Rivers of the Night - Chapter 557
Chapter 557: Technique Tower (2)
Knowing all of this, Theron wasn’t cocky. There was certainly some overlap between the Laws he knew and the ones he could apply. After all, the Laws weren’t tied to a single element. There was a reason their names were so tied to universal constructs.
However… the way Theron had comprehended them was tied to a single element. If he wanted to apply the 18 Laws he had already comprehended to Dark Mana, it would take some meditation.
For example, he had learned the Law of Vibration in two completely different ways—once for his cooling path and the other for his heating path. Thus, he counted it as two separate Laws.
If Laws could be comprehended in different ways to be applied differently for the same element, it would be even more complicated to do so for a different element altogether.
As such, Theron wasn’t so bold as to believe that he could just pick up a Dark Mancy Runebound Resonance Spell right here and learn it in the blink of an eye.
Even so… Theron was thinking of Spells and their complexity. If these Sects—at least these lower-level ones—were avoiding the use of Spells because of their difficulty in deploying, maybe it was the case that it wasn’t all that difficult to use at least these ones.
Time would tell.
“The fifth and sixth floors are where things change. The fifth floor has Lower Gold Resonance techniques, the sixth has Middle, the seventh has Upper, and the eighth has Peak. The ninth floor is just a single floor, separated into many layers with heavy pressure on them. This floor has all of the Gold Runebound Resonance techniques.”
Theron nodded. “And there are no Cloud Resonance techniques here?”
“There are. But it requires walking beyond the last layer of pressure on the ninth floor and entering the tenth. Only the Elder Council can do that. It’s been a while since the last disciple did it. According to what I know, the last disciple was actually Patriarch Nightingale himself.”
Theron’s gaze flickered.
So Patriarch Nightingale was once a disciple? He didn’t know that.
He figured by the age of the man and his name that he had been the one to establish the Sect in the first place. That was very… curious.
If Patriarch Nightingale was the founder, that was more than ample reason for others to use to dismiss his age. The Sect members themselves, at least, wouldn’t ask too many questions.
But if Patriarch Nightingale had just once been a normal disciple and then showed such slow signs of aging, people would definitely be more likely to question him.
Did he just suppress them by the fact his cultivation was so much more superior to theirs?
As far as Theron could tell, Matriarch Macie was no Ascended Cloud Realm expert. At best, she was a Third Resonance Touching Cloud Realm expert, leaving a large divide between herself and what was logically just a single step up—but in practice a vast chasm.
It made sense that Patriarch Nightingale would just be too powerful to question. But… he certainly wasn’t always an Ascended Cloud Realm expert…
Theron still had many questions left unanswered.
He still didn’t know the real reason for the Dark River. He had already concluded that the unnamed cultivator wasn’t nearly powerful enough to change the environment to that extent. It would take at least a Dome of Heaven Mancer.
He still didn’t know what Patriarch Nightingale’s purpose was for controlling so many talents like pawns. What was his end goal? What was he aiming for?
And now… he was curious about Patriarch Nightingale’s true origins.
He couldn’t help but wonder if all of these things were connected in some way.
“Okay. If you want to learn about Dark Mana, then you have to start with the first floor and master the things here. Come.”
Lyra pulled on Theron with the loop she had around his arm, dragging him forward and down the rows of techniques until she stopped in a certain location.
To the Nightingale Sect’s credit, at least on this first floor of Manaborn Resonance techniques, there were thousands upon thousands of techniques here.
Seeing the sheer number, Theron wasn’t too bothered by Lyra guiding him a bit. If he went on his own, he would waste too much time going through them all one by one.
Of course, there was also the chance she didn’t know what she was talking about, but Theron doubted it. Lyra might be weaker than himself, but she was a genius of Dark Mana in her own right, and she was more than qualified to guide a Silver Mancer newbie in how to progress to her level.
If it was about going beyond her, then she might have some trouble. But even then, she would certainly have some tidbits she picked up from her master and other elders. She had definitely been coddled with great information thanks to her talent.
As for Theron, because of his clash with the Matriarch, he highly doubted he would be getting such high-level guidance anytime soon. But he didn’t mind it.
He had actually taken the opportunity to force that clash when he had the chance. Of course, he still planned on following through with his word, but it was also important that powerful cultivators spent the least amount of time around him as possible.
All Theron had to live for was power and cultivation. His family was gone, and his revenge for them was such a lofty goal that he was well aware that he just might never make it…
All he had left was his own pride and his striving for the next level of cultivation…
He wouldn’t allow the likes of a small Matriarch from an insignificant little Sect to disrespect him and get away with it.
Lyra felt a suppressive aura settle down around her shoulders as Theron’s hair gently picked up in the wind. She looked back toward him, her eyes sharp, but Theron had already returned to normal, giving her a gentle smile.
