Capítulo 682: Satisfying

Wi walked down the hallways of the inn. From the outside, the form of everything was already grand and imposing, but somehow it felt even larger from within.

There was something particularly eerie about the silence of it all. Every room was so perfectly insulated that they were like their own world, and that left the hallway with nothing but the sound of Wi’s steps…

If his steps had made any noise at all, that is.

As the assassin that he was, this was the bare minimum level of control that Wi had learned long ago as a Bronze Mancer. Now that he was a Dome of Heaven expert, it was like he glided on clouds as he moved.

This wasn’t because he was truly flying. The fluctuations of Mana that would be caused by something like this would leave him more exposed than if he just walked normally to any expert that he would actually have to hide his presence from. Though Theron certainly wasn’t one such person, Wi had no intention of shirking on his usual habits.

Part of his pride as an assassin had been smeared just now. The fact he had to ask for permission to kill filled him with disgust.

He had done it not out of fear of the Merchant King, but instead because his employer had asked it of him. His employer had no desire to get into a war with the Merchant King, so this was the only way that things could go.

If he was going to vent this frustration in his heart… Theron was going to have to be that target.

Wi’s steps came to a stop right outside of Theron’s door. There was no sound at all, but it was already exactly as he expected. With the protections of the inn, he couldn’t use his Third Eye to examine the situation from here. However, he had been watching earlier from a very specific vantage point.

Wi turned and continued to move, pulling out a jade and entering his own room. He slipped toward the balcony of a room directly adjacent to Theron’s own and stepped outside.

His body flickered and he appeared on the ledge. With another leap, he was already on Theron’s.

The balconies also had protections in place on them. However, unlike the protections in the room, they had to be actively set by the room’s user.

This was a flaw in their system, but it was also by design. This wasn’t so that the likes of Wi could assassinate people as they pleased, but instead because balconies were meant to be used for fresh air and enjoying the spring breeze of nature. If there were formation protections on it, it would feel exactly like every other part of the room and thus defeat the purpose of its existence.

The real tricky part was entering from the balcony. While the balcony itself wasn’t protected, that didn’t mean the door leading from it into the room wouldn’t be.

This was no issue for Wi either.

A pendant swinging from his waist was pulled to his palm with a hover of his hand. He poured his Mana into it, so controlled and stealthily that not an ounce leaked.

Chi.

The formation protecting the doors broke and Wi slid within, entering the large wet room of Theron’s suite.

A curved tub that could have fit three people was directly across from him, a shower that could have fit six framed in glass standing directly behind it. The air was moist with humidity as though someone had used it not long ago, and hanging on its currents were moans from the room.

Wi’s expression didn’t change as he almost glided forward, just as silent as always. His figure passed by a mirror, but not the slightest hint of a reflection could be seen. It was as though he was truly invisible.

His steps paused, peeking through the door of the wet room. He could see figures practically flying around on a large bed that was probably the width of two king mattresses slammed together.

He only looked for a moment, being certain that his target was just as engrossed as he had been before.

His body flickered and in an instant, he was already at Theron’s throat, the latter’s back to him.

A woman was draped on Theron’s back, seemingly trying to help his motion, but Wi didn’t care in the slightest. The easiest kill would be right through both of their hearts.

What he didn’t know was that Theron was thinking the same thing.

Wi froze with his dagger still aimed high. Blood spurted and screams filled the room.

The lustful intoxication in Theron’s eyes faded as though it had never been there at all, the Nightingale Ancestor Spear running through the chest of the woman who had only just been draped over his back, and then right through Wi’s chest directly after it.

The weapon was so sharp Wi didn’t even feel the pain. He didn’t feel Theron’s attack, nor sense his killing intent, he hadn’t even felt Theron move in the first place.

Even right up until the moment of his death, he never thought that he would be the one targeted for assassination… the most beautiful assassination that he had ever witnessed with his own two eyes.

Wi’s body shuddered and then he keeled over and collapsed, blood soaking the bed through as the screams of the two remaining women led them out to the hallway. They didn’t even bother to grab anything to cover themselves, whatever lust they had been feeling being just as quickly wiped away as well.

Theron stood over the body, his expression the color of indifference. He had a thought in that moment he never thought he would have in his lifetime.

What a satisfying kill.

Something churned within him and he seamlessly broke into the Fourth Gold Resonance.

**

Plop.

The sound of splattering blood and flesh echoed through the street. That day, a great commotion occurred at the Merchant King’s Inn.

The corpse of a Dome of Heaven expert appeared right at its entrance.
