Chapter 428: Planned on falling in love

Aiden grabbed his blazer and slipped it on, glancing at the watch. He was already an hour late for his date with Sylvia. “I really hope she doesn’t yell at me,” he muttered under his breath, hurriedly collecting his wallet, phone, and keys.

Rushing down to the parking lot, he unlocked his car and slid into the driver’s seat, starting the engine with a frustrated sigh.

However, because of the bad traffic, he arrived at the restaurant an hour late. He hurried to the third floor and spotted Sylvia on a table, sitting alone, watching outside the large floor-to-ceiling window.

“Sylvia, sorry for being late,” Aiden said while gasping.

She turned her head to look at him. Aiden pulled up the chair and sat on it. “You should have ordered something,” he whispered, grabbing the glass of water.

“I wanted to wait for you,” Sylvia replied, her gaze softening. Just then, a waiter approached them with the menu in his hand. Sylvia thanked him and scanned the items on the menu.

“What would you like to order?” Sylvia put the menu on the table, moving it to Aiden, asking his opinion.

“You should order of your choice. I’ll like it as well,” Aiden stated, sliding back the menu to her.

Sylvia smiled and she gave the orders to the waiter, who jotted them on a tiny notepad.

“What would you like to drink with it?” The waiter politely asked.

“Red wine,” Aiden replied.

The waiter excused himself, telling them it might take five to ten minutes for their order to be prepared.

As he walked away, Sylvia focused her attention on Aiden.

“Since Roger can’t join the work for a while, I decided to do his work too. That’s why I got late,” Aiden explained.

“You don’t need to explain. I understand,” Sylvia said.

“I thought you would scold me,” Aiden remarked. Seeing the serious expression on Sylvia’s face, he wondered if his comment upset her.

“I don’t want to be the person I used to,” Sylvia replied. Then, she leaned to the other chair and put her hand inside her shoulder bag. “I bought something for you,” she added and took out a gift box.

Aiden curiously looked at her, wondering what it could be.

“Here. Open it,” Sylvia said.

Aiden grabbed it and opened the gift box.

“It’s an eco-friendly wallet,” Sylvia explained. “I’m going to launch the product soon, but I wanted the very first one to go to you. I hope you like it.”

Aiden looked at her, touched by the gesture Sylvia had shown toward him. His heart fluttered and he lifted the wallet. The texture was smooth and warm, even the appearance was classy.

“Thank you for this sweet gift,” Aiden said, his fingers tracing the material with admiration. “I’m definitely going to use it.”

“You like it?” Sylvia asked, raising a curious brow, feeling nervous at the same time.

“Of course I do!” Aiden replied enthusiastically. Then, narrowing his eyes slightly. “Wait… did you make this yourself? I can see the initial of my name imprinted here.”

He gently brushed his thumb over the subtle mark, a small smile tugging at his lips.

Sylvia blinked, clearly caught off guard. “How did you notice that?” she asked, surprised.

Aiden looked up at her. “Well, I’ve sharp gaze. Thank you for making it personally for me,” he stated, smiling.

He was swift to change his old wallet with this new one and put it back into his back. Just then, the waiter arrived and laid the dishes before them. He poured the wine in two glasses and walked away.

In the dim light of the restaurant, they enjoyed the dinner while talking and laughing with each other. It was the first time Sylvia had truly enjoyed yourself, laughing so freely. The same went for Aiden, who would always remain serious in any situation.

After finishing their meal, they stepped out of the restaurant into the warm night. But instead of heading straight home, they took a turn into the winding cobbled streets, choosing to roam a little longer.

“You must be tired. Let’s go home,” Sylvia said gently, pausing beneath a glowing lantern. The narrow street was draped in blooming jasmine and bougainvillea, their fragrance mixing with the faint melody of distant street music.

“I’m not tired,” Aiden replied, reaching out to clasp her hand. “Are you?”

She shook her head, smiling softly. “No. I left work early today.”

“Then let’s walk a bit more,” he murmured, drawing her closer.

Their faces neared, noses nearly touching as they stood under the lantern’s golden light. The night around them seemed to pause in that moment.

Sylvia, who rarely felt shy, suddenly felt a warmth bloom in her cheeks. She bit her bottom lip and took a tiny step back, looking away.

Aiden caught the flush on her face and smiled, his fingers naturally intertwining with hers. As they began to walk again, his heart raced with an unfamiliar rhythm.

He remembered all the times he’d distanced himself from Sylvia, how he’d avoided her. Yet now, here he was, walking beside her beneath the night sky, holding her hand like he’d never want to let go.

He hadn’t planned on falling in love. But tonight, it felt like love had quietly found him anyway and the woman whom he began liking, was Sylvia, who was a troublemaker in his eyes.

As they both stopped by the flowing stream’s side, Sylvia began, “Did you tell the others that we have started dating?”

“You want to keep it hidden?” Aiden arched his eyebrow.

“No. It’s just I am not sure how they will react,” Sylvia said. “They all know me too well,” he murmured.

“No one knows you more than me,” Aiden corrected her. “And I’m sure everyone is going to be happy. For now, I’ve not revealed it to anyone specifically,” he stated. “But if you want me to keep it a secret, I can.”

“No, don’t keep it a secret. You can tell the people who are close to you,” Sylvia said. She looked at the other side from where she could hear the gentle melody of the music.

“Sylvia,” Aiden called her name.

“Yes?” She turned her head only to be shocked as Aiden’s lips connected with hers.
