Capítulo 677: The Truth

Theron didn’t have an answer to this question; he couldn’t even begin to have one. All he knew was that it likely had to do with his origins and the words that Goddess Sacharro had spoken back then.

But was he really a Heart Demon? He had never felt any different from a human. What about him was so different in the first place?

His gaze flickered, and he suddenly thought about Macie.

She seemed to have been suffering greatly after the death of Sadie, so much so that she cared much more about it than the death of her apparent father.

There was something she had been radiating the entire time that kept catching Theron’s attention, but he didn’t knowwhat it was.

However, now that he thought about it, the situation that Macie was in was exactly the sort that one might grow a Heart Demon in. Could it be related?

There had to be a reason that Goddess Sacharro was so interested in this region of the universe. With her talent and the abilities of her main body, she could have plopped her incarnation anywhere. Yet, she chose this place by coincidence.

If her words were to be believed… was it really a coincidence?

Macie’s Heart Demon might have triggered the evolution of her bloodline. Theron was a Heart Demon born in Sadie. And Goddess Sacharro had just so happened to pick this place?

“… Last question,” Theron said, slowly standing. “What do you know about Heart Demons? What do they mean in cultivation? How do they affect bloodlines?”

“Heart Demons?”

By the Ancestor Bird’s reply, Theron already knew that it wouldn’t have a direct answer. It might very well know a lot about Heart Demons, but it didn’t seem to know of a link between it and its bloodline.

While Theron was being vague, if there was some connection, there would certainly be a sign.

It had to be remembered that the original function of the Dagger Call Platform was as a lie detector. Theron wasn’t openly using this function so that the Nightingale Ancestor Bird would feel more relaxed to respond, but Theron was nonetheless very in tune with the fluctuations in its soul.

He would be able to tell if it was putting on an act.

“Heart Demons are ethereal things. It’s hard to say exactly what they are. Some cultivators believe that everyone has them regardless of cultivation level, while only those that grow beyond a certain level actually begin to affect cultivation. Others believe that the appearance of a Heart Demon always means bad things.

“About the only thing that everyone agrees on is the fact that Heart Demons, once manifested, are certainly a bad thing. They impede cultivation, corrupt the soul, and lead to cultivation deviation. If someone has a Heart Demon and doesn’t manage to get rid of it, but also insists on continuing to cultivate, their death isn’t very far away.

“As for bloodlines… I don’t think there’s any direct effect, but it’s hard to say. It’s just simply too hard to do research on something like this because of exactly what I’ve just said. It’s far too dangerous for someone with a Heart Demon to continue cultivating.”

Theron nodded slowly and then began to slowly leave the hidden space.

“Wait.”

Theron paused, looking back toward the black box.

The Nightingale Ancestor Bird cleared its throat. “I think there may be room to amend our deal.”

“Hm?” Theron raised an eyebrow.

“I can’t help but notice this… stone you have here.”

Theron’s eyes slowly turned toward the location of his Ebonestone Mind. It was little more than a vague cave opening suspended in space, but the aura it radiated was distinct. Theron had already expected that the Nightingale Ancestor Bird would be inspecting his treasures, but he didn’t expect it to say something like this.

“What about it?”

“This stone… I believe it would be very useful to me.”

Theron’s gaze flickered. “You mean that it could help extend your existence?”

The Nightingale Ancestor Bird only had enough energy to bestow its full blessing once more. That was why it had been so reluctant to help Theron keep his Water Resonance.

After questioning it for so long, Theron realized it had been lying to him before. It wasn’t that there was a difference between him keeping his Water Resonance or not, it was just that it wanted Theron’s loyalties to forever remain with the Nightingale Clan.

It was also extremely intrigued by the fact he could seemingly control both hot and cold as well. It would be a fool if it couldn’t see the parallels between Theron and its bloodline.

“Yes,” the Nightingale Ancestor Bird bristled. “This would be a good thing for you as well. Not only would I become a more powerful weapon, but the less desperate I am, the less you have to watch your back. There would be much fewer reasons for me to backstab you.”

Theron nodded. The reasoning was sound.

“And how would you make use of this stone? I do not have any refinement skills.”

The Nightingale Ancestor Bird fell into silence. It would definitely take someone with the skill of a Dome of Heaven Craftsman to help it. Although it could refine the stone itself, it would be incredibly wasteful to do so. It would need 100x the amount.

It couldn’t help but wonder if it should lie to Theron. It didn’t trust a craftsman to help it in the first place.

Feeling the hints of subterfuge and smoke and mirrors in the Ancestor Bird’s aura, Theron raised an eyebrow.

“The truth.”

The aura of the Ancestor Bird froze. But it eventually told the truth.

“Is that so?” Theron’s expression didn’t change, but a 100x difference didn’t mean a single thing to him.

This wasn’t a normal mine; it was an endless supply of Ebonestone. Given enough time, it would replenish itself, never mind the fact Theron didn’t need it for anything else.

However… Should he be helping the Nightingale Ancestor Bird like this?

“You say that you can refine it yourself. Do you think you could do that for another weapon too?”
