Chapter 1123: Paramveer & Telegram
24th June 1694
Akhand Bharatiya Empire
“What is the Bharatiya Central Commodity Exchange, and how does it matter to every financially responsible Bharatiya?” — Bharatam Daily
“Three new regulatory agencies have been established under the Reserve Bank of Bharat — the Banking Regulatory Authority of Bharat, the Insurance Oversight Commission, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. What do they do, and why do they matter?” — Business Weekly
“How the Unified Payments Interface is set to revolutionise international trade and allow even small businesses to acquire overseas clients without a middleman — read the full report below.” — Times of Bharat
“A new boon for entrepreneurs through the Bharatiya Sovereign Wealth Fund — how to apply.” — The Observer
“International Trade Facilitation Platform: an international advertising and solicitation platform for the banks of the Bharatiya Empire, launched under the Unified Payments Interface.” — Trade Digest, a Bakshi Media Corporation company.
The establishment of seven new financial institutions and eight new financial instruments was announced through major and regional newspapers, and as a result, the entire empire grew extremely lively. Every business school, along with every business and managerial major, began conducting research on the new developments by the Reserve Bank, while middle-class uncles and aunts speculated about what the new financial instruments meant and how much they planned to invest in them.
“Hey, brother, do you think I should buy a treasury bill? ” an office worker asked his co-worker during the lunch break.
The coworker stopped eating and fell into contemplation, ” I’m not too sure either, but the Reserve Bank has yet to issue the treasury bills, so when they do, let’s see how it performs. I’m sure the investment banks will want to try it out. ”
The office worker was left in thought, ” Makes sense. ”
In a wholesale marketplace at Vrindavan
“Listen, everyone “, the overseer of the marketplace stood on top of sacks of wheat and called out to all the traders, ” The BCCE has sent people to observe the sale of contracts, please cooperate. ”
The head office of the Bank of Aryavartha
The heads of the Sisodia family, Chauhan family, Paramara family, Bundela family, Tomar family, and the newly added major family, the Deshmukh family, all sat around a large table discussing the new policy of the government.
“How many of you are in favour of establishing a new division for lending money? ”
The majority of the people raised their hands.
“It is decided, we will establish a new department specialised in dealing with loans for civilians, be it short-term or long-term. ”
At this time, a question rang out. “As a way to attract more people to take loans, should we also lower the conditions to give out loans? ” Ujjwal Deshmukh asked, leaving everyone in thought.
“It is possible, but wouldn’t the risk of bad debt be too high? ” the head of the Tomar family enquired.
Ujjwal didn’t deny it, ” I agree, hence why I said just lowering the conditions, not removing them completely. How about, instead of solid assets like house deeds, land deeds, and other things, we also consider the earning potential of the client? Suppose the client is working at a company on a contract basis and is guaranteed a certain amount of money every month, giving a loan to this client is much safer, and clients like this are numerous in number. ”
Everyone thought this was feasible, so the head of the Sisodia family, who hosted the meeting, called out for votes once again, and the motion passed with four people agreeing and two disagreeing.
“Now, how do we go about this underwriting business? ” the head of the Sisodia family put forward the question.
All the heads were silent for a long time until the head of the Chauhan family, Veer Chauhan, spoke out, ” Should we wait until the clients come seeking us through the International Trade Facilitation Platform? ”
Everyone thought it was a good idea, after all, underwriting trade between foreign entities, they had never done before, so they did not want to spend too much on infrastructure if it was not profitable, but Ujjwal Deshmukh raised an objection.
“We should be much more assertive, doesn’t the policy document already hint this ?”
Everyone became silent, ” It does, but the benefits provided are only the exemption of taxes on what we earn overseas. What if we don’t earn, or worse, what if we lose money? ” The head of the Sisodia family spoke out, and everyone nodded, as this was their worry as well
Ujjwal furrowed his brows, but suddenly he got an idea, “How about this, instead of looking for the big clients like the kingdoms themselves, how about we try it out with small businessmen? We have our bank branches in all of the ASEAN nations. I’m sure we can facilitate some sort of trade between the clients of our banks in the two nations ?”
His words immediately intrigued everyone and left them in thought. Noticing this, Ujjwal further pushed on, going for the goal.
“I will go there myself and initially establish the business. If successful, we can use the accumulated experience to scale up”
All the heads of families nodded. “This is much more acceptable.” Their change of mind was not only because the losses could be minimised as much as possible, but also because Ujjwal volunteered to take up this responsibility. They had all seen how Ujjwal Deshmukh rose from a minority investor holding only around 0.5% of the company to becoming one of them with over 3%. They knew he was capable, so they were much more relieved.
Thinking for a moment, the head of the Sisodia family finally spoke up. “Alright, let’s vote on this. Here’s what I think: if Shri Ujjwal succeeds in managing this venture, we could gain a clear advantage over other banks, especially in international markets. I also believe the empire intends to expand this business to other countries in the near future, so our early involvement could be very beneficial. This business could become one of our core operations, standing alongside our main activities like providing business loans and handling customer deposits.”
The voting was held as soon as his words ended, and without a surprise, the motion was passed 5 to 1
Such situations arose across all financial institutions in the empire, be it a commercial bank, an investment bank, or an insurance firm. Everyone was trying to figure out a way to navigate the new financial landscape of the Bharatiya Empire, which had suddenly opened up the world for them.
While all this was happening, in the cradle of the Himalayas, a boy at the last row with a dark complexion, Paramveer, who was sitting in his class and listening to the lecture with a dull expression, had his eyes brightened.
He suddenly had an idea, and he couldn’t wait to try it out
After the class, he immediately ran to the laboratory of his magnetism teacher, Professor Ansel Eberhart, the German from Prussia who got naturalised in the Bharatiya Empire after he fled during the war.
“What happened, Paramveer? Why are you in such a hurry? ” he asked in a weird accent.
Paramveer was far too excited to explain what he wanted to do. Instead, he directly asked what he wanted, ” Professor, can I borrow your battery? ”
“Huh, why? ”
“Please, professor, I want to test out something. ”
Ansel looked at the eagerness practically oozing out from the boy, so he relented.
“Come on.. ” he waved his hand and took the boy into his personal laboratory.
After rummaging through the machines he had been working on for a long time, he finally found his masterpiece: the Eberhart Battery.
When he first arrived in the Bharatiya Empire, thanks to his modest reputation from back home, he was able to use the preferential naturalisation and work policy, and it had helped him secure a position as a professor at a tier two college. Coming to the empire had been the best decision of his life. Even though he had been compelled to move hear, he felt a deep sense of happiness, especially after experiencing the vibrant intellectual atmosphere and witnessing the high value placed on education throughout the empire.
Although his position was at a tier-two college, he was fortunate to receive substantial funding from the college’s trust. This support allowed him to build upon the work of a previous Bharatiya scientist and develop his own Eberhart Battery. By carefully stacking discs of zinc, copper, and diluted acid about sixty times, he created a continuous-flow battery capable of producing roughly 30 Vidyuts (Volts) of power. This groundbreaking invention not only earned him the prestigious Dharma Award but also opened the doors to the world’s most elite university, Raya University.
He put the battery on the table and waited to see what the boy did.
Paramveer looked around the laboratory and immediately picked out what he wanted. He took out a long copper wire and connected one of its ends to the copper plate of the battery, and took the other end and connected it to the zinc plate of the battery.
He cut the wire that was connected to the copper plate and left it aside to stop the unnecessary flow of current.
Paramveer stroked his chin and looked around the laboratory once again. As he saw something in the corner, his eyes lit up.
He ran forward and picked up the large nail from the nail box, placed it on the copper wire at the end, and rolled the copper wire around it several hundred times.
Ansel, who was standing at the side and watching everything happen, was still clueless. He did not know what the student of his was doing, but he did not disturb him. As a researcher himself, he knew what the feeling of having an idea in mind that has to be immediately tested out feels like.
After coiling the wire around the nail, the lengthy copper wire, which was over 20 metres long, simply came to five metres.
Looking around, Paramveer grabbed the laboratory stand that was sitting idly on a shelf, used a thread, and tied it to the arm. As to what to tie to the end of the arm, he looked around the laboratory and, fortunately, found a screw that was sticking out from a wooden apparatus.
Getting to the wooden apparatus, he was irritated as he could not find the screwdriver. Thankfully, the professor, understanding what he wanted, took out the screwdriver he had kept safe and helped take out the screw.
Paramveer immediately tied the screw to the end of the thread that was hung on the laboratory stand.
Excitement appeared in his eyes as he quickly stood the stand flat against the wall with the screw touching the wall.
The coiled rod was placed right next to the stand on a wooden block, and the other end, where the battery was connected, was all the way across the room on top of another laboratory counter.
With a smile, Paramveer jumped onto the laboratory counter, used a wooden tool that is usually used to carry beakers to make the copper wires touch each other, and magic happened.
On the other side of the lab, where the laboratory stand was placed, the screw that was tied to the thread, as if attracted by something, came towards the coil floating in the air. And when Paramveer let go of the connection, the screw went back to touching the wall as if what had happened before was simply an illusion.
Ansel’s eyes widened. He understood it was a communication device, a communication device built on the principle of electromagnetism.
“Hahah ”
He immediately fumbled through the drawer, dropping a few books in the process, then finally took out his pen and a piece of empty paper.
“Use Kumar code and communicate something, ” he eagerly urged.
Paramveer was extremely excited as well, so he immediately connected and disconnected the wires in an alternating short pause and a long pause to form the Kumar code.
“W”
“O”
Ansel wrote down one word at a time, and finally, hitting a full stop, he read it out in one go, “Hello world!.”
“Hahah, ” he laughed out happily.
And Paramveer was no different, he was already standing on the table and shouting, “Yes, Yes, Yes!!! ”
