forward, reaching Theron’s throat in a single instant of time.

Theron didn’t even move, the thin, snake-like blade passing right through him.

It looked as though the battle was over, but then Vaelor suddenly keeled over, hacking up a large amount of blood and spittle. The world spun around him, but his training kicked in.

He stomped a foot and shot backward, rolling on the ground and quickly bracing his blade in front of him. His eyes darted around looking for Theron as though he had lost his mind, veins of red popping along their whites.

But Theron himself was standing in the very same spot, wisps of Darkness swallowing up half his face and neck.

“It seems you want me to gouge them out myself. Then we’ll just have to do that, then.”

Vaelor’s pupils constricted, and Seriq seemed to realize the gravity of the situation in that instant, but Theron was already moving.
