Capítulo 1687: Special Event

In the end, the three of them had decided to go back with Jack to the Red Wing Kingdom. They had truly thought that after defeating Unzoku, it would be the last time they would ever need to do anything in this place. In fact, even when checking the system, the specific quest to learn how to defeat Unzoku was no longer there. It had been cleared, marked as complete. But there was no new notification, no flashing light, and no longer any quest at all. So why weren’t they out of this current space? Why hadn’t the world dissolved around them?

Since they figured the medallion was the very thing that got them here in the first place, they assumed it had to be the answer on how to get back out. This was why they were back at the Red Wing Kingdom now, sitting down in the same dimly lit room, staring intensely at the amulet as it sat on a wooden table.

“It’s doing nothing,” Gary said, his voice cracking with a mix of exhaustion and annoyance. “We’ve picked it up, we’ve transformed while holding onto it, we even tried twisting it like Bliss did and tried to use it like her. But none of it is working. It’s like it has no power anymore. It’s just a cold piece of metal.”

“Do you think Bliss would know?” Lupus asked, looking between his two friends. “She was the one who created the medallion that stuck us here, so she would have to know a way for us to go back, right? Maybe we should have chased after her.”

“If she did know, I think she would have told us before leaving,” Kai answered calmly, though his eyes showed he was just as worried. “If the medallion isn’t the answer right now, we should probably just give it back to Jack for safekeeping. If we’re still here, there might still be something we need to do. Something the system hasn’t told us yet.”

“Yeah, but if that is the case, then why won’t a system message come up and let us know?” Gary asked, slamming his fist onto the table. “Usually, it’s breathing down our necks to do something. Now? Silence.”

The three of them tried to rack their brains, desperately wanting to come up with a solution. They went over every detail of their arrival. They even briefly considered the darkest possibility: maybe they needed to be Alphas again to get the medallion to work. But the only way to do that in this world would be to kill Jack and Steve.

Even if they were willing to go that far, only two of them would become Alphas, and how exactly were they meant to do that with their powers being suppressed as they were? On top of that, even if this was a fake world or a memory, trying to kill Jack and Steve didn’t feel right. They were allies. Surely the system would have given them a specific quest if such a brutal act was required.

“We figured out we need to use the medallion to defeat Unzoku in some way or another, so why can’t we just leave this place!” Gary shouted, his frustration boiling over as he almost started pulling out his hair. “I’m just worried about what might have happened to Slough and the others while we’ve been away. Time might be moving differently here.”

Although the other two didn’t worry about that so much at first, due to how much time had already passed within this space, they were starting to worry about it more as well. If they were gone for years in the real world, what would be left for them to return to?

Since there was nothing they could do for now and they didn’t want to resort to any drastic measures just yet, they continued to just live among Jack and his pack. They started training every day, trying to keep their skills sharp. They hoped that at some point, the space, or whatever energy it was running off of, would simply come to an end and they would be kicked out of it automatically.

Thankfully, Jack’s pack, as well as the other inhabitants of the kingdom, seemed to be rather welcoming to them now that the situation was cleared up. Jack had officially claimed that a third party had been meddling in their affairs and that the threat had been dealt with by his new “guests.”

One afternoon, while they were just walking around doing their normal duties and sparring with the other werewolves to pass the time, Galdark came over to the three of them.

“I’m surprised…” Galdark said, wiping sweat from his brow. “I’m surprised the three of you are still here, to be honest. I mean, I thought you would have gone off to do your own thing by now, or maybe headed back to join Steve and the others in the forest.”

“Right… well, we just have some problems at the moment,” Kai answered vaguely. He was clearly not wanting to dive any deeper into the subject of being trapped in a different time.

“Well, if you’re going to stay, you guys should at least join the pack properly. It would make you feel more welcome,” Galdark said. He suddenly stopped mid-sentence because two of the younger pack members nearby were getting a little too rough with each other during a drill.

Galdark jumped in, his large frame easily stopping the scuffle. He told the two to go on their way and cool off before he made his way back to the others, scratching his head in confusion.

“Man, seriously. Although we no longer have any issues with Steve and his pack, and the Unzoku business is over, it seems like the pack members are fighting with each other a lot more these days. It’s just giving me a massive headache,” Galdark sighed. “Well, if you do decide to leave or stay, I would recommend you stay at least until the special event is over.”

“Special event?” Kai asked, his ears perking up.

“In a couple of days’ time, there is a celebration where we eat moon cakes and have a huge market sale. We all have a good time together. It’s something the whole town celebrates, not just our pack. It’s something you really shouldn’t miss out on,” Galdark explained with a small smile.

“Moon cakes? Isn’t that something you eat during that specific tradition?” Gary asked, looking at the other two for answers, his brow furrowed as a memory flickered in his mind.

Kai had paused, looking startled. The sound of his heart was thumping even louder in his chest, a rhythmic drumming that only he could hear.

“Right… moon cakes are eaten when the moon is at its fullest and brightest,” Kai answered, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I think I know why we’re stuck here now. But I have no idea what we’re meant to do about it.”
