Capítulo 240: A Yellow Resource Point

By the time they were done, all of them were exhausted. They left the water facility behind.

“Sigh. I can finally breathe fresh air. I thought I was going to suffocate from the stink!” Feng Ran sprawled on the couch inside the RV, freshly bathed.

All of them had taken a bath, including Snowball.

“I never knew a bath could feel this good!” Baoyin joined Feng Ran on the couch.

Nanzhi took out the precooked meals for dinner.

Since it was already night, they couldn’t continue on the road. They returned to the water station, parked the RV, and settled in for the night.

Influenced by what had happened at the water facility, everyone also combed the water station for any signs of mutant frogs. Fortunately, they didn’t find any.

Still, they set up an electrified defense grid around the RV.

Nanzhi gazed at the moon, remembering that she had promised the survivors she would return to set up the jade exchange market tomorrow. She hoped she will be able to gain a lot of spars from this trip.

Morning came without incident. No more mutant frogmen appeared, and everyone had a proper rest.

Nanzhi didn’t return immediately. Instead, she decided to head for the factories—it would be a waste not to go!

When they arrived, traces of battle and abandoned vehicles came into view. Lan Fuyou, his little minion, and Meiying’s son were nowhere to be seen. He must have escaped, leaving the thorn team leader and the rest behind yesterday.

Feng Ran’s expression soured as a familiar stink reached his nose.

Suddenly, Baoyin shouted, “I see it! There are boxes of supplies ahead!”

Everyone lifted their heads and saw neatly stacked boxes of assorted beverages and canned goods beside a forklift.

“There are really supplies!” Feng Ran exclaimed in surprise.

Everyone was excited, but unlike Lan Fuyou and the thorn team leader, who would have rushed in immediately, they remained cautious—especially noticing markings on the ground showing the boxes had just been dragged into place.

Feng Ran stepped back, eyes sweeping the area. There wouldn’t be another one of those shameless mutant frogmen “calling him brother” lurking here, right?

Bingwen, Hei Qian, and Baoyin shared the same thought.

Nanzhi used her mental radar to inspect the surroundings and found mutants lying in ambush—on the factory beams and even inside the boxes. They even knew how to set traps.

How cunning!

She mental strike at the beams and controlled them to the direction of the boxes.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

A beam broke and collapsed. The canned goods and bottles rolled out of the boxes. Amidst the supplies, tiny green creatures hopped around.

Everyone narrowed their eyes.

“Twick! Twick!”

[Parasitic Froglet Tier 1]

[Skills: Water and Acid]

These froglets were roughly the size of a softball. Their front legs were fully formed, back legs slightly underdeveloped but strong enough to hop short distances. Tiny serrated teeth resembled those of piranhas.

“Eek, how hideous.” Feng Ran jolted.

So this is what they looked like after evolving from tadpoles! Nanzhi thought.

The froglets were confused by the falling beams and boxes, but upon seeing new prey, they jumped excitedly and flicked their long tongues. They had no idea these preys were not like the last victims.

Nanzhi raised her hand.

Some froglets burst into green puddles and died instantly.

“Twick! Twick!”

Not done yet—one of the prey raised its hand, releasing a thick lightning bolt in their direction, causing a small explosion. The single bolt killed five!

“Twick! Twick!”

The remaining froglets sensed danger and immediately fled.

“Twick! Twick!”

But Nanzhi wasn’t about to let them go!

They chased down every froglet and finished them off. In the process, they discovered the same trap setups in nearby factories—more froglets lying in ambush, and even carrying tadpoles in their mouths!

These cunning bastards intended to turn Nanzhi’s group into mindless puppets too!

It was clear this wasn’t the first time—the traps were too sophisticated. Perhaps there had been previous victims before Lan Fuyou’s group.

Their suspicions were confirmed when they found bloodied discarded items—clothes, shoes, backpacks—behind one factory that didn’t belong to Lan Fuyou’s group.

Their faces hardened with anger; mercy was out of the question.

“Twick! Twick!”

Once the last froglet was dead, Nanzhi searched for supplies. She avoided anything stained by frog slime. The factories were equipped with high-quality storage facilities, and the undamaged supplies were taken.

They left only after securing all usable items, including machines, which Nanzhi didn’t hesitate to take. The bloodied items were burned, and a proper grave was made for them.

No matter how often they witnessed such horrors, their hearts grew heavy. Could this be why the larger group never returned in her past life? Nanzhi wondered.

No one can answer her question; all she could do was hope that now, with the mutants eliminated, no one else would suffer the same fate.

As they were about to board the vehicle and return to base, Nanzhi spotted something: a yellow pillar of light.

Her eyes lit up.

Resource point!

“Wait!” she called out.

Since they were already here, she needed to harvest the resource point now—otherwise, she wouldn’t have another chance once temperatures rose.

“You’ve seen something?” Weihao guessed her intentions, tracing her line of sight. In the past, this was always how she acted when she found something valuable.

Nanzhi nodded. Weihao has always been supportive of her decisions and agreed to check. The others also had no opinions. They guessed she must have something important to do.

The resource point was about two quarters of a mile away. As they approached, the trail narrowed, making it impossible for their off-road vehicle to pass. They switched to motorcycles to continue.

They advanced along the dirt trail until Nanzhi sensed something approaching—it was not a mutant. She could not feel energy signatures from it.

Soon, a figure appeared in the middle of the path. Nanzhi hit the brakes immediately.

Everyone took a closer look ahead and was able to see an old man, limping slightly.

When the old man saw Nanzhi, his eyes widened in shock.

Nanzhi was also stunned. “Uncle Wang…?”
