Chapter 662: Father Dietrich thoughts (2)

Matthew frowned. “What makes you think that, Father? Why do you think the world could change?” he asked.

His father sighed. “Looking back in time, we have always discovered that there had to be a beginning to existence. To life. Now we know that the thing from which you inherit a legacy, the Origin, is what started us. But then I ask you, has any other civilization existed before ours?”

“None.” Matthew’s answer was immediate; it was common knowledge.

Many people have tried to travel to different worlds in search of other races, civilizations, or at least some other form of life, but there is nothing. It is strange. The world seems to have nothing out there. There is only life in this corner of the universe, and the rest is just a bunch of stars, galaxies, and planets.

Why was that?

His father nodded.

“Indeed. It is likely that we alone are the beginning of this chaos called the universe. We look around and see no other civilization; we try to dig into the ground in search of ruins, and even if we find them, they all belong to a past that I have already lived. There are no ruins before me.”

They were the first and, so far, only civilization to have ever existed in the universe, at least as far as they have been able to investigate.

And when they say “they,” they mean vampires, humans, the Sun Clan, other races, the Eternals, and their troops…

“If we are the first civilization, it means that the world is actually only in its early years. We will never know how long the universe can live, we don’t even know if it can die, much less do we know exactly what it is or how big it is, but it is thanks to that that I have been able to understand that, perhaps, the world is about to change.”

“It’s not just any change,” he recalled. “It may be the most radical change we’ve ever seen. New races, new clans, new ways of controlling power could emerge… Perhaps the system itself will change radically, since we are only at the beginning.”

So, when he spoke to his father, that’s how it was, and now that he remembered his words, that’s how it was.

Now he had lived in a land with a different history. Before the arrival of certain people nicknamed “Emperors,” magic did not exist. There were no powers, only advanced science, which brought back memories buried underground of lost civilizations.

Where was that place?

How far was it from this world/galaxy? In what direction was it? And how were they born?

According to research from Earth, the universe is immense. Science mentions ages over 13 billion years for the universe, which presents distances in light-years.

But then, if they were at the beginning of the universe, did that mean he had traveled through time to a future where the earth existed and had given life?

On Earth, distances measured in light-years were practically impossible to cross, but it is possible to travel at such speeds in this world. His father could do it. In fact, he could have done it in the past and even exceeded those speeds enormously, and his father was a great example.

One of his father’s greatest feats when he was alive was chasing a huge universal beast into a black hole and pulling it out, exceeding absurd speeds.

He wasn’t the only one who could travel at such speeds; in the Dietrich Clan, the vast majority of the elders could, too.

What was impossible to do on Earth was completely possible here, and that was due to the enormous sources of energy that the powerful have (some are even unlimited, like that of the eternals).

So if his soul traveled at speeds faster than the speed of light, it could perfectly well travel through time, according to certain hypotheses on Earth. He remembered the mention of certain tachyons, hypothetical particles that could travel through time, although he thought they were for traveling into the past.

Now, the people on Earth said that it was impossible for there to be infinite energy sources, so powering travel at those ridiculous speeds was practically impossible, but this world did not reveal that. In this world, the infinite energy source was real. And there was no way that Earth could be in another universe, because the existence of the Emperors was not unknown to this world.

They originally belonged to the races of this place, living in a galaxy some distance from here. In fact, he knows this very well because it was his father who gave that galaxy to those guys. Among them are vampires, humans, and other races that coexist naturally there and govern their own territories and conflicts, having completely detached themselves from this civilization to found their own, but with their roots here.

They were the ones who invaded Earth at the time he lived there, so technically, that land couldn’t be too far away…

As he was lost in deep thought, he realized he had more questions than answers. At that moment, he began to long even more for his father to be alive. Perhaps he could give him answers to things that were currently beyond his knowledge.

After all, his father had lived a long life and had explored much of the universe.

Questions about time travel seemed to be the least of his concerns. He even wondered if there were other universes, as had been theorized on Earth, but right now, he had no idea.

Perhaps, as his father had said, the transition to the new era could bring great changes to the world. Maybe then he would know.

The problem was living to see that change.

He sighed visibly. ‘Forget it. I don’t have to worry about a future I won’t even be in. I’ll get revenge and avenge their deaths, so whatever happens or doesn’t happen won’t be my problem. The instigator of Eras? Ha, what nonsense.’ He scoffed and took a step forward without looking where he was going.

He looked down and saw bulging eye sockets with a hideous face that seemed to be staring at him.

It disgusted him, so he simply kicked it out of his sight.

The world of war was coming to an end.
