Chapter 464: The Bloody Storm

Third Person’s POV

Ethan did not flinch, but his heart started beating like a group of galloping horses as he watched the old demon carve through them like paper.

Young lord Jack Wilds and his remaining followers were torn apart in a flash of blood and bone, turning into gore as their lives were snuffed out before they could even scream properly.

Even though they had been his enemies and this was their end result anyway, witnessing such slaughter and a grisly end still made Ethan’s spine prickle with unease.

The old demon’s rampaging mind cleared slightly after the massacre, and his glowing, death-tinted eyes sharpened with sudden realisation as he realised that he had crossed a line.

By killing academy students, which would eventually be traced back to him, he had violated the iron laws of the Sanctum itself.

There would be no forgiveness for him now, and he would have to flee, no matter the cost.

Slowly, the old demon turned toward Ethan’s vague, shadow-shrouded figure and saw his thin frame outlined by the roiling darkness around them.

His voice was flat, cold, and completely stripped of mockery as he said a comical sentence that was truly horrid in its content.

“I will strip your skin and turn it into a jacket, young friend.”

Strangely, the words still carried a twisted sense of courtesy, as though he were making a polite promise rather than a threat.

There was no rage in his tone but only a quiet, horrifying certainty that made the hair on Ethan’s scalp prickle.

And when he met those hellish yellow eyes, bulging and gleaming with unnatural rage and an intent of destruction, Ethan felt true fear for the first time since coming to this world.

Without replying, he tried to vanish again by reaching out instinctively for the dark waves that flowed between the shadow and material realms, but this time he was too slow, and his element of surprise didn’t work.

The skeletal demon disappeared from his place and reappeared beside him in a blur, whipping his leg out in a savage arc toward Ethan’s thigh.

Seeing this attack, Ethan’s eyes widened in alarm.

He instantly understood that if he attempted to flee using that strange realm-jumping movement again, his legs would be severed and erased by the sharp spikes on the old demon’s leg.

He knew that his bodily defense was nowhere near enough to resist this full powered version of the old demon.

Especially if he considered those bony growths all over his body, as he seemed to have specifically cultivated and strengthened his bones to become that horrifying with his strange evil art.

Subsequently, they would rot into blackened sludge due to the foul, deathly, gray colored energy it exuded, just like the horrifying remains of young lord Jack and his followers, which were already melting into a foul, bubbling sludge of black goo behind him.

Gritting his teeth, Ethan abandoned escape and chose to meet the strike head-on.

Like a batter swinging for his life, he slashed diagonally with his Black Dragon Saber, gripping it with both hands towards the incoming sickle-like leg of the old demon.

The resulting impact was devastating, and his entire body shook as though it had been struck by lightning, his bones and muscles vibrating violently from the sheer force.

He staggered but reacted quickly by shifting his weight and driving the shock down into the ground.

As a result, the stone floor cracked beneath his foot and formed a small crater where he had braced himself.

Then, to his shock, his saber splintered.

The blade shattered into two big jagged pieces while scattering fragments of black metal through the air.

But Ethan did not panic.

In a single fluid motion, he caught the broken half with his free hand and raised both pieces into a crude cross-shaped guard just in time to block the old demon’s barbed arm as it stabbed toward his torso.

A metallic screech rang out as the two forces collided.

Using his icy mana, Ethan made the soles of his boots slick and slid backward across the ground, narrowly avoiding the stab’s full power that would have surely torn through his abdomen and would have skewered him while destroying what remained of his weapon at the same time.

Even so, the collision hurled him backward like a launched projectile, sending him flying deep into the dark haze.

He barely managed to slow himself before a horrifying sight made his heart seize.

The ground where he was about to land suddenly erupted with sharp gray spikes, thrusting upward like the jaws of some buried beast.

Seeing them, he instantly knew that if he fell on them, he would be skewered like meat on a rack.

Before he could change direction, the old bony demon leapt into the air and, clasping his hands together in front of his body.

With terrifying speed and crushing momentum, he descended like a falling spear, aiming straight for Ethan, giving him no chance to live.

Seeing this, a wave of panic surged through him as the force of his own backward flight was already too strong, and even his wings could not change his trajectory in time.

For the first time in this battle, Ethan truly felt cornered.

And just as he prepared to use his final resort, his last and most desperate trump card, with clenched teeth and his heart pounding wildly in his chest, a noble and unmistakably womanly voice boomed through the air.

“That’s enough!”

The moment her voice rang out, a furious flurry of bloody winds exploded across the square.

It all happened in an instant, as there was only an instant left to save Ethan.

Scarlet gales wrapped around Ethan and surged outward, swallowing the entire battlefield.

The air grew thick and heavy and became saturated with a powerful intent that carried the unmistakable metallic stench of blood and rust.

The force of the winds was overwhelming.

Ethan was lifted and hurled away like a broken kite, his battered body spinning helplessly as he vanished into the raging crimson vortex that blotted out the sky and swallowed everything in sight.
