Capítulo 630: Chapter 630. Each Side’s Preparation Before the Clash
The First Demon Army marched toward Khode’s capital without much resistance. They arrived in the vicinity of Dabao City after marching for six days.
Amon didn’t immediately push toward their destination. He had the army camp and rested for a full day. The next morning, after everyone was well-rested, the army resumed its march.
An hour later, they came into sight of Dabao City. They didn’t immediately attack the capital. Amon had the army stop a distance away.
Dabao City stood amid flat, barren desert, making any approach visible to sentries. Amon did not doubt that everyone in the capital was already aware of their presence.
—————
That was indeed the case. Nearly everyone in the capital was aware of the First Demon Army’s approach, including Zee Whang, who remained lying leisurely in his throne bed. There was no sign of urgency on his face. It was instead his guests who showed impatience.
“Your Magnificent, the enemy is already on our doorstep! Please mobilize your Royal Puppet Army!” Wai Ling exclaimed.
“Wai Ling, calm down!” Wai Kung admonished.
Zee Whang eyed Wai Ling with a condescending stare. She had dishevelled hair and her dress was unkempt. Her face was a portrait of rage and madness. Already lost the elegance she had displayed in the past.
“No!” Wai Ling exclaimed. “The one responsible for Xuang Feng’s death is within reach. How can I calm down?”
“It seems Xuang Feng’s demise shook you greatly,” Zee Whang uttered. He did not attempt to hide the contempt in his voice. “That’s how fragile and pointless a human relationship is. It can be snuffed out so easily. All you have left is just pain and emptiness, so pathetic.”
“I don’t care if you look down on me! Just send your Royal Puppet Army. I will join them and defeat the enemy!” Wai Ling exclaimed.
“Mm…” Zee Whang leaned forward. The myriad battle puppets on this floor suddenly surrounded Wai Kung and Wai Ling. Their stance didn’t show friendliness.
Wai Kung grabbed Wai Ling and forced her to kneel. He himself also knelt. “Your… Your Magnificent! Please forgive my daughter’s brashness. She is stricken with grief. She is not being herself!”
Wai Ling struggled. Wai Kung kept her down and whispered into her ear, “If we die here. No one will take revenge for Xuang Feng. You must endure if you wish to exact revenge!”
Those words seemed to make Wai Ling realize her position. She lowered her head and uttered, “I’m sorry, Your Magnificent… I let emotion get the better of me. Please forgive me…”
“Hmph! You, humans, and your emotions disgust me,” Zee Whang spat. “I will let this slide just this once. Do not repeat it.”
Wai Kung heaved a relieved sigh. He was against bringing Wai Ling here, but she insisted on following. He kept his hand on her daughter’s shoulder. He applied pressure to prevent her from speaking further.
Now that Wai Ling was under control, he could discuss the situation with Zee Whang.
“Your Magnificent, allow our troops to join your Royal Puppet Army. We will crush them and let them regret ever invading this nation.”
“How many troops do you have left?” Zee Whang asked.
“Three thousand…,” Wai Kung answered.
Zee Whang laughed in disdain. “I permitted you to assemble an army. Not only did you waste the opportunity I’ve bestowed upon you by losing so badly, but you also still dare to come and offer to help me using whatever was left of that pathetic army? Are you joking? If it is, I must admit it is quite amusing.”
“Your Magnificent, I…”
“Shut up…!!!”
Wai Kung went into silence. He didn’t dare to draw Zee Whang’s ire.
“Spare me your excuses. I have no interest in hearing them,” Zee Whang said. “Those clowns out there who think they can intrude upon my territory. They will soon learn what it means to cross me. I, however, don’t need your help, and my Royal Puppet Army certainly doesn’t need your help. Your pathetic troops will just be a hindrance.
“You can march out there with your troops if you want. But when my Royal Puppet Army is outside, you’d better move out of the way. My Royal Puppet Army fights best when they act as one and don’t need to babysit anyone. If you come close, you will be considered hostile. You have been warned!”
Wai Ling moved. She wanted to say something, but Wai Kung increased the pressure and made her wince in pain.
“If that is Your Magnificent’s will. We will comply,” Wai Kung said. “But we will still march out. We will watch over the battle and make sure the enemy doesn’t try any tricks.”
“Do whatever you want,” Zee Whang said. He made a gesture, and one of his battle puppets approached Wai Kung. In its hand was a space ring. “You brought me something interesting from your battle with the enemy, so consider that a gift to help your pathetic army.”
Wai Kung looked inside the ring and was delighted to see its contents. He quickly thanked Zee Whang. “Thank you, Your Magnificent!”
Zee Whang waved him away. He cared not for such words from a human.
“When will Your Magnificent send out the Royal Puppet Army?” Wai Kung asked.
“Soon. Once I make sure the enemy doesn’t try any trick,” Zee Whang answered.
Wai Kung gave a questioning expression, but Zee Whang didn’t provide any further explanation. Since it was so, Wai Kung excused himself. He brought Wai Ling and took the elevator down.

Outside Dabao City, Amon reorganized his army and had them spread into a wide formation. He expected the enemy to meet them outside the capital. All the intel he had gathered about the Supreme Councilor informed him that Zee Whang was a haughty man who had utmost confidence in his Royal Puppet Army. He also despised and looked down on all humans.
Considering his personality, Amon was sure Zee Whang would send the Royal Puppet Army out of the capital to engage them rather than holing up behind the capital’s barrier. That’s why he didn’t advance closer to the capital. He left the large empty field between his army and Dabao City as their battlefield.
Amon arranged the human puppets at the frontmost line. For this battle, he had these human puppets equipped with the bomb backpacks. He was ready to go on an all-out open confrontation this time.
While they were preparing, several battle puppets with flight units suddenly shot up into the sky. They attacked something invisible. When they flew back down, they carried with them strange-looking gadgets.
“These are the Supreme Councilor’s scout puppets,” Zhong Yuan identified the gadgets. “These puppets have a similar ability to Faxien Radars, but with a wider scope. They can detect everything in their surroundings and send the information back to the command center. These should be cloaked by invisible talismans before our battle puppets engage them.”
“Drones…,” Amon muttered.
“Huh? What?” Zhong Yuan asked.
“Never mind,” Amon said. “The enemy wants to ensure our position. I bet they sent these scout puppets to all the surrounding areas around the capital. They want to make sure we don’t hide any detachment troops elsewhere. They should come out soon after they confirm our force is concentrated in this position.”
“Are you sure? We will look rather stupid staying out like this if the enemy decides to just coop up inside the capital,” Zhong Yuan said.
“There is no certainty in battle, but I am sure they will act like I anticipated,” Amon replied.
Zhong Yuan gave Amon an exasperated look and said, “I am seriously confused by your conflicting messages.”
—————
After leaving Council Pylon, Wai Kung and Wai Ling went to the outer boundary of the capital. There, a garrison of soldiers was waiting for them. This was what was left of the Grand Militia.
“Zue Siao! Have you changed your mind to join us?” Wai Ling asked after seeing the girl.
“I’m sorry. I’m only here to send you off,” Zue Siao said apologetically. “My father has prohibited the Zue Clan from being further involved in this fight.”
Wai Ling was disappointed. “Easy for you to say! You haven’t lost anything to those Echos’ scumbags. Let’s see if you can still say the same when they enter and raid this city!”
“Wai Ling, stop that!” Wai Kung scolded. Wai Ling turned away and harrumphed.
Wai Kung turned to Zue Siao and apologized. “Please forgive her. She didn’t mean what she said.”
“It’s alright. I understand her loss.” Zue Siao said. She looked at the force gathered there and said, “I see many members of the Wai Clan. You will truly go all out against the enemy?”
“Of course, unlike some coward clans,” Wai Ling uttered.
Zue Siao didn’t respond to the insult.
Wai Kung sighed and shook his head. He asked Zue Siao, “I heard a rumor that your father met with the Charger Guild. Can that be the reason that Zue Clan opts out of this fight?”
“I asked my father, but he refused to tell me,” Zue Siao replied.
Wai Kung turned to Zue Du, who was also there. “I guess you will also stay out of this battle?”
“I am a member of the Zue Clan, but I’m also a soldier of the Khode Army,” Zue Du replied. “I will join the battle.”
“Are you sure?” Wai Kung asked.
“I am,” Zue Du confirmed.
Wai Kung nodded. “Very well. Let us march out. I swear, today we will finally defeat the invaders who have been trampling through our nation’s land, or we will die trying!”
