Chapter 472: [Dystopian Elven War] [48]

[Himmel’s POV]

I came back to the capital city after my obnoxious talk with Nerissa.

And it wasn’t long before I was aware of the attack that happened.

All three of them were safe thanks to Nymeria’s interference.

The wind blew past my face as I landed on the ground.

The royal guards tensed up in front of the gate as I walked past them.

They didn’t dare to stop me nor was I in the mood to entertain them.

As I strolled towards the main throne room, a maid blocked my path.

She hastily bowed in front of me.

“Lady Pasithea said you will come,” she said. “She asked me to guide you.”

It was mild, no—if I wasn’t observant, I might have missed it.

Her body language said a lot about how she was seeing me.

I let out a sigh as I rubbed my temples in annoyance.

“Why are you trembling?” I couldn’t help but ask. “Am I scary to you?”

“Y-you don’t look like you’re in a good mood,” she replied, looking back at my face. “I am sorry if I offended you.”

I nodded, getting over it. “Guide me.”

She turned sharply and hastily began to move as I followed.

[]

Inna’s concerned voice bore into my head.

I gave her a mental nod. ‘I am fine… just tired.’

Things didn’t go with Nerissa as I had hoped for.

Then again, nothing goes the way I want them to.

‘…It’s just sad, I thought of her as my mother.’

[]

I didn’t say anything as the maid led me to a room on the far left of the palace.

She gave a knock before saying, “Sir Himmel is here.”

A voice echoed from the inside. “Send him in.”

The maid opened the door and bowed slightly.

I nodded as I walked inside.

The first person to catch my eyes was Nymeria, who stood on the side.

Siersha and Zenith sat on the bed and Pasithea on the chair beside them.

Zenith looked restless, swinging her legs like a child but stealing cautious glances at me.

The door shut behind me with a soft click.

My gaze lingered a second longer on Nymeria, but she didn’t look back.

“…You’re late,” Siersha finally muttered, breaking the silence.

I exhaled slowly, rubbing the back of my neck. “I came as fast as I could.”

As I walked, Pasithea stood up and gave me her seat.

I sat down on the chair, dragging it close to Zenith.

“They were from the Demiurge Kingdom,” Pasithea spoke. “They planned to kill Zenith and Siersha and kidnap me.”

Anger bubbled under my skin, but I kept my composure.

I examined the neck of Zenith that had a small cut on it.

She tried to remove my hand as it glowed in a greenish hue. “I am fine—.”

I grabbed both her hands with one of mine. “Stay. Still.”

She quieted down as I healed her wound.

“Things would have been different if Nymeria hadn’t shown up,” Siersha said, making me glance at her.

“Thank you.”

She looked startled, her lips parting as if to argue, but in the end, she only gave a small nod.

Zenith frowned, tugging at her sleeve. “…Don’t thank her.” She whispered. “She used to bully me when I started my classes—.”

“Zenith.” I cut her off, looking into her eyes. “Shut up.”

Zenith’s mouth hung open in protest. “…What?”

I ignored her as I completely healed her neck.

She turned her face away with a huff, mumbling something under her breath, but at least she stayed quiet.

Pasithea walked closer as she cleared her throat.

“We looked into their backgrounds,” she informed.

“The one leading them was a bastard of King Kryllios.”

I leaned back on the chair as I looked at her, but she averted her gaze for some reason.

Letting out a sigh, I closed my eyes as I tried to keep myself calm.

‘…That bastard.’

For how long am I going to pretend and take all those attacks?

How long am I going to keep my loved ones in danger?

Kryllios failed this time, but that doesn’t mean he would the next time.

‘I can’t….’

I can’t lose anyone else like I lost Christina.

There is no saying that I won’t snap if that really happens.

“….Himmel.” Zenith’s meek voice made me look back at her.

She had a conflicted look on her face as she stared into my eyes.

“..My mother,” she whispered hesitantly. “…Is she connected to this war?”

Her words caught everyone in the room off guard.

Even Siersha, who rarely showed surprise, blinked and shifted her gaze toward Zenith.

I didn’t say anything for a long while as I kept on staring at her.

Maybe it was my own selfishness, but I don’t want to drag her into this.

…I don’t want her innocence spoiled because of her mother.

But the longer I kept my silence, the more anxious her face became.

“….She isn’t.” She swallowed, her face tearing up. “….She isn’t helping the Demiurges, right?”

“….”

My silence only made her face worsen.

A myriad of emotions flickered on her face as she kept on staring at me.

“….Himmel.” She whispered, barely holding back her tears. “Please tell me it’s a lie.”

I let out a sigh as I stood up.

Without any words, I hugged her, squeezing her gently in my arms.

I kissed her head as I whispered, “Everything will be alright.”

Letting her go, I moved back as I began to walk out of the place.

Nymeria quickly slipped forward. “Where are you going?”

I looked at her as I controlled myself.

“…This war is going on for far too long,” I replied, staring into her eyes. “…One of the races needs to go.”

She frowned, her eyes on me. “Alone?”

I didn’t reply as I glanced back at Zenith once again.

“Look after them.”

Saying so, I unfolded my wings as I left the place.

—

As soon as Himmel left, Zenith broke down into tears.

Siersha came forward to console her, but the same could not be said for the rest.

Pasithea had a mixed reaction on her face, but she held herself back from acting on impulse.

Zenith buried her face in her hands, her shoulders trembling with quiet sobs.

Siersha knelt beside her, awkward at first, then wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close.

“Hey, it’s alright,” Siersha murmured, though her own voice wavered. “He’ll be fine. Himmel’s too stubborn to fall in a war.”

Zenith shook her head, pressing against Siersha’s shoulder like a child.

“…But… if Mama really is… then everything’s ruined. Everything.”

Siersha looked down at her, lips pressed tight, unable to find the right words.

“Are you going to keep on crying?”

Zenith’s body startled as a childlike voice echoed.

She blinked away the tears as she saw a child sitting in front of her.

“….Avelia.”

She whispered softly.

The girl blinked as she repeated her words.

“Are you going to keep on crying?”

She sniffled as she looked at the others, but they completely ignored the child.

….No, they couldn’t see the child in the first place.

Her long blue hair pulled up as the child stood in front of her.

“Are you not going to stop papa?” She said, looking into Zenith’s eyes. “…You always wanted to stop this, don’t you?”

“W-what are you….”

“You have seen it already, haven’t you?” Avelia said, her purple eyes sharp. “…What papa did.”

Zenith flinched visibly as she remembered it.

The massacre of the Demiurge that she saw once.

And….

….The death of the mother.

“If you don’t do anything now,” Avelia continued. “Papa will kill Yenna.”

[Vampire-Elven Border.]

“Huff….”

Oliver let out a soft breath as he stretched his body.

The sun was high up in the sky as he stood under it.

“What a nice day, isn’t it?”

He said with a smile as he cracked his knuckles.

[≤Why so happy today?≥]

The voice of Lilith echoed in his mind as he walked around the border.

“I don’t know.” Oliver replied softly. “I just have a feeling that something good will happen.”

The Vampires he walked past bowed towards him as he was their general.

They first had their fair share of objections as to why a human should lead them.

The beating they got after that made them swallow their own complaints.

[≤It’s going to happen soon, isn’t it?≥]

Oliver smiled brightly as he nodded.

“Just a few more days,” he whispered to himself. “And I will be an Eternal.”

[≤Will you go after Edel as soon as you rank up?≥]

“…I don’t know,” Oliver replied as he walked uphill. “…Depends on how confident I am in beating him.”

[≤Do as you please, I will have your back.≥]

Oliver smiled as he kept on walking. “What if I can’t beat him?”

[≤Then we will jump him, he won’t survive if I join.≥]

“Aren’t gods forbidden from meddling with human affairs?”

[≤….I would much rather make some puny gods my enemy than lose you.≥]

Oliver didn’t say anything as he reached the top of the hill.

“Don’t worry,” he mumbled as he looked forward. “I will make sure nothing like that happens.”

A small smile crept on his face as Oliver noticed a human army walking towards them.

The army that Edel sent as the backup for the vampires.

“But first,” Oliver said with a smile. “Let’s cripple his army.”
