Chapter 637: The reason
“What my informants have told me…” One of them spoke up, specifying that they were informants, not so reliable. “Is that there is a large number of troops coming up from the capital to the edge of the mountain, coming from the church.”
“From the church? Impossible!” Shouted another of them, jumping into the conversation. “My informants told me they came from the governorates!”
He was angry, but the one who had spoken first nodded.
“I agree with you. He also told me they came from there. But, from the Church, there is no doubt.”
“Are you saying that the Church has betrayed us!? Why then would they send a Pillar with us!?” Furious, he looked at a man sitting silently to one side of them, wearing distinguished vestments.
“Sir…” he tried to speak, but he silenced him with a gesture, as he looked at the first man who had spoken.
Everyone thought it was the end of that good-natured minister. If he upset a pillar, he would be finished without turning back.
“From the Church, you said?” he asked. His voice sounded dangerous.
At that, the old minister frowned, but nodded. “Sir, that’s what the informant told me. They also come from the governorates, but according to sources…”
“I hear you; you don’t need to get so worked up about it, ” he said, stopping him from speaking and looking at the King. “Has anyone from the Central City answered you?” he asked.
He shook his head. “Sir, is it really the Church?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Then…?”
“But it may be. I have sensed that many of those who are killing our soldiers out there belong to the Church forces.”
“What’s going on?”
El Pilar frowned and stood up. “When someone attacks us, what should we do?” he asked.
“Defend ourselves.” The King replied.
“Then it’s time to defend ourselves.”
“But…” The King tried to say it was the Church, but the Pillar shrugged.
“The Church I know would never attack like that. If traitors are not orchestrating it, I’ll stick my neck out that this is the work of Matthew Dietrich.”
“Oh? Why him?”
“Many questions, King.” The Pillar shot him a stern look. “You defend yourself or you die. Your choice.” After saying so, he turned to leave.
But suddenly…
He could not move.
The King and the ministers planned to get up to tell him they would be with him, but they couldn’t move either.
They were all paralyzed.
Then…
“Hehehe.” A woman’s smile echoed from every corner of the room, before focusing on a single point: the front door.
They hadn’t noticed it before, but the door had been open for a while now, and a woman was listening intently to everything.
“The leaders of this nation seem to be a little desperate. Do they want me to open their eyes about what happened?” Charlotte began to walk into the room slowly and past them all.
They were shocked to see the identity of the person attacking them: a human.
How did she have so much power to hold them all simultaneously? What kind of ability was she using? Who was she?
Numerous questions crossed the minds of those present, trying to understand what was going on, in panic.
Only one of them frowned.
The Pillar.
‘Human… and the ability to hold even us back.’ He thought. ‘Could it be that woman? What is she doing here? Why are humans getting into this?’
She walked past him and walked to an empty chair. She planned to sit down, but in the meantime, her mouth opened to speak.
“The Mountain Capital has committed treason against the Central City of the World. They gave Jack Allen to Matthew Dietrich out of fear and have traded hostages for a profit of their own, not for the good of the race. How about that story?” She looked at them, smiling.
“Impossible!” One of them shouted. “Why the hell would we ally ourselves with that bastard who wants to exterminate us? We’re not idiots!”
“Right, Central City and its leaders would never believe that story!”
“Hahaha, they don’t need to believe it. We don’t care if they believe it.” She replied.
So what did she want? They all thought, who was it?
The Pillar frowned. No… what she was saying was not what had been reported to Central City.
She was simply telling them her side of the story—the side of the story of the one who had instigated all this.
But why would they believe a human? What did she do?
“Who are you?” he asked, as he tried to move with all his might.
It was the first time something had chained him so that even trying with all his might, he couldn’t get unchained. Still, he didn’t stop trying.
Charlotte looked at him, but didn’t answer. She kept walking and soon went to sit in the chair.
“She’s my wife, of course.” Matthew’s voice echoed in the room as she “sat down” in the chair.
Actually, she had sat on his lap.
From the beginning, he had been there, listening intently to everything.
As soon as she arrived, Matthew smiled and hugged Charlotte’s waist.
“How’s it going? Don’t we look good? The greatest of Vampires united in marriage with the greatest of humans. How glorious will that sound in the future, when everyone finds out?”
The Pillar, the King, and all present shuddered at his words and his appearance.
“Matthew Dietrich!” They exclaimed with a slight pressure rising through their bodies.
“What the hell are you doing here, you damned traitor!?” The King and his ministers tried to attack him as soon as they saw him appear, but neither could even move a portion of his body.
Meanwhile, the Pillar still raised his arm to signal them to be silent slowly.
“Oh. He can move.” Smiled Matthew. “Not for nothing are you a New Age Pillar.” He teased.
But the Pillar gave his sarcastic tone short shrift.
“Everything that’s happened is because of you, isn’t it? You lied to all the Church members and governors to make them believe that the Mountain Capital had betrayed them.”
“Obvious.” Matthew shrugged. “It was very easy to fool those people. I must say, the Church is very good at training people; they’ve done wonderfully.”
“But, that doesn’t make sense. Without orders from headquarters, without truthful people giving that information…”
“There are.” Matthew interrupted. “All the Bishops and the Archbishop are good at this. I must say I’m in awe of it.” He smiled.
The Pillar shuddered. “You…”
