Capítulo 621: Chapter 621. Targeting the Empty Camp
Yong Baili was glad he had moved away in time. If he were struck by the main lightning pillar, he was sure he wouldn’t have an intact body anymore. He, however, could not escape the lightning snakes that spread from the point of impact. His defensive art protected him. He wasn’t wounded, but the lightning energy paralyzed his body.
The others near him were not as fortunate. Only Spirit Stage soldiers were unscathed, but they were similarly paralyzed like Yong Baili. Mystic stage soldiers who survived mostly suffered various degrees of burns on their bodies.
The Lightning Calamity took out many Echos’ soldiers, but the real loss was their Yuanxu Cannons. The First Demon Army placed twenty-three Yuanxu Cannons on the mountains. Eight cannons were destroyed or buried under the rubble after the devastation.
If not for the cannons being placed at a distance from one another along the mountain range, they would probably have lost all the cannons. The remaining fifteen stopped firing because the operators were so shocked by the incident, but Yong Baili’s shout brought them back to attention.
Xuang Feng was diving toward Yong Baili. Unfortunately for him, the distance he put to help him prepare for the Lightning Calamity was now a hindrance. He failed to reach Yong Baili in time before Yong Baili recovered, so did his army, which had moved away to avoid becoming Lightning Calamity’s collateral damage.
Apart from those who suffered heavy wounds, most Echos’ soldiers had recovered from paralysis. Those further away who escaped the Lightning Calamity rushed forward to face the incoming Khode’s troops. They clashed again for the second time.
Echos’ force was at a disadvantage after losing a considerable number from the Lightning Calamity. The enemy now outnumbered them. However, they still had a trick up their sleeves.
Some of the battle puppets were equipped with Faxien Radars. Yong Baili ordered those with space rings to release the elemental mines they had stored before the battle.
The elemental mines flew toward the enemies immediately after they were brought out. With so many mines suddenly spreading around the battlefield, Khode’s force was as if being assaulted by a torrent of ranged arcane arts.
Echos’ riflemen who were spared from the Lightning Calamity also resumed firing their rifles at the enemies flying above.
Xuang Feng’s Lightning Calamity might have won them the first round, but he realized now that what he did was bring their two forces to an equal ground. If they had continued the clash earlier, Echos’ force could have overwhelmed them before long.
He wasn’t discouraged, though. He didn’t mind equal ground. They had been dealt a consistently bad hand ever since the war began. Having an equal ground meant a chance to win. Furthermore, his Lightning Calamity had boosted the morale of his troops. He could see it on their expressions. They were now fighting with the expectation of winning.
He used a talisman that conjured powerful winds. The winds blew all the elemental mines flying toward him. He then charged forward while thrusting his whip sword at Yong Baili.
Yong Baili moved away while spinning his threads. His threads were not invisible this time. They were shining with dark green light. This was because he imbued them with the wood elements. The energy increased the threads’ resilience and sharpness.
He then performed an arcane art he created specifically for use with his threads. His threads appeared to multiply. They became a net that was about to envelop Xuang Feng.
Xuang Feng’s whip sword slashed with lightning speed, but his slashes failed to stop the net’s advance. He was forced to use another talisman to defend himself. The talisman conjured a violent whirlpool of water that washed the wooden net away.
As the two were battling, a battle puppet suddenly came beside Yong Baili. A loud clang was heard, and it jerked as if it had been hit.
‘An invisible enemy!’ Yong Baili thought in alarm.
“Let me deal with it!” A voice told him.
A torrent of flames washed the area next to the battle puppet. Soon, a man with mechanical armor was revealed. The man was Zue Du. The invisible talisman in his forehead had been burned by the flames.
Zue Du was vexed. He had been saving that mid-tier runic-grade invisible talisman, which could fool even Spirit Sense. It was gone now before he could take down the enemy’s Spirit Stage commander.
Zue Du turned to the person who had used the fire breath on him. The person was Gao Xingzi. Gao Xingzi attacked using her rope dart, forcing Zue Du to block it using his giant gauntlet. The two fought one another. Gao Xingzi’s Yao Bird watched her back, attacking other nearby enemies.
Xuang Feng focused his attention on Yong Baili. While fighting, he observed the situation. There were still a considerable number of strong cultivators on the enemy’s side. He was confused, though. The one he was most worried about was nowhere to be seen.
Where was General Amon?
—————
“How is the battle going?” A Khode’s tech specialist asked a sentry who kept watch around the camp. Not many were left in the camp since Khode’s army sent its full force to Tusha Valley. The ones left in camp were support personnel and a few soldiers to keep watch.
“It is still ongoing,” the sentry answered. “I can’t tell who is winning, but the fact that the battle is ongoing means our army hasn’t pushed its way through the valley.”
“We have been here for too long. I hope this war can end soon.”
“We all wish the same, brother.”
“Don’t worry. Brother Lai Badong was confident we would win.”
“Oh, so you are with that dude, eh?”
“You don’t agree with Brother Lai Badong?”
The sentry shrugged. He didn’t agree but didn’t want to start an argument, so he chose silence. The tech specialist did the same. The two continued observing the battle in the distance.
The tech specialist caught something on the monitor of a nearby device. The device collected the information from the Faxien Radars planted around their camp. Under Xuang Feng’s order, similar devices were set up around the perimeter so the operators could quickly inform the sentry in case the enemies tried to sneak into their camp.
“Huh…?” The tech specialist uttered after reading the information.
“Is something the matter?” The sentry asked.
“The Faxien Radars detected a human-sized thing moving toward our camp,” the tech specialist pointed in a direction. “But there is nothing there.”
The sentry looked at the monitor. “That distance is still outside the range of my Mystic Sense,” he said. He had the cultivation of the Beginning Mystic Stage.
“What’s wrong?” A woman’s voice asked them from behind.
The two turned and saw a female Khode soldier.
“What’s your rank? Why are you not with the army?” The sentry asked the female soldier while pointing at Tusha Valley.
The tech specialist, on the other hand, recognized the female soldier. “Sister Weng Li? I thought you followed Brother Lai Badong in the assault.”
While the sentry was curious why Weng Li didn’t join the fighting army, there was a more urgent issue at hand. He called the tech specialist, “Hey, the thing your device detects is increasing in speed. It will enter our camp soon.”
“Uh… What should we do?” The tech specialist asked.
“I’m not taking any chances. I’m activating the field barrier,” the sentry replied.
He was about to run toward the nearest barrier rod planted around their camp’s perimeter when Weng Li stood in his way.
“I’m afraid I can’t let you do that,” she said.
“What the hell are yo–achkk…!!” The sentry was throttled when Weng Li slapped his throat. He touched his throat and felt warm liquid. He looked at his hand and saw in horror that it was covered in blood. He then noticed Weng Li’s hands had sharp nails.
“What… What are you…” The tech specialist was shocked by the turn of events. He also didn’t manage to finish his sentence because Weng Li’s hand swiped past his neck. He fell after Weng Li hit him. During his fall, he noticed the thing the Faxien Radars detected had gone past the perimeter of their camp.
Amon materialized after removing the high-tier engraved invisible talisman on his forehead. He first plucked one barrier rod out of the ground and stored it in his black space ring before approaching Weng Li.
“Come on,” Amon said. “We don’t have much time.”
Weng Li transformed into Lin Li. She nodded and said, “Follow me.” She then transformed again into her true form, the multi-tailed fox.
Lin Li ran at high speed. Amon used his movement art to keep up. Lin Li led him to where the Khode Army stored their supplies and equipment. He cleaned them all out by throwing them into his black space ring. Battle puppet parts, stocks of talismans, Yuanxu Cannons’ spare parts and ammunition, rations, pills, and everything else of importance, he raided them all.
His action was finally noticed by the few soldiers left in the camp. They sounded the alarm.
After the alarm sounded, Amon saw enemy soldiers advancing on his position. He released the battle puppets inside his black space ring. The battle puppets fought these soldiers. A portion ran around the camp, burning all the tents they passed.
