Chapter 451: Victim to Tsar’s insanity
“Sylvia, you can’t be serious,” Aiden said, closing the distance between them.
“Do you think I’m joking?” Sylvia shot back, her eyes blazing. “The pain Tsar caused… it won’t disappear unless he’s dead. And who knows, he could come after me next. He deliberately targeted Lucius’s mother. Think about that.”
Aiden’s jaw tightened as he absorbed her words. He nodded slowly, acknowledging the danger she meant.
“So… are you going to give me a gun, or not?” Sylvia pressed, almost daring him.
“Absolutely not, Sylvia,” Aiden replied firmly, taking a step closer. “I won’t let your hands be stained with blood. Your brother wouldn’t want that for you either.” His hands gently rested on her shoulders.
“We’ll catch him before he can target another innocent,” Aiden said firmly.
Sylvia’s gaze softened slightly, worry still lingering in her eyes. “And what about Layla? Is she alright? Being pregnant and having all these troubles thrown her way… it can’t be easy.”
“I haven’t met her yet,” Aiden admitted, carrying a hint of concern.
“Why didn’t you go with Lucius?” Sylvia asked, concern lacing her voice.
“Roderick went. It’s a personal family matter,” Aiden explained calmly. “That’s why Roger and I decided not to accompany him.”
“I hope everything turns out well soon,” Sylvia murmured. “Lucius has already suffered so much, and so has Layla. Let’s visit Layla this evening. I don’t know how she sees me now, but she needs people around her. Tsar dared to threaten her because it hurt his ego, he couldn’t stand that a woman like Layla shattered his and his father’s empire while Lucius had bowed to them.”
Aiden nodded, though silently he agreed with every word. “You should take some rest,” he suggested gently.
“Where are you going?” she asked, holding his hand this time.
“To Layla’s home. I need to check the security there,” he replied.
“I’m coming with you,” Sylvia insisted. “Give me a moment to freshen up, and then we’ll leave together.”
He opened his mouth to refuse, but he knew Sylvia wouldn’t back down. Besides, taking her along posed no real problem.

As all the formalities at the hospital were concluded, Eveline’s body was finally returned to her family. The funeral procession began, and her delicate frame was laid to rest in a casket, draped in white. Lucius approached slowly, his gaze fixed on the lifeless form of his mother.
His fists clenched at his sides, the memory of their last meeting stabbing at him. ‘I didn’t mean those words…’
The white flower in his hand trembled almost out of his grasp as his hands shook. Eveline had always carried herself with elegance; even in the rare moments they had shared, she had seemed calm, poised, and untouchable.
Lucius took a step back, a deep ache spreading through his chest, as if a part of him had been ripped away. ‘Why does this hurt so much? I was never close to her. I barely knew her… yet it feels like I’ve lost something irreplaceable.’
The thought that she would never wake up already began suffocating him. He felt a strange tightness in his chest, yet again he was unable to show those emotions.
“Uncle,” Roderick whispered gently, pulling him back into reality.
Lucius’s eyes swept over the gathering faces etched with grief and pain. George clutched his daughter, his sobs trembling through him as he had lost his beloved forever.
Slowly, Lucius rested the white flower on his mother’s chest. A vow formed in the silence of his heart: ‘I will kill Tsar. You told me to stay away from the mafia, but it seems fate has led me to this path. Unless I soil my own hands, this won’t end. I’m sorry for always being stubborn, for being a disobedient son. I hope you can forgive me, Mother, and finally rest in peace.’
As he stepped back, the casket was closed. Just then, a gentle rain began to fall, droplets striking the earth and the grieving crowd. Umbrellas popped open, shielding those around him from the downpour.
Roderick accepted the umbrella offered to him, but Lucius remained exposed to the rain, letting it soak him through. He didn’t move, didn’t speak. He simply stood, drenched, eyes fixed on the casket as the soil slowly swallowed it, covering the last piece of his mother from sight.
Roderick gently placed the umbrella over Lucius, shielding him from the steady downpour.
One by one, the mourners began to leave, offering their prayers and farewells.
“We should go,” Zade said.
“I’m not coming with you,” Lucius replied, his gaze fixed on the freshly covered grave. “Roderick and I will return to Italy soon. You should take your father and siblings back.”
Zade didn’t argue. With a solemn nod, he turned and walked away, leaving only Lucius and Roderick standing together in the gentle drizzle.
Just then, Lucius’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and pressed it to his ear.
“Lucius, I’ve found Tsar,” Luca’s voice was sharp, urgent. “He’s attempting to escape via the sea route. You mentioned your stepfather’s house is near the coast, so it might take me a little time to get there. You need to move fast, before anyone else intercepts him. And Lucius… don’t kill him. You’re not supposed to kill him.”
Lucius’s grip tightened on the phone, his eyes burning with fury and the thirst for vengeance. “Give me the exact location of the seaport where Tsar is,” he demanded.
“I’m sending you the location,” Luca said. After a moment’s pause, he continued, “Check your message inbox. I’ll be there soon. Just keep him engaged. He must have other people, too, who are helping him, so don’t expose yourself to them.”
Lucius ended the call, not giving Luca any certainty of what he would do now.
“Uncle, what happened?” Roderick asked with a worried tone.
“Go to a hotel. I’ll see you later at night,” Lucius said, already began walking in the open rain.
“Uncle, don’t go alone anywhere. Take me with you,” Roderick insisted.
Lucius halted and turned to look at him. “I don’t want anyone else to fall victim to Tsar’s insanity. Do what I’ve told you if you truly trust me. And don’t speak a word to anyone, Rick. I’ll return soon,” he promised before walking away.
