Capítulo 631: Chapter 631. The Royal Puppet Army

Two hours had passed since the First Demon Army showed up near the capital. There was no movement from the capital except for a garrison of troops leaving the city. These troops didn’t head for the First Demon Army, which was positioned in the Southeastern direction. Instead, they moved West before stopping and standing at a distance away.

“Should I lead a legion and wipe out those troops?” Xin Wuming asked.

“No, stay in formation,” Amon ordered. “They are either meant to distract us or are a detachment that aims to look for our weak spot during the upcoming battle. They are not our true opponent. Our clash will be with the Royal Puppet Army. Station some battle puppets equipped with Faxien Radars at our rear and flanks. Have captains with space rings containing the elemental mines to accompany these puppets. That should be enough to counter those enemy troops if they try anything.”

“Roger that,” Xin Wuming said before relaying the order to his subordinates.

Another hour passed. The walls at the perimeter of Dabao City started to glow. Soon, a gigantic dome barrier encompassing the whole capital was erected. Its scale drew wonder from everyone who witnessed it.

The dome was so vast that it should have been impossible to erect under normal circumstances. This dome was possible because the walls were not the only ones generating the barrier. It was also thanks to the many barrier rods placed atop the roofs of Khode’s skyscraper-like buildings.

These skyscrapers were designed into the city’s defense. The skyscrapers at the outer edge were lower. They became taller as they neared the center. The Council Pylon, the tallest among all, was right at the center. Their arrangement formed a dome-shaped skyline that supported the barrier.

“Impressive,” Amon gave his praise. He turned to his army and yelled, “Get ready! They will act soon! Zhong Yuan, Xingzi, stay close to me! Remember what we have discussed!”

Not long after the barrier was erected, movements were seen from inside the capital. A sea of battle puppets walked out of the capital’s streets. Many flew through the gaps between the skyscrapers. Their number made everyone wonder if they were dreaming.

As these battle puppets went through the barrier, the ground outside the city erupted.

Everyone was surprised by these eruptions. They wondered if the First Demon Army had somehow planted explosive talismans all around the capital. Even Amon’s soldiers turned to him when the explosions happened.

“Not us,” Amon said. “The explosions happened before the battle puppets arrived. Look. They were part of the enemy’s army.”

Everyone returned their attention to the capital. Out of the dust clouds caused by the explosions, metal tentacles shot out. These tentacles pierced into the ground. As they did, they straightened, and everyone could see that these tentacles supported a round metallic body. Red lights resembling insect eyes appeared from those metal bodies.

“A battle puppet in the shape of giant spiders…?” Xin Wuming uttered after seeing the metal creature crawling out of the dust clouds.

“They must be special battle puppets meant for the capital’s defense,” Amon conjectured. “Considering their sizes, their energy consumption must be enormous. They were kept inert outside and only activated when a large force threatened the capital, like now.”

The special battle puppets were not only the ones with the shape of giant spiders. There were more with weird forms. The largest was one that looked like a giant centipede. Its many legs were sharp, long blades that could easily slice through metal. Several others were shaped like giant wolves and bears. These battle puppets moved using four metallic limbs. Some were shaped like birds, but to Amon, they looked more like the fighter jets from his previous life, though these jets didn’t fly as fast.

Even a portion of the normal battle puppets weren’t exactly normal. The frontmost line was dominated by battle puppets that possessed six arms. Each of these arms held different weapons. These weapons were a sword, spear, axe, mace, scythe, and whip.

There were even half-horse, half-human battle puppets with crossbows replacing one of their arms. These battle puppets displayed similar mobility to real horses. Seeing these horse-human puppets, Amon wondered if this world also had centaurs as spirit beasts somewhere.

“I heard that the Supreme Councilor built most of the Royal Puppet Army by himself. His talent is indeed remarkable,” Amon praised.

Even Zhong Yuan agreed. “Even though he is an asshole, I admit his expertise is way above mine.”

“Such a pity. Do you truly want him dead for your vengeance?” Amon asked. “Will you agree to life imprisonment? I can use somebody like him.”

“… I think we should defeat his Royal Puppet Army first before we discuss that,” Zhong Yuan said. He found it difficult to believe that Amon remained calm after seeing the mechanical army heading toward them. Amon was still confident that they would win. He didn’t know if he should feel reassured by Amon’s confidence or worried in case Amon underestimated the Royal Puppet Army.

The Royal Puppet Army seemed to outnumber the First Demon Army at least three times. There were probably two hundred thousand battle puppets in the army. No one could be sure due to the scale. Everyone just stared in trepidation as the mechanical army came closer with each second.

Amon levitated into the air so everyone could see him. His voice reverberated through the air, “Remember! Although we are attacking the capital, this is a defensive battle. Maintain your position. Hunker down, and do not falter. Guard your comrades next to you and survive for as long as possible! Believe me. We will be victorious before this day ends! Today, the First Demon Army will be remembered as the army that defeats Khode’s proud Royal Puppet Army!!”

The soldiers uttered a passionate war cry at Amon’s speech. The fear that grew in their heart was washed away after hearing the man who had brought them multiple victories. They believed today’s battle would be no different.

It was the centaur puppets that arrived first, thanks to their mobility. They immediately attacked using the crossbows in their arms.

Thousands of bolts shot toward the First Demon Army, but none reached its target. Before the bolts arrived, a barrier appeared in front of the First Demon Army.

This barrier was formed by barrier rods. These barrier rods were taken from the spares from Surly Gate Town and Steam Water City. Under Zhong Yuan’s instructions, these barrier rods were set up around them while they waited for the enemy to appear.

All the human puppets on the front line lay flat on the ground, exposing rows of riflemen behind them. These riflemen had their rifles aimed at the front. Way behind the line were the twenty-four Yuanxu Cannons and three Greater Yuanxu Cannons. These cannons were also ready to fire.

“Hold…,” Amon instructed.

The enemies that were in range were only the centaur puppets. These centaur puppets continued to fire their crossbows without success. When the slower battle puppets arrived and were almost upon the barrier, Amon gave the signal.

“Fireee…!!!”

A deafening salvo of shots rang out through the battlefield. Bullets and elemental balls flew toward the incoming puppet army. Elemental explosions swept across the battle puppets, while sharp bullets battered their metallic bodies.

“Fire at will…!” Amon bellowed.

The shots were repeated as quickly as possible, causing more explosions. The puppet army wasn’t troubled by this assault. They didn’t feel anything. They continued marching onward, stepping over those too damaged to move.

Before long, they crashed into the barrier. The orbs atop the barrier rods flashed brightly.

As the barrier trembled from the blows caused by countless battle puppets, Zhong Yuan turned to Amon. “You do know the power of this field barrier cannot be compared to a proper barrier used in a town’s defense, don’t you?”

“I know. I only need it to stop the enemy’s momentum,” Amon said. He turned to his army and yelled, “Everyone at the Martial Realm, consume the Faux Strength Pills.”

His soldiers followed his command. Soon, those Martial Realm soldiers exhibited bulging blue veins all over their bodies. The power of their aura rose.

The Faux Strength Pills were imitation pills Ah Bin created after studying the Strength Pills given by Amon. He managed to copy the pill’s ability by using substitute ingredients delivered from Echos. After months of work, he managed to produce enough pills for at least the Martial Realm soldiers in the First Demon Army. To spend those months of hard work on a single battle was a pity, but Amon considered this battle important enough to warrant such expenditure.

The regiment leaders, of course, consumed the real Strength Pills Amon looted from Sima Zhuang. These real pills provided a stronger boost to their power. Amon himself consumed one. The effect of these pills lasted for three hours. He believed three hours should buy them enough time for his plan to deliver its impact.

Amon also used the body-strengthening meridian points technique and activated the Great Virulent Serpent. His power skyrocketed a great deal.

Not long after, the barrier that protected them collapsed under the severe pressure caused by the Royal Puppet Army’s combined assault.
