Capítulo 370: You’ve Put Us In A World Of Trouble, Lith!

Less than 36 hours after Cero and Roka left Wor, the Syndicate comes knocking at Raya’s door.

While this was slightly worrying, Raya knew that the Prime Minister keeping away the Syndicate Officers from the crewmates that took part in the Tsero Crystal retrieval mission for so long was already a miracle.

The Prime Minister had kept them at bay for as long as he could, managing to buy Cero enough time to leave.

Raya knew precisely why they had come see her and why they would come see the other crewmates despite the reports she and Roka had filled about the mission.

The reports explained every step of the mission, and were made to be as cohesive as possible while completely omitting the presence and existence of both Cero and Lith.

This obviously meant that they had created false reports and documents, but the Prime Minister reassured them that there was no way for the Syndicate to figure that out.

The reports and documents sent to Wor’s government and to the Syndicate were the same after all.

‘We knew that the mission had a success rate of basically 0%, but despair and hope pushed us towards it. The people of Wor have accepted the miracle with open arms, but the Syndicate do not. They don’t see it as a miracle, but as a mistake. They see our success as an error, as something having gone wrong.’

Now that the Syndicate Officers could roam freely, Raya knew she couldn’t go back to her secret laboratory for a while. Different officers would probably be following her every move now, spying on her activities and whereabouts.

‘Thankfully I made it so our test subjects get fed without manual input.’

“What can we do for you?” Rina asked as she shielded her sister by standing between them.

The Syndicate officers exchanged a glance.

“Well…” Kow Bjorn started, but was quickly interrupted by his comrade.

“It’s such an honor to meet you, Miss Raya Fein!” Fran Ducci was almost shouting. “You’ve truly done something amazing for our people! Thank you! Thank you so much!” He bowed repeatedly with the widest smile on his face.

Rina momentarily turned towards her sister with a suspicious look.

Raya shrugged. ‘He’s been like this since I opened the door.’

“Please try to be more professional, Officer Ducci.” Kow Bjorn said sternly. “We’re meeting a hero, but we should still act with a certain amount of decorum and poise.”

“Ah… Oh… Yes…”

With her sister standing in front of her, Raya could stare freely.

‘They brought a fellow countryman to butter me up. He’s been praising me from the moment I opened the door. The other, Kow Bjorn, is here to keep his ears open. He already has a notepad in hand. Wonder where he’s from.’

Raya thought that Kow Bjorn was an odd fellow.

Mostly because he had two pairs of eyes, long ears that curled downwards, and additional limbs growing from his ribcage.

‘In the past, I would have thought of him as something completely different.’ Raya sighed internally. ‘After having seen Graniliths, I’d like to test his blood as well.’

There were two reasons why so many Syndicate Officers were in Wor.

The first was that something impossible had happened, so they had to investigate. It’s always bad when strange and impossible things happen. Things should go as they should. As the Syndicate thinks they should. For the good of the Intergalactic Federation Of The United Living, and for the good of the hundreds of civilizations part of the Union.

The second reason was one kept secret from the Prime Minister, as well as from different members who had been part of the mission.

“You recognized our badges right away.” Kow Bjorn said, peeking beyond Rina. “I hope my fellow Officers haven’t given you trouble in the past.”

Rina wasn’t aware of it either.

Nor were Kris, Al, Bak, Jay, or even Liz.

The secret was kept between those present at the time, namely Cero, Roka, Rea, Raya… And Lith.

“Movies and TV shows show those exact ones, so…” Raya shrugged.

“Right.” Kow Bjorn coughed. “In that case, allow me to prove our badges’ authenticity before we go any further.”

“Please do.” Rina nodded.

Hidden behind her sister, Raya pulled on her collar, finding the situation more stressful than she had expected.

‘I’m in trouble. Real, real trouble.’ She took a deep breath to calm herself. ‘As long as I play this correctly, we’ll be fine. Liz doesn’t know, so she’s the safest. Roka and Cero aren’t here. Only Rea and I…’

Her lips twitched nervously as anxiety mixed with excitement.

‘As long as we play this right, we’ll get away with it. We’ll get away…’

Gulp-

‘With murder.’

“See?”

“Right.” Rina nodded, and Raya stepped closer.

She could feel her heart beating in her throat as she leaned forward to examine the badge and the various documents presented to her.

“I hope this is enough proof.” Kow Bjorn said. “I suggest we get to it. We don’t want to take too much of your time.”

Raya stared at him momentarily, fighting the urge to gulp.

Two Syndicate Officers had been murdered.

Two Syndicate Officers who held the same badge and wore the same uniform as those standing in front of her.

‘Can we really get away with it? With the murder of two Syndicate Officers?’

Two months before the crewmates’ arrival on Wor, a certain incident had led to certain information being spread to certain Officers.

‘It was fine before when the Prime Minister was keeping them away, but I can seriously feel the heat right now!!’

Raya stepped back, and Rina gestured for the two Syndicate Officers to take a seat on one of the laboratory’s sofas.

“Refreshments?” Rina offered.

It wasn’t the most polite way of offering, but the fact that she was offering refreshments met Kow Bjorn’s minimal requirements for politeness.

Raya took a seat on the other side of the coffee table.

Her hands were practically shaking, something that Rina noticed right away. She smoothly put a cup into those hands, keeping their shuddering from being noticed.

‘You’ve really done it,’ Raya thought as she stared at her reflection in the cup. ‘You’ve put us in a world of trouble, Lith!’
