Capítulo 649: The True Goddess of Love, Aphrodite

Paris, December 20, 2025. Five days before the Celestial Tournament.

“…” Vergil stopped in front of the establishment. Unlike months ago when he had only come to meet that woman, the flower shop was completely abandoned, if we could call it that; it seemed quite run-down. Just like the goddess who ran it.

But now? That place seemed to have changed completely.

Now it was possible to see the elegance of classic lines, painted in dark, almost bluish tones, which contrasted with the explosion of life around it.

Cascades of purple bougainvillea descended from above, embracing the window display and spreading as if nature had reclaimed the place for itself.

In front, ceramic vases and wooden crates displayed a variety of lush green plants, arranged with almost artistic care. Through the large glass windows, the street trees and the soft daylight were reflected, while discreet words suggested that this was not just a shop, but a quiet refuge in the middle of Paris.

“She seems to be doing well now,” he said, smiling, and walked through the entrance, going to the door and pushing it open. As soon as he entered, the door made a soft bell-like sound and a happy woman inside called out, “Welcome! Just a minute!” It was a voice Vergil recognized well.

He walked to the counter and waited for her to come.

He observed that much had changed; previously, the place was old-fashioned and the flowers were almost dying. They reflected the shopkeeper’s awareness well. When he met her, everything was sad and tired, but now it was radiant, loving, beautiful.

“It seems I did the right thing helping her with that small favor,” he murmured, remembering when he texted her about Hercules.

Vergil heard from Paimon that she was looking for Hercules, and when he learned that he was going to see him at the banquet before the Tournament, he sent her a message.

She then came walking with a box of flowers in her hand; there were various colors and types, all in small decorative vases with the shop’s logo. Very well cared for.

“Excuse me, we’ve been selling a lot of flowers recently and a shipment just arrived,” she said without looking at him. She didn’t even realize who she was talking to; she just smiled and walked with that slightly heavy box from one side to the other.

“You seem happy, you didn’t even look at my face. This will hurt me,” Vergil said, crossing his arms to see the Goddess of Love, truly spreading love around.

Upon recognizing the voice, she turned her smiling face. “Darling!” she said and ran, almost dropping everything, to hug Vergil tightly.

“Whoa, hold on,” he said, feeling the warmth of the Goddess of Love. “I won’t run away, you don’t need to hug me so tight.”

She looked up, bringing her face close to his chest and smiling.

“Sorry,” she said with a sweet smile, looking up.

They still had a considerable height difference. She was around 1.65m tall while he was already 2.10m.

“You’ve changed quite a bit,” Vergil laughed, “And what’s this ‘Darling’ story?” Vergil asked mischievously, after all, last time she was quite… problematic, but now, she seemed like a woman he could really like.

Unlike the other time, now she was being herself. Without the frills of being the Sex Goddess that everyone wants at their feet. She was simply being the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite.

Vergil stroked her head, “Huh? You didn’t answer me.” He smiled.

Aphrodite’s caramel-colored skin flushed slightly, and she tried to pull away, but he pulled her back, allowing her to continue the embrace. “I didn’t tell you to leave, I told you to answer me,” he joked, running his hand through the goddess’s white hair.

For a second, that desire to possess him vanished completely.

“I had a good conversation with Hercules,” she replied. “Thank you so much for giving me the news about my half-brother. It helped a lot.” She answered sincerely. Very different from the clumsy goddess Vergil had known, she seemed to have found her way.

“Why did you come here? I’m not complaining, but it’s quite sudden,” Aphrodite asked, still smiling.

“I wanted to talk to you about something involving love,” he said. “Do you have time?”

“Hm… it’s already 11 o’clock, I’m going to close the shop for lunch. Can you wait a little while so I can change?” Aphrodite asked.

Vergil simply nodded, “I’ll be outside.”

Aphrodite didn’t take long; she quickly changed out of her work clothes into a dress without a low neckline. Yes, the goddess of love, sex, and other deities was just… being a normal woman. A dress without a low neckline, and a darker coat on top, just to avoid getting cold on the streets of Paris.

“Sorry, was I late?” She asked, turning the florist’s sign to “Closed.”

“No, for a woman who likes to dress up, you were pretty quick,” he joked.

“Oh, come on, don’t talk like that! You don’t know how hard it is to create clothes from scratch using divinity!” She complained, but Vergil could only laugh at the way she spoke and raised one arm, as if telling her to hold it so they could go.

Aphrodite smiled and accepted the Demon King’s offer, embracing his arm as they began to walk.

“So, how did it go?” Vergil asked, “This sudden change has made me quite interested in the conversation.”

Aphrodite continued walking with him as they stopped at a traffic light, “Hm… I think I can say that some doubts about my resignation as a participant of Olympus were cleared up with Hercules,” she commented.

“I understand, was that bothering you?” Vergil questioned as the traffic light turned green for them to proceed.

“I would say I had a serious problem when it came to my representation, and clearly, to what humanity knew about me. I think that somewhat tarnished who I was and who I am,” Aphrodite commented, and they resumed walking.

“I understand, so it was probably a very serious problem about what kind of individual you are,” Vergil commented, “That’s why you acted so desperately and, at the same time, depressively.”

She simply nodded, “With the conversation with Hercules, I realized that I have a lot to offer and that many slanders about my name should be cleared with some effort on my part.” She said smiling, “Of course, it’s difficult to change the history written by humans after so many millennia, but I can gradually change some of the gods I know.”

“I don’t think it’s necessary,” Vergil laughed, “I don’t know much about gods and their divine lives, I find it boring.” He spoke slowly as they walked up the sidewalk, “I just like to value myself, it sounds selfish and narcissistic, but who better to know yourself than yourself?”

Aphrodite sighed, “I’d like that kind of mentality, but it’s hard to love yourself while feeling inferior to everything and everyone.”

“I don’t think so,” he said, “Right now, I find you quite charming,” and added, “Quite different from the woman I knew who was desperate for attention.” He laughed, “And that’s okay. Just enjoy who you are and the past can stay there. In the past.” Vergil said.

Upon hearing that, Aphrodite could only think of one thing… ‘He became even more handsome after we first met, and now… he seems unattainable… I feel so—’

“That’s why we’re going on a date. I feel more comfortable with the true goddess than with that spoiled, aimless child I knew.” He smiled, pulling her closer.

“W-what are you—” She stammered, blushing as she rested her face against his arm, almost as if he were embracing her and recognizing her. “I-oh…” she stammered again, embarrassed.

‘That makes you even more irresistible…’ she thought.

“It’s alright… darling…” She murmured softly, and Vergil could only smile.

‘It was worth investing in her… I thought better of it after meeting Freyja, I was surprised when I saw this new version of Aphrodite… should I fall in love?’ Vergil questioned, after all, in a way. Now he could see the Goddess as a Woman. And not an annoying child.

They walked a few meters until they found an Italian apple restaurant. Vergil would eat anything, but he imagined Aphrodite had certain tastes. So he decided to choose something practical that most people would like to eat.

“I like it here,” Aphrodite commented, sitting down near a window overlooking the small boats passing through the city.

“That’s good, I didn’t even know what to choose,” he commented while they waited for their food.

Aphrodite looked around and Vergil commented, “Have you ever been on a date with anyone?” trying to start a conversation.

“No, it’s my first time,” she laughed, observing her surroundings; she was genuinely curious about the place.

“So I’m your first?” Vergil laughed, “I thought you were joking when you said you’d never been with anyone.”

“My standards were too high; after all, my pantheon was too proud to allow me to date mortals. Even Zeus tried to marry me off to Hephaestus, but… well, I freed Pandora and had the marriage annulled soon after. I didn’t want to be tied to a man.” She commented, smiling calmly.

“Hm, Pandora.” Vergil commented, remembering something, after all…

“Did you meet her?”

“Yes, in the Witch Kingdom. She seemed small and fragile, but equally arrogant. Despite that, she was a good person. I let her take care of my little Alice,” Vergil said, smiling, “I need to visit them soon.”

“Alice?”

“Yes, my adopted daughter,” Vergil said smiling, “She is currently the witch with the greatest potential in all of existence, at least that’s what Seris says. I’m happy she found a home. Although I’m busy and can’t see her often, soon it will be good to spend time with her and the girls.”

“Hm,” Aphrodite looked thoughtful…

‘If we had children… would you be a good father?’ She thought and shook her head, ‘No! Stop running away! I finally had a chance! Grab her, woman!’ She encouraged herself, clenching her fists.

“Are you thinking perverted things?” Vergil joked, and Aphrodite quickly shook her hands.

“N-no, no, no! Don’t say those things… stop teasing me,” she said.

“Hmm…” Vergil looked thoughtful. “I can’t. I won’t.” He said, his face hardening arrogantly, “Your expressions are very satisfying. I don’t want to lose them.” He spoke, and Aphrodite’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly turned her face away.

“Well… you…” She murmured softly.

The food arrived, and they began to eat calmly. Even though Aphrodite was still a little embarrassed, she remained composed during lunch.

“You still haven’t told me why you came to see me,” she commented while taking a sip of red wine. “I imagine you didn’t come to ask me out.”

“I… well, I really wasn’t going to ask you out,” Vergil admitted this… right in front of a woman. Damn idiot, what are you doing—”But you were so attractive and cute that I thought better of it.” Damn, the bastard is a genius!

“Hm… I understand. I’m glad,” she said, smiling. “I’ll get more and more beautiful from now on.”

‘He doesn’t know my authority! The more I like a man, the more beautiful I become to him! He has to fall in love!’ “I need a good husband like him!!” Aphrodite’s insides felt like a thirsty succubus, but outwardly she looked like a celestial angel.

“You’re having perverted thoughts, stop it.” Vergil said.

“What—”

“I came to ask for advice.” Vergil said, and she looked startled.

“For me?” She questioned, pointing to herself, “Sorry, but I think it would have been better to talk to—”

“I need advice about love.” He said.

Aphrodite’s face turned white, icy. Her? The goddess who had never loved anyone? The Symbol of Love, but never felt the warmth of a man in her life? Why her?!

“Vergil, I don’t have much experience with these things… You know, I’m kind of a Virg—”

“It’s for a mother-daughter relationship,” he said, interrupting her. Aphrodite quickly stopped and looked at him.

“W-well, I’m good with relationships in general… except romantic ones,” she said.

It was kind of absurd to hear that coming from the Goddess of Love, right? Or rather, LOVE and SEX!

“I’ll tell you first, and then you can tell me what you think.” Vergil then began to explain about Sapphire and Katharina while they ate. Of course, it would be better to enjoy the date, but Aphrodite realized that it was nice to talk about it, to include herself in his daily life and problems, it would bring her closer to him, and that was all she wanted now!

“I understand…” Aphrodite said after finishing eating, she crossed her arms thoughtfully. “I don’t know, honestly. Demons feel emotions too intensely, and many times they are distorted by the genetic factor of their race.” She commented.

It was true. Demons felt emotions amplified up to 20 times. That was too much for any neuron to process. Which often made demons obsessive and irrational. That’s why several demons go mad; very strong personality traits or conflicting emotions give rise to routine problems.

“I understand, I imagined the same thing. I just didn’t communicate it to them, but I think many of their thoughts and emotions probably got mixed up.” He said, and added, “Some emotions are so conflicting that they mess with their memories, and that worries me.”

Aphrodite sighed, “I don’t like messing with the psyche of demons; they are more complex, and a little bit of my charm might just drive a demon crazy.” She commented, “It’s a complicated problem; it will take time to analyze what we can do.” She commented as she finished her glass of wine.

They paid the restaurant bill and walked back down the street to the flower shop.

“I had an idea. But it might be a little absurd,” he said.

“What exactly does it involve?”

“10,000-year-old ginseng.”

“You want—”

“Well, the problem is that neither of them accepts the other’s love… I’ll give them a little push…” Vergil said.

“Do you want me to help you put together a plan to make this work?” she asked, hugging his arm. She was feeling quite happy to understand his plan…

“Can I participate?” she asked, her eyes filled with anxiety and madness. She really seemed happy. More than she should be.

Vergil looked at her. “I think it’s better not to, after all… let’s just say I’m thinking of doing something absurd.”

“Wow, I’d love to see that,” she commented. “Seeing Sapphire emotionally unstable is a prize.” She said, laughing, “It would be fun to see her put in her place at least once.”

They finally arrived in front of the flower shop.

“Unfortunately, I think it’s best if you don’t participate,” he said, “I want it to be their moment.”

“As if you wouldn’t enjoy this Ginseng,” she muttered irritably, “You rascal,” she said, pouting.

Vergil walked over to her and hugged her, putting his arms around her, “Don’t be angry, I’ll give you a better prize than seeing Sapphire vulnerable,” he said, stroking Aphrodite’s hair.

She hid her face in his chest. “What are you talking about…”

He lowered himself slightly, just to be at her height and look into her light blue eyes. She blushed at being stared at, and he leaned in, placing a kiss on her lips. A calm and gentle kiss.

“Wow… you’re making me melt,” she thought, keeping her eyes closed as she received that love. Her divinity was at its peak, and the Goddess’s body grew slightly warm as she felt it…

“How am I receiving love like this… wow… we don’t even know each other well… and he already loves me?” She was asking the wrong question… it wasn’t him who loved her… “Oh shit… I lost myself in him,” she thought, surrendering to the kiss.

After about 25 seconds, she pulled away breathless. She was breathing heavily.

“This is your reward for today,” Vergil said, kissing her forehead. “You’ve become an incredible woman since you found yourself. Keep it up when I get back, and you’ll receive more rewards.” He said, smiling, which embarrassed her…

“O-okay… I’ll wait for you here… come back soon,” she said shyly, and he waved goodbye. She quickly went inside the flower shop, smiling and happy, even skipping!

“He kissed me! He kissed me! I kissed him! It was my first kiss!” She hummed inside.

Vergil laughed and turned around, his gentle and happy face completely changing, replaced by a full-fledged demon. The true Demon that only appeared when he felt threatened by something, or when someone he cared about was in danger.

“I see you. Why don’t you introduce yourselves and declare your affiliations and intentions? I don’t want to spoil the happiness of My Goddess of Love.” Vergil spoke as his body urged him to kill everything and everyone.

From the moment he stepped on Earth, walked to the flower shop, and went to the restaurant. He felt the stares. But why didn’t he do anything? It’s simple.

He was enjoying his moment with Aphrodite. He didn’t want to ruin it by getting into a fight. A date was a date. That was it.

“I’ll repeat it. Name, Affiliation, and Intent. If you don’t speak within twenty seconds, you know what happens.”

I hope you enjoyed this gigantic chapter. I know Aphrodite’s transformation is quite significant, and it will be developed further over time. Please be patient! I hope you enjoyed it; I dedicated a LOT of time to writing this chapter. Whew, almost 3,000 words!
