Capítulo 632: Chapter 632. A Defensive Battle

As soon as the field barrier collapsed, the human puppets along the front line got to their feet. They immediately charged toward the puppet army. The puppet army also charged forward after destroying the barrier. Two forces with no fear collided into each other.

What followed was an onslaught. The human puppets were all weak cultivators. They couldn’t bear the brunt of the puppet army’s assault.

The puppet army’s front line was dominated by six-armed battle puppets. Although these puppets had only high-tier engraved grade power, their six arms allowed them to fight like three people. Their weapons cut, pierced, lashed, and crushed the human puppets in their way with mechanized efficiency.

Amon knew these human puppets were ineffective against an enemy without fear or morality, like this puppet army. That’s why he told Zhong Yuan to install the suicide backpacks. The bombs inside these backpacks were set to automatic. Once their hosts died, they were activated.

Before long, a string of explosions occurred along the front line. The explosion was strong enough to blast apart the battle puppets’ hard bodies.

Thanks to the field barrier and the human puppets, the puppet army’s charging momentum was slowed to a crawl. Those that reached the First Demon Army didn’t have enough charging power to knock the soldiers out of formation.

Furthermore, a wall of giant shields blocked further advance. These were the same shields used by the First Demon Army when they defended Tusha Valley. After producing enough rifles, Amon ordered Surly Gate Town’s factory to shift production to making these shields. As a result, they had enough shields to cover the whole line in their formation.

Riflemen shot through the slits available in the shields, while Yuanxu cannons continued to fire nonstop. The Royal Puppet Army continued to be bombarded with explosions, including from the remaining human puppets that had just fallen.

While the ground forces fought with a defensive tactic, the battle in the air relied on brute force.

With the barrier gone, puppets with flight units attacked from above. Riflemen shot at the flying puppets, but bullets were not very effective. Fortunately, the First Demon Army had many martial realm soldiers. Enhanced by Faux Strength Pills, these soldiers tore through any flying battle puppets that dared come.

Amon was among the soldiers fighting in the air. His ceremonial dagger flashed in a wide radius with the help of the Xian Cloth. Any battle puppets that approached were diced into scraps.

While they destroyed battle puppets en masse, the Royal Puppet Army seemed endless. Their massive number, combined with their fearless bearing, the puppets continued to advance no matter how many of their brethren had fallen.

As the battle continued, one of the giant puppets finally arrived. The first was one shaped like a giant hawk. It had a jet engine at its back that gave it a sudden speed boost. This caught Echos’ soldiers in surprise. Its sudden dash allowed it to bypass many Martial Realm defenders and arrive inside the formation.

Once inside, it released numerous lightning bolts that struck everyone in the vicinity. Those who survived the lightning bolts were paralyzed. The hawk puppet then proceeded to assault its paralyzed victims using its wings, which were actually an assemblage of sharp blades. These wings easily sliced through the paralyzed soldiers.

While it reaped lives among Echos’ Martial Realm soldiers, threads covered in dark green light surrounded it. It couldn’t flee because the threads multiplied and formed a net. This net wrapped around its body and tightened. Its metallic skin started to crack under pressure.

The hawk puppet struggled to free itself, but with no success. Finally, the shining threads sliced through its body and turned it into minced scraps.

“Do not falter! Reform the formation!” Yong Baili exclaimed. He was the owner of the threads that destroyed the hawk puppets. He wasn’t celebrating, though, because he saw several similar hawk puppets breach through their defensive line at multiple spots.

The giant hawk puppets were not the only ones causing trouble. The giant spider puppets were similarly not affected by the Echos’ shield formation. Their long legs let it walk past the defensive line from above. As they walked, they poured yellow liquid from their round metal bodies. This liquid was highly acidic. It burned the poor soldiers who happened to be under the spider puppets.

The giant wolf puppets also easily leaped through the defensive line. They landed among the riflemen and quickly made short work of these soldiers. While their speed and sharp claws were deadly enough, they could also breathe fire. The flame thrower equipped in their mouths discharged high-intensity flames that roasted many Echos’ soldiers.

The giant bear puppets didn’t have the agility of the wolf puppets. They couldn’t leap through the shield wall. They, however, possessed incredible strength. When they struck the shield wall, the soldiers behind felt as if they were hit by a battering ram. Without a powerful cultivator to help the soldiers hold the shield, the bear puppets could break through the shield wall in fewer than five strikes.

The last giant puppet was the centipede. Unlike the others, there was only one such battle puppet. Despite its size, this centipede puppet could cruise through the air, allowing it to also ignore the shield wall on the ground.

When Echos’ Martial Realm soldiers tried to gang up against it, it suddenly split apart.

The centipede puppet’s body consisted of multiple segments, with each segment equipped with two pairs of bladed legs. These segments detached and acted as individual units. Each of them was equipped with a flight unit. That’s how the centipede puppet was able to fly despite its enormous size.

After splitting, these segments flew in all directions. They spun while flying, turning their bladed legs into chopper blades. Those struck by these revolving blades were cut to pieces.

“Let me at it…!”

Xu Bao rushed over with a thrusting spear. His thrust generated a drilling energy projectile aimed at one of the spinning segments. The segment was as if sensing his attack. It made a U-turn, dodging the drilling projectile. The segment then recombined with the other segments, reforming the giant centipede.

“It’s good that you return to a single entity. Save me the time from chasing your parts!” Xu Bao exclaimed. He shot at the centipede with a powerful thrust.

However, before his spear hit the centipede’s metallic body, it was stopped by an invisible barrier. Words of power glowed along the centipede’s body. The combined words of power along the segments produced a strong repulsive barrier.

“What the…!” Xu Bao’s failure to pierce the centipede puppet took him aback.

The centipede didn’t fight Xu Bao. It instead let its heavy body drop to the ground, crushing many ground soldiers. The centipede’s many legs stabbed at lightning speed. These stabbings moved its body around the battlefield and attacked the surrounding soldiers at the same time.

“Bastard! Don’t ignore me!” Xu Bao cursed. He flew down to chase the centipede.

The assaults from the giant puppets tore several gaps along the First Demon Army’s defensive line. The normal battle puppets leaked in from these gaps. They proceeded to overwhelm the soldiers behind the shields.

Fortunately, the First Demon Army had prepared a countermeasure. They released the elemental mines. The factory in Surly Gate Town had never stopped producing these explosive mines. Considering these mines were that factory’s original product, the amassed number was considerable. Leaving only a small quantity to defend the two occupied settlements, Amon brought the remaining elemental mines for this battle.

The elemental mines flew by themselves and targeted the enemy puppets. The elemental mines blew up the battle puppets that broke through the defensive line, while the Yuanxu Cannons blew up the battle puppets that were still held by the defensive line. These unceasing explosions destroyed the battle puppets in droves. Even so, the battle puppets that assailed the First Demon Army appeared unending.

“They should move soon. Xingzi, follow me! Protect Zhong Yuan!” Amon exclaimed.

He was riding the Great Sun Hawk. As the two forces fought fiercely, he flew high into the sky. He made it seem like he was battling the bird-shaped puppets, but he continued to rise even when there were only a few of those puppets in his altitude.

When he reached a height where no enemy puppets were in his path, he had the Great Sun Hawk dash toward the capital. Gao Xingzi and Zhong Yuan followed closely from behind atop the Yao Bird.

When they were halfway, the enemy finally took notice. A large group of the bird puppets flew toward them. They failed to reach them because a giant sword cleaved through them at high speed. This giant sword changed direction a few times, cutting all the bird puppets heading toward Amon. This caused the remaining bird puppets to divert their attention from Amon to the giant sword.

Amon looked at the bird puppets swarming the giant sword. He knew the sword was Xin Wuming. He didn’t ask Xin Wuming to cover him. The man did it of his own volition.

Amon hoped Xin Wuming could escape his current predicament. The man was a good subordinate. It would be a pity to lose him.
