Capítulo 1163: WW1: Second Kingdom of Lynden (1)
Cape Town.
Reading the report sent from the frontline, Vijay’s eyebrows raised. Unexpectedly, the Kingdom of Lynden really did end up supporting the European coalition. Most people did not know, but Vijay knew that the Kingdom of Lynden, which was established a few decades ago, was the same Kingdom of Lynden that was previously established in Southeast Asia, as part of the three Dutch kingdoms that inherited the colonies of the Republic of the Netherlands by Diederik Van Lynden.
At that time, Vijay was quite surprised when the kingdom was established because he thought, or rather, he was quite confident, that Diederik either escaped to the Americas or died. But who would have thought the daring guy would take the opposite route and settle in southern Africa?
After getting to know the truth, Vijay should have sent troops to arrest him so that he could pay for the crimes he had committed, but in the end, even though he did plan it, the plan fell through as Diederik somehow got the support of the Dutch settlers in establishing the kingdom, immediately making it harder to take him down.
Not to mention, although what he established was the second Kingdom of Lynden, in actuality, it was simply a mercenary group disguised as a nation that could run away at any time. Besides, if they went into the depths further inland, there was nothing that he could do about it, since the kingdoms with which the Bharatiya Empire is allied and trades are further in the Central African region. So, between Central and South Africa, there is still a massive land area that can be used to hide from the empire.
Also, Vijay heard that Diederik actually passed away a few years after establishing the kingdom, letting his son inherit it, so Vijay stopped paying attention to this small Dutch kingdom.
However, who would have thought that in a very short span of time, under the new King William Stead Lynden, the Kingdom of Lynden would become the largest trader of slaves in southern Africa.
In a way, Vijay was also partially responsible for the prosperity of the slave trade in the south led by the Kingdom of Lynden.
As the influence of the Bharatiya Empire deepened in the continent of Africa, especially in the north, the slave trade was severely cracked down, making the price of slaves shoot up. Of course, this, to his exasperation, had a positive effect on Europe as they went into industrialisation, but the effect on the colonies, like the Americas, was extremely devastating.
With the Europeans unable to tame the Native Americans, and migration alone not being able to support the development of the Americas, slaves were necessary in every field.
The second Kingdom of Lynden essentially took advantage of this and sold the slaves to the massive American market. And given that the basis of all major European kingdoms and empires was present in Cape Town, the sale was even more convenient. Thanks to this convenience, they had no unsold merchandise; No matter how many people they caught today, they could be sold the very next day.
It is due to this that the economy prospered greatly, making the kingdom, which was originally nothing but a mercenary town, into an actual power.
Vijay wanted to hamper the Kingdom of Lynden’s growth, but it was neighbouring Cape Town, the home ground of the Europeans, not to mention it did not even have a coast and was entirely landlocked. Although this kind of geography is a curse to any country focusing on trade, for the Kingdom of Lynden, where the merchandise can be sold to the neighbour, finding the buyers and shipping the product was never a problem. Not to mention, given the kind of work they do, and given the history of animosity with the Bharatiya Empire, being landlocked is much better, at least it is easier to defend.
Vijay knew all this, and it was one of the main reasons why the kingdom helped the previous prime minister, Vinod, in establishing a new vassal kingdom right at the Mozambique Channel, so that this thorn in his eyes could be kept in check.
But now that this Dutch kingdom is openly harbouring the European Coalition, the enemy of the Bharatiya Empire, the time has come to finish what he had started, but this time, for good.
Vijay’s eyes sharpened, and he wrote a list of orders that were sent out in the fastest boat in the fleet.
—
Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
Sumit Chatur let out a sigh, depressed. He could not understand why the gods seemed to despise him. He was absolutely convinced they were deliberately obstructing his military promotion, because how else could so many unfortunate coincidences possibly occur?
When he first arrived at Cape Town, he was disappointed because the Navy and the Marines took care of the whole landing situation. When the time came to push into the city, he was disappointed that the bicycle battalion took the lead. When he thought maybe at least by reinforcing the bicycle battalion, he would get the chance to fight the enemy, hehe, his 15th Squadron was assigned the task of searching the houses on the street.
What’s more outrageous is that out of the six European gorillas he had caught, none of them tried to resist. They raised their hands and gave up, but to his dismay, Captain Ramoji and his group actually got a chance to kill over four Europeans who tried to retaliate.
Even in the subsequent actions, where the operation to clear out the gorillas throughout the town came up, he did not get a chance to shoot even a single enemy, whereas all of his squadmates did.
Things were so bizarre that, not to mention him, even his squadmates started to believe there was something wrong with him. Two days passed, and once again he found himself standing at the perimeter, this time at the border of the Kingdom of Lynden, waiting for further orders.
He had just heard a piece of news. The captain of his 15th squadron, who held the rank of sergeant, had already been shortlisted for promotion to second lieutenant. He was happy for the captain, yet at the same time disheartened, because he was still stuck in the same place. Although due to his participation in the operation, he would still earn some merit points, and if he kept up the pace, he could eventually rise to second lieutenant or even first lieutenant, but those ranks were still far from his goal of becoming a general, a legendary general. Anything less would mean he had failed.
“Attention!!”
While Sumit was in the middle of sulking, he heard the shout of the first lieutenant and quickly sobered up as he looked intently at the athletic, middle-aged man who stood in front of them like a spear, radiating a rigid military temperament.
“In another hour, we are going to start our advancement into the Kingdom of Lynden. Be prepared.”
As soon as the words fell, Sumit’s eyes, which were like a shallow well, muddy and without any aim, immediately transformed into a restless ocean, ready to flatten everything in its wake.
The other soldiers, who, after two days of inaction, had a relaxed disposition, immediately stiffened their backs, becoming ramrod straight, as they started to radiate a fierce fighting intent like a pack of hungry wolves preparing for the hunt.
—
“The Bharatiyas are coming, fire the artillery.”
A Dutch soldier cried out.
The soldiers from the Kingdom of Lynden were originally not as relaxed as the Bharatiya soldiers, so as soon as the reconnaissance soldier alerted the high command, the artillerymen were already at their battle stations.
The first unit of the Bharatiya soldiers who came forward was not pure combatants, but a mix of special forces and the engineering corps.
The special forces commandos and rangers combined provided a wide range of cover fire, while the engineering corps got busy setting up the defences for the artillery to be mounted.
The engineering corps of the Bharatiya Empire was one of the most, if not the most, professional engineering military teams in the world. Their speed was astonishing, and each and every movement they made was extremely effective, fulfilling several objectives in a single action.
Even though cannonballs were exploding in their vicinity and bullets flew right above their heads, they did not panic. They bent down and, like precise machines, completed the tasks one by one, and within twenty minutes the defences had been set up. As if the battleground was a stage of an orchestra performance, as soon as the engineering corps set up the defence and mounting mechanism, the logistics unit pulled over the artillery pieces and swiftly mounted them on the mechanisms.
Due to the Dutch soldiers already having the higher ground in the exchange of fire, they dominated the initial stages of the battle, with several commandos and Rangers being killed and numerous being injured, but it was not for long. As soon as the defences of the Bharatiya Empire were set up and artillery pieces were installed, the situation completely changed.
“Boom!” “Boom!” “Boom!”
Against the heavy artillery, handheld rockets, mortars, and machine guns, the defence formed by the army of the Kingdom of Lynden could not withstand the firepower and cracks began to appear. Blood-curdling shouts repeatedly rang out, lowering the morale with every scream. The exploding blood particles and the smell of desperation did not help either. Even if the soldiers were behind a boulder or a thick wall made up of cement, the artillery bombardment of the Bharatiya Empire was like a relentless oxygen torch, burning even through the hardest of steels.
In a matter of an hour, the forces standing against the Bharatiya Empire were reduced by nearly half, a majority of them dead on the spot, and the lucky minority surviving with major injuries.
The rest of the soldiers knew that they could not defend any longer, so in panic, they abandoned the border and fled inland.
First Lieutenant Rampal lowered the binoculars and nodded in satisfaction.
“Well done, team,” he said, but just when he was about to talk with his subordinates about the next action, a series of fireworks shot up at the horizon. Without changing his gaze, Rampal snapped his finger and pointed at the communications officer.
The communications officer quickly deciphered the message and replied, “Project Rhino has been initiated.”
Most of the second lieutenants and the sergeants were clueless about what Project Rhino meant, but Rampal’s eyes lit up. He clenched his fist, and a wave of excitement spread throughout his body.
‘Finally, I can see those monsters in action, hahaha.’
