Capítulo 238: The Gap was simply too Big

Crack.

Hei Qian and Bingwen could only watch helplessly as the solar panels they had painstakingly uninstalled were smashed to the ground and reduced to junk.

Although the two of them only faced four mutant frogmen, the fight was still difficult because the space they were in was much narrower than where Feng Ran and Baoyin were.

Hei Qian’s sharp marksmanship was at a disadvantage.

The mutant frogmen were agile, and every time he tried to find an opportunity to fire his specialized gun, they found ways to interrupt him, causing him to miss repeatedly.

He hadn’t replenished his specialized bullets, and now there were only two left.

At the beginning, after one of the mutants was hit in the eye and blinded by a bullet, the other became more coordinated. If one attacked, another defended, and vice versa. They even knew how to block his line of sight.

It was a good thing Miss Baoyin had made soft armor for them. It could at least offset some of the attacks.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

Seeing them closing in, Hei Qian quickly dove under a tilted solar panel nearby, narrowly avoiding the incoming water blades.

Crack!

The panel above could not withstand the attack and collapsed.

The battle had gone on for a while, with both sides sustaining injuries. Hei Qian had a shoulder wound after a mutant hurled a metal exhaust pipe at him while his foot was caught on the maintenance walkway.

Although these mutants were more difficult to deal with than those he had encountered before, they were not unbeatable. He was still able to read their attack patterns.

Every time they launched a midair attack, there was a brief opening afterward.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

The two mutants retrieved their tongues and were about to land.

Now!

Seizing the chance, Hei Qian predicted their landing point and kicked broken panels toward them.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

The mutants sneered at his flimsy attempt.

This prey must be making a final, desperate struggle. Their grins widened, turning grotesque.

Kekeke!

But in the next second, they could no longer laugh.

A sharp sound rang out, and one of the mutants collapsed.

The half-blind mutant turned its head, only to see a bullet hole in the other mutant’s head.

“Ribbit?” it croaked, enraged.

It turned out Hei Qian had used the broken solar panel as a distraction!

Its remaining eye turned bloodshot as it pounced toward Hei Qian, releasing spinning water blades.

Hei Qian dodged and rolled beneath another panel.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

I won’t let you get away after killing one of us!

The mutant leapt and yanked a stainless steel water tank, smashing the panel Hei Qian had been hiding under.

The panel shattered instantly, fragments scattering everywhere.

The sweet scent of blood entered its nose. When it spotted a corner of the camouflage uniform beneath the debris, it croaked in delight.

Finally dead!

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

Bang!

A bullet hole appeared in its forehead.

“Kekk!”

The half-blind mutant collapsed lifelessly.

Behind it, Hei Qian—down to his shirt—clutched his injured left arm.

The loud sounds of the fight on the roof reached Bingwen’s ears.

He desperately wanted to shout and ask if Hei Qian was alright, but he feared it might distract him instead.

Each time the sounds rang out, his heart tightened. Countless thoughts raced through his mind.

Yet a small part of him felt relieved—if there were still sounds, it meant Hei Qian was alive.

He had to hurry and help him!

Of all of them, Bingwen was the most unfortunate. Not only was he fighting in a narrow corridor, but he also had to watch out for falling debris.

Crash!

Clang!

Thud!

Bingwen dodged falling panels for the umpteenth time.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

The two mutants closed in, attacking from both front and back.

Like Feng Ran, Bingwen found these creatures utterly disgusting—especially when their throats swelled like balloons.

Bingwen jumped onto the air conditioner installed beneath a window. Water blades whooshed past, slicing the unit in half.

He leapt again and swung his blades at the acidic tongue.

The heavy stench of acid corroding metal assaulted his nose.

The edges of his blades chipped.

But so what?!

Bingwen activated his power, restoring the edges before twisting his wrist and slicing through the tongue.

“Kekk!”

The mutant cried out in pain and leapt backward.

Bingwen lengthened his blades and dashed forward, aiming to finish it—but the other mutant tore what remained of the air conditioner and hurled it at him.

With no other choice, Bingwen stomped his feet on the right wall, bouncing out of the way. The shattered air conditioner slammed into the injured mutant, knocking it off its feet.

“Kekk!”

Enraged, the remaining mutant lashed its tongue forward like an arrow, aiming straight for Bingwen’s head.

Bingwen hastily slid down the wall. The tongue tore straight through the metal window frame.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

You audacious prey! Stay still and become food!

Just as it tried to retract its tongue, the twisted metal frame bent inward, forming a tight U-shape that trapped it in place.

The mutant froze.

“Ribbit! Ribbit!”

What?!

Unable to move, it increased its acid secretion.

Bingwen didn’t wait for the metal to corrode completely.

Without its jumping ability and with its tongue immobilized, Bingwen easily slipped past the water blades.

The mutant couldn’t evade his strike.

Its neck was severed cleanly.

“Kekk!”

It shrieked one last time.

The remaining mutant was dealt with soon after.

The sounds from the roof finally ceased.

Bingwen didn’t bother looking for the spars. He rushed up to the roof and felt immense relief upon seeing Hei Qian alive, injured only in one arm.

“It’s good that you’re alright.” Bingwen gently patted his brother’s back.

Hei Qian nodded, sharing the same relief. He was glad to see Brother Bing unharmed as well.

Suddenly remembering something, the two hurried to the railing.

When they saw that Baoyin and Feng Ran were still alive, they let out a breath of relief.

However, their fight was still ongoing—three mutant frogmen were still standing on the other side.

“Just how many mutants did Miss Baoyin and Brother Feng fight?” Bingwen asked.

“I think more than ten.” Hei Qian counted the corpses scattered below.

Hei Qian swallowed.

Out of the corner of their eyes, they spotted Nanzhi and their boss already reaching the gate entrance.

Instinctively, they knew the fight would end in seconds.

Before the mutants could even glimpse the corner of their sister-in-law’s clothing, their heads exploded into bloody pulp.

The gap was simply too big.
