Chapter 742: Get Rid of Them All With Ease – Part 2
Upon hearing his words, the Fifth Apostle was consumed by rage. However, that anger was quickly overshadowed by fear—fear of Leon’s mysterious power and unknown identity.
He instinctively stepped back and shouted in a trembling voice, “Don’t even think about killing me! Otherwise, you’ll face the vengeance of the Temple of Twilight!”
Unfortunately, his threat had no effect on Leon. After all, Leon had once nearly killed the Second Apostle himself in the Desert of Chaos—so what was the Fifth Apostle in comparison?
Yet even now, the Temple of Twilight had never retaliated. Instead, they vanished into hiding and were never seen again.
Realizing his threat was useless, the Fifth Apostle’s panic deepened.
He saw the killing intent burning in Leon’s eyes and knew he was likely going to die.
But at that moment, he suddenly remembered his subordinate, Rigot.
“Wait a minute…” His eyes lit up with hope. “If I use Rigot as bait, I can definitely escape!”
Cruel as it was, he didn’t care. Rigot was merely a subordinate—his life held far less value in the eyes of the Temple.
Sacrificing him felt not only reasonable but also necessary.
With newfound resolve, he called out, “Rigot! I have a plan to defeat him. But I need your help!”
Two seconds passed, but there was still no response from Rigot behind him.
Startled, he glanced over his right shoulder—only to find that Rigot had vanished.
“What?” His eyes widened in horror. “Don’t tell me… Rigot ran away? How dare he!”
Blue veins bulged at his temples, and his breathing grew ragged with anger.
It had never occurred to him that Rigot would do something like this.
After all, Rigot was the subordinate he trusted the most. But in the end, the man had betrayed him—and that made his blood boil.
“Pfft!” Leon chuckled and sneered. “I didn’t expect you to be this stupid—just like your predecessor. When you charged at me, your subordinate slipped away. I didn’t say anything on purpose, just so you could savor the sting of betrayal. So? How does it feel? Tasty?”
“You…” The Fifth Apostle growled in rage, but no words came out.
He was being cornered. Falling for his provocation now would be meaningless.
“Alright, enough small talk,” Leon said coldly. “Time to die.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Leon’s figure suddenly appeared before him, his right fist already drawn back.
Just as the blow was about to land, the Fifth Apostle staggered back two steps and shouted, “Wait! I’ll tell you why we wanted to kill that girl!”
Leon halted, one brow rising in mild curiosity.
“Oh? Are you serious? You do realize that’s a betrayal, don’t you?” he said, his smile laced with mockery.
The man gulped and replied nervously, “I know… but I had no other choice. If I tell you, maybe—just maybe—I’ll still have a chance to live.”
“And what makes you think I’ll let you?” Leon sneered coldly.
The Fifth Apostle trembled with fear but quickly forced himself to appear composed.
“In that case, you’re bound to regret this. Judging by your reaction, I can tell you have a grudge against the Temple of Twilight. That’s why I’m certain you’ll want to hear what I have to say.”
Although the man’s face was concealed beneath a hood, Leon could clearly sense the confidence behind his gaze.
“He’s sharp… and competent,” Leon admitted inwardly.
Truth be told, he was deeply curious about why the Temple of Twilight had targeted Ruri and the Spirit race.
Despite all his earlier assumptions, he still wasn’t fully convinced of the truth. So hearing it directly from this man was the best way to find out.
“Alright,” Leon said, slowly stepping back. “Tell me the Temple of Twilight’s true purpose. If your answer satisfies me, I’ll let you go.”
The Fifth Apostle let out a quiet sigh of relief and gave a quick nod, like a chicken pecking at rice.
“Actually…”
He then began explaining everything. As the Fifth Apostle, he was naturally privy to the true objective behind their mission.
Leon listened carefully, his expression gradually turning grim.
“So… their goal really is the curse,” he muttered under his breath.
However, there were still things he hadn’t realized—their true objective was to make contact with the Evil God.
The blood curse was a technique created by the Evil God to afflict the Spirit race. Naturally, remnants of the Evil God’s consciousness lingered within the curse.
Of course, locating members of the Spirit race was no easy task, as they resided deep within the Valley of a Thousand Whispers—a remote and hard-to-reach place.
Moreover, spirits were far from weak. In fact, they were powerful and fearsome beings, capable of unleashing attacks that could shatter the minds and souls of other living creatures.
More importantly, not every curse carried traces of the Evil God’s consciousness.
By sheer chance, they had discovered Ruri in an area roughly eight kilometers from their current location and attempted to capture her.
Unfortunately, the plan failed—and the rest, Leon already knew.
“That’s all I know; I swear it upon earth and heaven!” The Fifth Apostle cried, raising his right hand high in a desperate attempt to convince Leon.
Leon could sense the sincerity in his words and chose not to press further.
“Alright, I believe you,” he said calmly.
The Fifth Apostle stared at him, clearly surprised.
“Are you serious?” he asked, doubtful.
Leon’s eyes narrowed. “Or would you prefer I didn’t?”
“N-no, that’s not what I meant…” he replied nervously.
Leon shook his head and waved his hand dismissively, as if brushing away a fly.
“Get lost. I don’t want to see your face again.”
The words stung, but the Fifth Apostle didn’t take offense. He was simply grateful for the chance to escape with his life.
“Thank you!”
Without another word, he turned and vanished like a gust of wind.
As he disappeared into the distance, a faint, mocking smile curled on Leon’s lips.
***
“Damn it! This is so humiliating!”
Leaping from one tree trunk to another, the Fifth Apostle gritted his teeth in fury.
His eyes glowed red, and a wave of seething hatred surged within him.
Don’t be fooled by his cowardly act—deep down, he longed to tear Leon into pieces.
It was the first time he’d ever been humiliated like this, and he couldn’t bear it.
“But it’s fine,” he muttered, a cold gleam flashing in his eyes. “I’ll report this to headquarters and request backup from the other Apostles. With their help, the mission will succeed… and I’ll have my revenge.”
A cruel smile crept onto his lips as he envisioned Leon’s downfall.
But then—
*Slash!*
A slash, forged from the power of chaos, tore through him from behind—swift and silent.
“Eh? Wh-what the—”
Before he could finish, his body split in two, each half crashing onto separate tree trunks.
***
“You idiot. Do you think I don’t know what you’re thinking?” Leon mocked with a cold laugh.
Although the Fifth Apostle tried to suppress his killing intent, it didn’t escape Leon’s notice.
He had let him off on purpose—gaining his trust first, only to crush his hopes in the end.
“Tsk…” Leon shook his head slightly, a guilty expression on his face. “I’m getting more and more cruel. Is this because of stress?”
He had no time to rest. His mind was consumed by the problems ahead. That was likely the reason he’d become so cold and indifferent.
Boom!
A sudden explosion echoed from the sky, snapping Leon out of his thoughts.
With a quiet sigh, he turned his gaze southward—toward the direction where the Fifth Apostle’s partner was fleeing.
“Time to get rid of the other one,” he muttered before vanishing from the scene.
***
“This is absolutely insane! Of all places, why did I have to run into the Fated One here? What rotten luck!”
Leaping from one tree trunk to another, Rigot cursed silently, his heart filled with anger and fear.
The Fated One was the last person he ever wanted to face. Even when accepting missions, he always ensured they had nothing to do with him.
After all, that monstrous being had already claimed the lives of the Seventh, Fifth, and Fourth Apostles.
Worse still, during their attempt to seize the Holy Empire of Elysium, hundreds of their elites had perished—crippling the very foundation of the Temple of Twilight.
Since then, they had been forced to retreat into the shadows, just as they once had.
Although their numbers had begun to recover, it wasn’t nearly enough to fill the void left behind.
After running for fifteen minutes, Rigot finally paused, leaning his back against a tree and letting out a quiet sigh.
“There’s no way the Fated One can catch up with me now,” he whispered in relief.
He didn’t know exactly how far he’d run, but he was certain it was at least two or three kilometers.
With that kind of distance, there was no way Leon could catch up to him.
*Buzz!*
A streak of blue lightning crashed from the sky, startling him. Before he could even react, a tall man with a cold expression was already standing before him.
Rigot’s eyes widened in disbelief and terror. “How… how is this possible? You—”
But before he could finish, a deafening crack of thunder tore through the air—and his head was already severed from his body.
Leon simply smiled and gave a slight shake of his head.
“Trash,” he muttered coldly, before vanishing without a trace.
