Chapter 1102: Ambush and Retaliation

The Olympics had not concluded yet, as there were still the winter games left to start, but these games were scheduled for November, and now it was still May. There were several months to go, so Vijay was not interested in staying back until snowfall created a suitable arena for the games in northern Greece, so he decided to set off early.

It was only the Europeans who stayed back for longer, all the other countries, along with Vijay, began their return journeys, but Vijay did not take Kavya with him while returning; instead, he asked her to travel with his son and daughter.

Vijay had a foreboding that something was about to happen, so he was not going to take any chances.

This time, he did not travel back to Olympia but directly took a ship from Athens and set off to Alexandria.

The journey was smooth without any hiccups, not that he had expected otherwise. He was not travelling alone, after all, he was accompanied by the Bharatiya Navy stationed in Greece and Israel, and with such a lineup, he would be hard pressed to imagine any European country daring to take action now.

Landing in Alexandria, he took a day’s rest and set off by car to Cairo.

Travelling through the lush and green plantations, as well as agricultural fields growing crops like wheat, rice, and cotton, Vijay felt exceptionally refreshed. Looking at the plantations reminded him of the subcontinent itself, because just like how, without the river Nile, the entirety of Egypt would be arid desert, without the monsoons, the subcontinent would have a desert in the southern part of the country as well.

Just when he was enjoying the scenery, his smile froze, and his heartbeat began to rise. The smile, once frozen, returned to his face again, but this time it carried a faintly sinister edge. “They are here.”

As soon as he uttered the words, his convoy came to a halt, and the royal guards got down from their vehicles and came running, forming a defensive perimeter around his car.

“Your majesty, it looks like an enemy has set up an ambush. Please stay inside while we ascertain the situation,” Kattappa immediately informed and closed the door.

There wasn’t any expression on Vijay’s face.

Apart from his instincts that told him whenever he was closer to danger, he had already anticipated that he would be ambushed somewhere in Egypt, after all, unlike Israel, where the entire border is patrolled, protected, Egypt, a land connecting Africa, is simply too easy to penetrate, not to mention he had given several months for the assailants to travel.

Since he already knew, he obviously made preparations as well. Without hesitation, he flicked the lighter and lit the fuse that was right on the roof of his car. In a split second, the wick burned, and a firework went hurtling into the air.

‘Boom!!’

A gigantic multicoloured firework exploded, attracting the attention of everyone. Kattappa, looking at it, was overjoyed, his majesty was prepared, that means he only had to defend the position until his majesty’s plan is set into motion.

Thinking of this, he looked at the guards and shouted,

“Fortify the perimeter”

The guards acted immediately and started to unload the bundle of empty bags they carried in the car in case of emergency. Thankfully it was finally put into good use. While the royal guards at the forward position handled the defence and counterfire, the guards at the back dug up the wet paddysoil and started to build a miniature fortress.

However, at this time Vijay got down from the car and looked around. The enemy was unloading the ammunition from all three sides, leaving only the left without any danger. But Vijay knew that this was not a mistake but a deliberate attempt by the enemy to guide him in that direction. If his guess is right the terrain there is much more punishing on him than to the enemy. It might push him into a situation of only being a single way out.

In the end, following his instincts, he ordered for the royal guards to retreat to the left.

“But your majesty…” Kattappa was hesitant. What the emperor could see he could see as well. Taking the left is more likely to be a dead end. However, to his dismay his majesty the emperor reasserted his orders, this time with more command, “Just do it”.

In the end Kattappa gritted his teeth and ordered the royal guards to fall back while they were in the middle of constructing the defensive fortifications.

The car had to be left behind because to the left was a paddy field where a car couldn’t run. Though it was not all too bad since the convoy still provided some defence to Vijay and his guards who were retreating.

Douglas II, looking at the retreating Bharatiya Emperor, should have been very happy since everything was going according to his plan. But remembering the firework that was fired at the beginning of the attack, he was feeling uneasy.

“Advance forward.”

In order to be safe, when the operation began, they only ambushed the convoy of the Bharatiya Emperor from a distance and that too behind cover. But now that they were marching forward, they did not hold back, and threw dozens of frag grenades at the convoy in order to make sure that there wasn’t a trap set up for them.

After all, there hasn’t been anyone who was able to defeat the Bharatiya Emperor, so they were highly cautious.

“Bang!”

Explosions happened one after another, and the beautiful cars were all blown to smithereens. Thankfully there were no booby traps or anything similar that had stopped them.

Douglas II was a little relieved, but not as much as the others, and still motioned to advance carefully, lest they get planted in the gutter.

Although the weapons technology of Europe did not catch up with the Bharatiya Empire, they had come a long way from where they were before, they had their indigenously made rifles, frag grenades, and even the smaller hand cannons.

So throughout their march they bombarded anything in the front in order to be careful, they were packed with ammunition in quantities much more than necessary. For the king, it did not matter how much money had to be spent, ending the life of the Bharatiya Emperor Vijay Diwaraya was something that cannot be bought with money.

“Enemy ahead.”

A subordinate shouted as he took aim at a direction and fired. Douglas immediately turned towards the place where everyone were aiming and squinted his eyes to see a big silhouette of red, the uniform of the Bharatiya Royal Guards.

“Position the artillery and start the bombardment.”

Soon the sounds of the artillery rang out, and the worry in Douglas’s heart began to fade away. He now believed the firework was only to call for assistance from the army, but it was futile, he already knew the position of the Bharatiya Army, and it would take at least a few hours for them to reach their spot. By that time the work would have been done.

Thinking about the Noble title and all the riches he would be getting, a smile slowly etched on his face.

He did not think the plan would be so successful. Despite all the planning he was half hoping that a lot of lives would be lost, after all, it was the emperor of the Bharatiya Empire they were going up against. It looked like the reputation of the undefeatable emperor is a little exaggerated.

“Bang!”

A gunshot was heard, and this immediately wiped off the smirk on Douglas’s face, because this gunshot did not come from the front where the emperor of the Bharatiya Empire and the royal guards were blocked in a dead end, but from the rear.

As he turned around, his body trembled and his eyes widened.

“Oh Jesus!”

He drew a cross as he was horrified, thousands of soldiers, all dressed in camouflage, had got up from the paddy fields, muddy water dripping from their clothes.

“Quick, take defensive measures!” he cried out in desperation.

He immediately understood that it was not the Bharatiya Emperor that fell into his trap, but he was the one that fell into the trap of the Bharatiya Emperor.

The firepower of the Bharatiya Marines was unprecedented, equipped with the Ashva Teer repeating rifle that could unload bullets continuously, the 5th-generation Shikari C 60 long-range sniper rifle, the Vajra Kundala mortar, and even the prototype Chakra Shakti Machine Gun modelled after the Gatling gun, their arsenal was immense.

“Brrrrr!”

No matter how they tried to hide, within 10 seconds the assassins had turned into a blood mesh in front of the absolute firepower suppression ability of the Chakra Shakti.

Even if they tried to take cover under the paddy water surface, it did not help, as the sharpshooters equipped with Pillai optic scopes were like eagles in the sky, eliminating each and every target with precision.

Those who tried to hide behind the trench used for water circulation did not survive either, since the Vajra Kundala mortar fell right into the water, blasting their bodies apart along with the water, making it explode like a fountain.

Everything happened too quickly, and Douglas, before he could wave the white flag to surrender, a bullet hit him from behind, and he lost consciousness.

The entire situation reversed within less than a minute, which took the royal guards by surprise, but they were ultimately overjoyed and roared and laughed happily, waving the saffron flag as the sign of victory.
