Chapter 469: [Dystopian Elven War] [45]
[Tamriel Kingdom, Alfheim]
[Lumina]
[3 days later]
Zenith blinked as she tried to blink away the dizziness.
She quickly walked out of the teleportation room as the people behind her urged.
Zenith glanced back but only found a few beings with her.
‘…Ah, right. They are at war.’
She thought as her mood immediately turned sore.
Zenith never understood why someone would go to war.
War never brings good to anyone or anything.
It always causes destruction and death.
‘Mama always says to stay away from anything relatively close to war.’
Yet here she was in the capital of the kingdom that was at war.
Zenith felt her heart tremble as she walked out.
The place was nothing like she remembered when she visited last time.
It smelled like riot and death, not flowers and fresh.
She had an urge to vomit but she kept herself steady.
‘Siersha said she will come pick me.’
Zenith thought as she looked around the place.
It didn’t take her long to find the vampire in the horde of elves.
She stood with another elf close to a car.
Zenith quickly rushed towards her with a small smile.
Siersha sighed and walked forward. “What are you doing here?”
She blinked. “Is this how you greet your friends?”
Daina who was accompanying them pointed at the car. “Get inside.”
Siersha got in and Zenith followed behind her.
The door shut with a dull thud, muffling the noise of the crowded streets outside.
Zenith sat beside Siersha, clutching the hem of her dress as she tried to peek out the tinted window.
The sight of Alfheim’s capital, once filled with life, was now scarred…buildings blackened, guards rushing through the streets, and citizens huddling together in fear.
She swallowed hard. “…It’s worse than I thought.”
Siersha leaned back in her seat, arms crossed. Her crimson eyes flicked to Zenith. “That’s why I told you not to come.”
Zenith puffed her cheeks, frowning. “And I told you I couldn’t just sit around. I need to be here.”
Siersha looked at her. “So, what happened?”
Zenith turned serious as she shifted in her seat.
“…I think my mother is involved in the war.” She said with a straight face.
Siersha first glanced at Daina and sure enough she was hearing her words.
“…Think it through before you answer this.” Siersha said, looking at her. “Who do you think your mother is helping?”
Zenith blinked innocently like she asked the most obvious question.
“Elves obviously.” She replied. “Who else would my mother side with instead of good guys.”
“Forgive my interference, Lady Zenith.” Daina couldn’t help but interfere. “I would have known if she was involved with the elves.”
Zenith frowned in response. “Maybe she is, you don’t know—.”
“I am the head analyst, Lady Zenith.” She replied, cutting her off. “There is nothing that I don’t know.”
“How did you even come to the conclusion that she is involved in the war?” Siersha sighed, looking at her.
Zenith quickly rushed towards her, invading her private space.
“My mum is going out for a long time and is really busy with something.” She replied, her eyes bright. “I searched her stuff and I found some private stuff about Demiurge Kingdom.”
Siersha turned even more serious as she stared at her. “Zenith—.”
Zenith didn’t listen as she tapped at Daina’s shoulder who was driving.
“Take us to Pasithea.” She said. “I will talk with her directly.”
Daina seemed like she wanted to say many things but she chose to keep her mouth shut.
She turned her car to the main elven palace.
—
—
The broken World Tree loomed over them as the car stopped close to the palace.
Siersha and Zenith walked out of the car.
Daina passed the key as she walked behind them.
Zenith was quick to notice the looks of the elven guards on Siersha.
It was pure disgust and hatred that seemed to come from the inside.
‘….Is it because she is a vampire?’
She wondered as she tugged her sleeve.
“Don’t worry.” Siersha replied, unbothered. “They can only glare.”
Zenith opened her mouth but quickly shut it.
Instead she asked. “Where is Himmel?”
“No idea.” She replied. “I haven’t seen him in three days.”
Zenith blinked. “You guys aren’t in touch?”
Siersha looked at her with suspicious eyes.
“Why do you sound happy about this?”
Zenith quickly shook her head. “It’s nothing like that!” She replied. “I was just wondering…”
She sighed. “Yeah, he bailed without telling me anything.”
Zenith tilted her head, lips pressed into a pout. “…That sounds like him.”
Siersha didn’t reply as they reached the main hall.
The guard opened the door when he saw Daina as he announced their presence.
‘…Wow, this place looks different.’
Zenith thought as she glanced around the bleak-looking hall.
At the far end of it, Pasithea sat on her throne.
When she looked at them she gently smiled. “Hello.”
She stood up as she walked towards them.
Pasithea gave Zenith a warm hug as she waved at Siersha.
Pasithea’s embrace caught Zenith off guard.
For a moment, she stiffened, but the warmth of the queen’s touch eased the tension in her shoulders.
“It’s been a while,” Pasithea said softly, her voice carrying a strange calmness. “You’ve grown since the last time I saw you.”
“I should say that.” Zenith replied with a soft smile. “I am sorry, I couldn’t come visit you regularly—.”
“Don’t be.” She replied, waving her concern off. “I would have most probably not entertained any guests.”
Zenith blinked rapidly, trying to process her words. “…Y-yeah. But I should have…” She paused. “My mother stopped me from visiting because of..war.”
“I said it’s fine.” Pasithea said with a small smile. “My mother would have done the same….”
Zenith’s heart ached when she felt the sadness in her voice.
She wanted to comfort her but she didn’t have the words to speak.
“I am sorry about your parents.” Was all that Zenith could say.
“Don’t be.” Pasithea replied with a small smile. “Himmel took revenge for my family in my stead.”
Zenith slowly nodded, feeling proud for some reason she couldn’t understand.
“Siersha.” Pasithea said, glancing at her. “There is a lot of suspicious activity going on within the Vampires’ borders.” She stared into her eyes. “Do you know why?”
“They plan to join the war.” She informed her. “I just don’t know which side.”
Pasithea bit her lips as she nodded her head.
“You would be our guest till the war ends.” She replied. “I will place a few guards for your own safety.”
Siersha tilted her head. “Are you planning to keep me as a war prisoner?”
Pasithea nodded without hiding her intentions. “I am sorry but I needed some insurance.”
Siersha surprisingly nodded in response. “Alright.”
Pasithea sighed as she glanced back at Zenith. “Now, what can I help you with Zenith?”
Zenith bit her lip, hesitating only for a moment. “Is my mother… is she helping you in this war?”
The hall fell silent as Pasithea looked at her.
She shook her head in response. “No.” She replied. “Lady Yennefer isn’t part of this war.”
Zenith blinked at Pasithea’s calm denial, her lips parting in surprise.
“…She isn’t?”
Pasithea shook her head again. “No. Whatever Lady Yennefer is busy with, it isn’t tied to Alfheim’s battlefield. I would have known.”
Zenith wanted to say more…she wanted to show her the notes she found in her mother’s bedroom.
But…
‘What if it was not what I am thinking.’
She thought, biting her lips in frustration.
What if her mother wasn’t helping the elves but actually helping the Demiurges?
‘No, my mother would never do such a thing.’ she quickly shook her head. ‘My mother isn’t like that.’
Drawing in a deep breath Zenith decided not to mention the files.
“Lady Daina.” Pasithea said, looking at her. “We should get ready.”
“Pardon?” Daina said tilting her head.
“The Demiurges have sent a message a few hours ago.” She replied with a small lifeless smile. “They are going for an all-out assault in two weeks.”
Daina’s eyes widened, though her composure returned quickly. “Two weeks…” she murmured. “That gives us little time to prepare.”
Siersha leaned forward, her gaze sharp.
“So it’s true, then. The Demiurges don’t intend to drag this out…they’re aiming to crush Alfheim in one decisive strike.”
Pasithea nodded, her expression grim. “They won’t hesitate to burn everything in their path.”
Just as Pasithea was about to speak a gust of wind swept past her.
She quickly blinked as she found a man standing infront of her.
Pasithea blinked as her heart rate spiked as the wings folded on itself.
Himmel looked around until his gaze fell on Pasithea. “Where is Nerissa?”
Pasithea, still in shock, wasn’t able to reply. “..uh, um.”
Daina spoke in her stead. “She should be in the garden.”
Himmel looked at her and nodded in response. “Thank you.”
Before he moved, Himmel gave a quick hug to Zenith before he vanished once again.
‘…What just happened?’
