Capítulo 1270: Nature of Planet Bayla
It took Ryan and Ryen some time to come to terms with all that had just happened.
Recovering from a near-death situation to learn that their saviour was the infamous Kent Madson, whose name had appeared on both the Sword Dao Tablet and the Ice Dao Tablet, was a lot to take in.
Many fakes appeared claiming to be Kent Madson; however, while no one believed them, the handsome dragon before them made them inclined to believe him.
Also looking at the colossal bodies of the strongest beasts they had ever faced, now lying dead, and at Kent smiling at them, they knew this was real. That he is the real deal.
Ryan and Ryen bowed at Kent and thanked him… “Thanks for saving our lives,” Ryan said, and Kent merely nodded.
“No need to thank me. I was just passing by and saw you needed help,” he maintained his smile and asked again, “I hope this planet is called Bayla.”
Ryen nodded and answered, “Yes. This is the Green Rain Forest, just 200,000 km away from the Dark City.”
“Oh, I see. I suppose I will be leaving now,” Kent turned to leave, but Ryan stopped him… “Is there something I can help you with?” Kent asked, turning to face the two siblings.
He pointed at the snake, “Won’t you be taking it with you?”
“Nope. I don’t need it. So you can have it. After all, you came all the way here to hunt it.”
Yet again, the two siblings bowed toward Kent… “In that case, allow us to lead you to the Dark City. That is where we are from.”
“But of course. I could use the company.”
Ryan and his twin sister smiled, and they hastily stored away the colossal body of the snake that nearly killed them. The worst part is they didn’t choose to hunt this snake. They were forced to.
It would have been a regretful death, one that would have haunted them in the underworld.
Soon, they were in the air, flying at speeds several times faster than planes on Earth. Kent deactivated both his wings and horns, but Ryan and Ryen recognised his race from the moment they saw him.
On his neck, there were three layers of cute golden dragon scales. So even a blind man would know he was a dragon. Of course, if Kent tried, he could be a complete human.
However, for some reason, he hated that idea. It made him feel inferior even thinking about it.
As they flew over the Green Rain Forest, Kent noticed no airborne beast in sight. This stirred a memory in his mind…
‘This is the forest I woke up in when the Silent Shadow assassins killed my mom.’ Kent took a deep breath and let his mind wash back to his life as the Faceless Assassin.
From the memories he had recovered so far, he saw what happened to his mother. One day, he was having fun with the other kids, playing all kinds of games, when his mom came and hastily took him away.
They ran and were chased. He was very young back then, but he managed to pick up the appearance of one of the assassins. That assassin was the key he used to kill the entire Silent Shadow assassins when he came back years later.
His mom hid him in a cave and transferred the [Faceless Art] to him. From all he could remember, his mom kissed his forehead and told him to wait for her, that she would be back.
Billions of years had already passed, but she hadn’t returned, so it was plain as day that she fell to the dagger of the assassins, or she killed herself to destroy the memory of the Faceless Art and the whereabouts of her son.
Faceless, then known as Jaqen, lived in the forest for 30 years, fighting one beast after another. In a way, he grew up around beasts.
His first Face when he cultivated the Faceless Art was a River Wolf.
When he got that form, he finally managed to leave the forest without having to battle all kinds of horrific beasts.
Now, as he flew over it, he could feel the emotions of the past wash over him.
“I learned the Dark Warden family now rules the Dark City.” Kent chose to make it sound as if he had heard it from others. But from what he knew, the Dark City was ruled by the Dark Warden family.
They are a family of assassins.
From what he knew, Planet Bayla was ruled by three families back in the day.
There are the Dark Warden family, who rule the Dark City.
The Kailan Drow family, who rule the Hollow City, and the Gatty family, rulers of the Great Pill City.
It had always been like that for years. The Dark Wardens are assassins, the Kailans are swordsmen, and the Gatty are the alchemists.
Ryen answered… “Yes, however, they are now known as the Assassin Temple. They rebranded 20,000 years ago when the previous patriarch ascended, and his eldest son took over.”
“Oh, sounds like I had outdated information,” Kent chuckled and turned to Ryen. “Care to tell me the structure of Planet Bayla then?”
Ryen nodded and started updating him on all he had to know.
So it turned out, aside from the Dark City now turned upside down by an ambitious leader, the Gattys and the Kailans were still the same. They had the same structure as before. However, they now had strict and shameless rules.
For example, the Gattys had made it so that before one can enter the city, they must pay ten thousand high-grade spirit stones. But even when they entered, the city had been structured into three regions.
Paying ten thousand spirit stones only gets one into the outer region. One needs to pay 1 million spirit stones to enter the inner region and 100 million to enter the core region.
Of course, if the entrant is a Pill King or higher, there is a 50% discount. But that is where it gets weird and shameless.
If an alchemist enters and concocts a pill, they must buy a permit from the Gattys, and when they make a pill, they must sell it inside the city at a 50% discount.
Basically, the Gattys had become money-lovers who would do anything to earn it, even if it meant swindling alchemists.
As for the Kailans, they had adapted over the years and now take into their fold other weapon users besides swordsmen. However, despite that being a low blow to their former strict swordsmen-only rule, they still stuck to their beliefs.
Warriors were treated kindly, while the non-warriors weren’t even spared a glance.
“It is a shit show for sure.” Kent didn’t know how to feel. The world he knew was on the brink of becoming a demented planet. All the people leading it were scums who loved to steal from the poor.
“It is indeed a bad place, but since they are protecting us from the outsiders and the beast invasions, we aren’t too mad at them,” Ryan said with a chuckle.
“I guess you are right.” Kent wasn’t about to get angry and go on a killing spree. If he had nothing better to do, maybe he would have attempted it, but not when he came for something important.
“I suppose you two ending up in the lair of the Metallic Scale Slash Snake had to do with the Assassin Tower,” Kent asked, and the two siblings sighed.
