Capítulo 683: Revenue

Theron washed the blood off of himself quite slowly, the power radiating toward him feeling unprecedented. He didn’t know why it was, but there was something about that moment that felt like it awakened something inside of him.

It couldn’t have just been killing. He had killed plenty, and he had killed plenty especially recently. It could be said that he had wiped out at least 90% of the Hall of Ice and Heart all on his own.

It was hard to say exactly what it was. But it was also possible that the only reason all of this was happening was because his cultivation had finally settled down.

Back in the Hall, his cultivation had only just broken through twice in quick succession, and then there was a third time after he entered the Cloud Realm with his Soul as well. It wouldn’t be a surprise if shifts in mental state didn’t have much of a change.

But now, his cultivation had properly settled.

If Heart Demons could destroy one’s cultivation, why couldn’t the opposite favor him?

But these thoughts… they seemed to be particularly sinister.

Could it be that maybe it was because he was a Heart Demon that things worked like this? Was that why he could fail his Tribulation and suddenly break through after a satisfying kill?

Theron stepped out of the shower and looked at himself in the mirror. He didn’t find confusion in his eyes, just calm and focus.

…

After clothing himself, Theron stepped out of his room for the first time since the girls had left naked and screaming. This would have surely kicked up quite the commotion in any other inn, but the halls were so perfectly isolated that if not for the fact a corpse was carefully dropped at the entrance of it all, no one would know that anything crazy had happened in the first place.

Theron walked right up to the receptionist with a gentle smile on his face.

“Hello, I’d like to report a bit of an incident. I hope that the King Inn can give me an explanation on this matter.”

The receptionist’s pupils constricted into pinholes, staring at Theron with feigned calm.

“Is everything not to your liking?” she asked with a smile.

Theron looked back toward the grand entrance of the inn. To their credit, whatever commotion there had been had long been cleared up.

“You all sure are quick,” Theron said with a chuckle. With a flick of his finger, Theron took out a pendant. “I’m sure you know what this is.”

The receptionist’s heart skipped a beat, but she still asked:

“I’m sorry, sir. I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about.”

“Mm, maybe I shouldn’t blame you. You see, this is an interesting device because it records things, though it also has the secondary function of destroying formations. If I had to guess, this looks like the namesake device of quite a reputable assassins’ organization—probably a pendant given upon moving up their ranks. It acts not only as a treasure to help them seamlessly break into places, but also doubles as proof of delivery so they don’t have to do nasty things like carrying decapitated heads around.”

The receptionist slowly began to understand that Theron really did have all these matters in hand.

“What—”

“But you see, there’s a little bit of a problem,” Theron continued as though he didn’t hear the receptionist’s soft tone enter negotiation mode. “This sort of pendant is very good at dispelling common formations, but it couldn’t be that the mighty King Inn is using such mass-produced trash, right?”

The receptionist was beginning to believe that the gentle smile she was seeing right now was little more than the devil’s amusement. It was making her skin grow completely cold.

“So really, there are only two explanations why a little pendant like this one could break into my room. It’s either the King Inn isn’t very good at protecting its guests and likes to cut corners, or the King Inn likes to help outsiders kill their guests. Oh my, I guess there’s actually quite the chance that both could be true, no?”

Finally, the eyes of the receptionist became as sharp as could be—though it was extremely controlled and didn’t leak out of the region the both of them stood within.

Unsurprisingly, she too was a Dome of Heaven expert, but she was no normal one. She was within the middle tiers, having crossed above the Third Resonance into the Fourth. She was orders of magnitude more powerful than Wi.

Yet Theron was unmoved. His body was like an abyss, her pressure falling into sinking waves.

He blinked almost innocently, the gentleness of his expression capable of soothing any erratic heart.

“Oh. Could it be the King Inn wants me to take this elsewhere?”

“Do—”

“Let me guess. You want to ask me if I believe I’ll be able to walk out of here safely, right? Do I look like I’m afraid?”

The receptionist froze and she looked up. There weren’t many eyes looking in their direction, but there were certainly more than there should have been. Many powerhouses frequented their establishment, and their sensitivity to danger was high.

The corpse had also been dealt with extremely quickly, but what did it matter when so many were here out in the open? This news would undoubtedly spread wildly. And if Theron capitalized on this, just what sort of commotion would he be able to cause?

If Theron was clever enough, he could deal a huge blow to their profits without much effort at all. The Merchant King had plenty of competitors that might want to take advantage.

But now, the Merchant King wasn’t here to quell things, and Theron didn’t look like he was planning on being patient.

“What do you want?” she asked coldly.

“Nothing much. Just all the revenue the King Inn has made in the last year. I’m not a very greedy man.”

The receptionist’s pupils constricted into pinholes.

All of the revenue? Not profits?

Even the Merchant King wouldn’t be walking around with that amount of wealth daily.
