Chapter 613: Chapter 613. The Enemy of Everyone

Lin Li hated this disguise task, since she had to leave her home inside Amon’s black space ring. However, she couldn’t say no to Amon’s request. Not because he forced her to, but simply because she felt too indebted to him. All her advancement, comfort, and safety, she owed to Amon. How could she refuse him when he needed her help?

She already possessed keen natural senses in her basic form. With each evolution, her senses further heightened. That’s why she had no trouble hearing Wei Zhuang and Lu Bao’s conversation from outside the tent.

The next day, Xu Bao reported to Amon that they received a letter from a Khode soldier, who approached them while waving a white flag.

“Hm… He sure works fast,” Amon said.

“He?” Xu Bao didn’t understand who Amon meant.

Instead of answering, Amon gave Xu Bao a sealed letter, which he had prepared even before Xu Bao came. “Give this to the soldier who brought the letter. We haven’t slain him, have we?”

“No, General. We follow the battlefield’s etiquette,” Xu Bao answered.

“Good.” Amon dismissed him.

Xu Bao was curious about how Amon already had a reply letter ready, but decided not to ask. He excused himself with Amon’s reply letter in his hand.

Later, near midnight, Amon stood at one of the tops of the Tusha Mountain Range. The top he was on was away from the valley where the two armies were camping. On the ground under his feet was a glowing, bright flare stone. Its light was like a beacon in the night. The light, however, was too far for either camp to notice.

Not long after, he saw three figures approaching from the air. As they approached, Amon recognized one of the three as Wei Zhuang.

“You come alone?” Wei Zhuang asked.

“I do,” Amon replied.

In Wei Zhuang’s letter, he requested a private meeting with Amon. He mentioned that each side may bring two companions. He didn’t expect Amon to come alone. Wei Zhuang looked around. They were at the top, but numerous rocky outcroppings lay below, where people could hide.

“Don’t worry. I am truly alone,” Amon assured him.

“That is pretty bold,” Wei Zhuang said, before adding. “Don’t take it badly, I meant that as praise.”

“You are yourself bold to let me choose the place and time to meet,” Amon said. He picked up the glowing, bright flare stone and shut it off.

“Of course, I am the one who initiated this meeting. I must show goodwill. Otherwise, you might think this is a ploy to ambush you. Though I must say I am rather surprised you picked such a spot. I at first thought you would pick a spot closer to your camp.”

Amon looked at the two cultivators Wei Zhuang brought. Both had cultivation at the Intermediate Spirit Stage. As for Wei Zhuang, he was at the Peak Mystic Stage. He stood behind the two.

“These two don’t look like Khode soldiers,” Amon said.

“No, they are my personal bodyguards,” Wei Zhuang answered.

“They also don’t look like natives of this nation,” Amon remarked. Aside from their appearance, Amon based his assumption on their cultivation level. Intermediate Spirit Stage cultivators were considered top cultivators in Khode. The two would have high ranks if they were Khode citizens. They wouldn’t be lowly bodyguards.

Wei Zhuang simply smiled without responding to Amon’s remark.

“So, what do you want to talk about?” Amon asked while folding his arms.

“I want to ask if you would agree to pull back your troops?” Wei Zhuang asked.

“No,” Amon replied flatly. “If this is all you want to convey by calling me here, then I will have to punish you for wasting my time.”

The expressions on the two bodyguards changed after hearing Amon’s threat, but Wei Zhuang maintained a calm expression.

“Please be patient, General Amon. I’m asking this because the true time-wasting is the war you waged here.”

“Really? What made you say that?” Amon asked.

“That’s because the enemy to humanity, to Aetheria, and to the survival of everyone living on this surface world, is not here in Khode.”

“Mm, I’m intrigued. Explain,” Amon said, feigning ignorance.

Wei Zhuang was glad about Amon’s request. He said, “Throughout millennia, excavations were conducted all over Aetheria. While most excavations yielded treasures, as was intended by the excavators, a few of the oldest ruins from the lost epoch resulted in us gaining knowledge of the past.”

Wei Zhuang observed Amon’s expression. When he saw that Amon had no intention of interrupting, he continued, “Some of the knowledge that was dug up contained warnings. These warnings were hidden behind coded and invisible inscriptions, as though the ones who left them were afraid that they would be destroyed if they were exposed. The interesting thing was that they all warned about the same catastrophe, even when these ruins were discovered in different countries and showed different cultures.”

“Catastrophe?” Amon asked.

Wei Zhuang nodded. “It took a long time for us to collect these discoveries and decipher them. It is not easy because we must hide it from our real enemy. After studying it for many decades, we interpret that the hidden messages contain the same prophecy. This prophecy warns us that every ten million years, a catastrophe strikes. This catastrophe is so huge that it will wipe out all civilizations and their records. Well, all except one.”

“Hm…” Amon uttered. The last bit was news to him.

“Within the coded information from the ruins, we found the mention of a party. Some used the same name to describe the party, while others used different names. However, this party possessed the same characteristics, which led us to conclude that all the parties mentioned were one and the same. They simply adopted different names for different epochs. This party also existed in our current era, but under a different name.”

“Which is?” Amon asked.

“The Temple of Divinity,” Wei Zhuang answered. “Whatever catastrophe that has or will befall this world, we believe this organization is the cause. That makes them the enemy of everyone.”

“I see… Let me guess. Whoever you represent, you lot have successfully persuaded Gyleth Marx, Farghous, and Khode to go along with your cause.”

Wei Zhuang nodded. “The excavations I mentioned before were conducted within these countries. We approached them and offered to help decipher their findings. From the results, we agreed that we must defeat the Temple of Divinity. Only by doing so can we avert the coming catastrophe.”

“Your party must have been preparing for this for a long time,” Amon said.

“Centuries,” Wei Zhuang answered. “It is not easy persuading countries to take up arms, but we are patient. Thankfully, our patience allows us not to be detected by our enemy, despite its great influence. To tell the truth, we have also approached Echos.”

“You did?” Amon asked.

“We heard a rumor that Echos discovered an artifact containing a similar prophecy. We knew the rumor should hold some truths because Oredolia sent its envoys to Echos. We knew that at the time, King Huang Ti was still in deep meditation. We didn’t know how the meeting with Oredolia’s envoys went, but once we learned King Huang Ti ended his meditation, we immediately sent our own envoy to meet him.”

Amon was secretly amused. What Echos had was a mural that contradicted the temple’s teachings, not the prophecy.
