Chapter 634: Zimmermann Kingdom
Roy was no fool. He knew that continuing this war with the position they were in was terrible. Besides, there weren’t many strategists around; continuing this battle for them would be wearing, and they might lose if they played the cards wrong.
Sophia and her group had already given them a spoonful of this medicine, so they needed to retreat.
Also…
‘I don’t see Matthew Dietrich anywhere. Could he be hiding?’ Roy had been looking for traces of Matthew all along.
He knew a little about the man’s identity. He was to die as soon as possible, but they also had to be very careful with him, because every death of one of their own would make him grow stronger at an alarming and ridiculous rate.
But, being that he was not around, they could retreat.
And that was what Roy ordered as soon as he could.
Both groups had reason to retreat and did not hesitate to do so. This ended in a resounding, but temporary, sung victory for Murphy’s group, which was now fully reinforced and more powerful than it once was with the arrival of so many powerful people.
But, the question in the air was: Where is Matthew Dietrich?
–
In the streets of the cities of the Zimmermann Kingdom, the cool breeze from the trees hit the skin of every passerby, fluttering their hair and carrying dry leaves back and forth.
The streets were paved and adorned at every corner with lamps that illuminated as they passed, giving a medieval city an exquisite touch.
In recent years, the Vampire World has advanced slightly towards a more modern society, which facilitates the sending of information, mobilization, and the construction of cities with extraordinary architecture.
That, in part, has destroyed many trees and wildlife, but it is being kept at a controlled level, as they do not want to advance it to places that are impossible to reverse.
They are not going to make the mistake that humans have made with their Empire, where, in the last 5 years, they have destroyed many trees that now make them warmer than they should be in a world with night permanence.
And that has made the architecture of the cities, some inspired by the Divine City, begin to make sense. Architects have improved their skills over the years and have begun to restructure previously meaningless cities, such as the Academic City, into authentic fortresses filled with new technology.
The most advanced in this aspect is still the Blacksmith Kingdom, although with the war that started in recent months and the restructuring that has been going on for more than a year, many things have slowed down, and, therefore, some reconstructions are at a standstill.
But the Zimmermann Kingdom is completely different from the rest.
Everyone wants their cities to retain the architecture that characterizes them, from the poorest to the richest, where trees make the towns come alive. Where the fauna is part of the existence, and where every small animal is vital for the subsistence of the kingdom.
Even with the arrival of the Pillar Clans, that has not changed.
The cities remain medieval. Horse and other animal characteristics are still widely used here, even though there are now better options. The truth is that for war and everything else, nothing beats a horse and its rider.
Two people, completely covered from head to toe, walked softly through one of the great cities of Zimmermann’s Kingdom, admiring the architecture and additions, which created a strange drama between the dark beauty and the intensity of the artificial luminosity.
“It reminds me of the medieval fantasy cities of Earth.” Charlotte said.
Matthew nodded, agreeing with her.
“Yes. Several memories come to mind of the stories before the portals came.”
“I hadn’t seen this kingdom all the time I’ve been here. But I must say, it is the most beautiful of them all. Although the place where the Devourers are isn’t bad either.”
“Well, this would be my fourth kingdom visited so far, and one of them I visited to destroy, so I don’t know much about it. What’s it like where the Devourers live?”
“It is an oval-shaped mountain range connected by suspension bridges. In the middle is a large lake. They keep it thawed with magic. It’s a beautiful resort, which no one goes to because they don’t allow strangers in.”
Matthew could almost picture what it was like. “Sounds like a beautiful landscape.”
She smiled. “It is.”
Then their voices were interrupted by the neighing of horses emerging from one end of the street and racing fiercely across it, as if they were at war.
The people’s shouting also interrupted the peaceful moment the two were enjoying, so they had to step aside.
Those horses, along with their riders and important people, passed by them with intense ferocity.
They were heading for the city’s center, or so it seemed. The reality was different.
In the Zimmermann Kingdom, four more Capitals surround the Capital, the Four Cities at the foot of the Capital Mountain. Currently, they were both in one of these four capitals.
If they were running at that speed and traversing this ostentatious road, they were heading to the Royal Capital, the Capital Mountain.
After watching those carriages and horses speeding by, the two resumed their journey.
“The four capitals look very peaceful, but it seems like the movements are getting increasingly rampant. Do you think they are preparing for something?” Charlotte asked. It wasn’t the first time they’d seen a scene like that.
Matthew nodded.
“From what we’ve heard, the Mountain Capital City seems to be gearing up for something. Going by what we discovered in the previous city, maybe it’s some strange ritual.”
“But there’s still something weird.”
“What is it?” Matthew looked at her, confused.
“How did they cross Vampire Limbo? With a ritual?” She asked.
He then nodded slightly. She was right.
Technically, from what they had understood these past few weeks, they shouldn’t be able to cross something like Vampire Limbo.
That meant there was something they didn’t know about, happening.
They couldn’t rule out that something was some kind of ritual, although that would be very strange, since why did it take them so long to do it or use it?
Matthew had to sigh. “Well, let’s keep implanting this little seed. I guess we’ll find out when we decide to go to the Mountain Capital.” He spoke.
After a long walk, they arrived in front of a slightly cloaked mansion in the center of town.
It was beautiful and had nice arrangements, but it felt lonely.
They both approached the front door and rang the bell.
The door opened seconds later, and a stout man with a perfectly trimmed beard and a distinguished appearance, wearing expensive clothes, showed himself.
Behind him were two others, and with the appearance of all of them, four people appeared from behind Matthew.
They were quite powerful and hid their aura very well, but it was impossible to hide from Matthew or Charlotte.
He smiled.
“Greetings, Mr. Governor. Don’t be alarmed; we come to peace with an important message from headquarters.” Matthew, who did not show his face, pulled out a parchment with an important seal as he spoke.
