Chapter 740: Two Intruders – Part 2

*Boom!*

Lightning rumbled across the sky, followed by rain that poured down even harder.

A strong wind tore through the forest, making the leaves thrash wildly in every direction.

Amidst the storm, two men in black cloaks stood on a tree branch, staring down at the spot where Ruri’s body had been the night before.

“Are you sure her body is here?” the Fifth Apostle asked, his tone indifferent.

“Yes, I’m sure, Fifth Apostle,” his companion replied with confidence. “I marked the girl with a scent earlier, and the trail ends here. She most likely died at this spot. Her body may have been devoured by the forest monsters.”

The Fifth Apostle gave a slight nod. “I see. Still, we need to bring back her clothes or some kind of proof. Without it, headquarters won’t consider the mission complete.”

“Understood.” His partner gave a small nod.

They leapt down from the tree, landing precisely where Ruri was last seen.

The two searched the ground and surrounding area within a ten-meter radius but found no trace of Ruri’s belongings.

The Fifth Apostle’s partner scratched his head and muttered, “This is really troublesome. If she was eaten by a forest monster, there’s probably nothing left behind.”

The monsters in the forest usually devoured every part of their prey, leaving nothing behind.

Unless they found the body of the monster that had eaten Ruri, it would be impossible to locate any of her belongings.

And finding that monster was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

The forest was vast, with many areas still unexplored. Even for him and the Fifth Apostle, this place was dangerous. They had to stay alert.

Just as he was lost in thought, the Fifth Apostle’s loud voice rang out from behind.

“Rigot, come here! I found a monster’s carcass!”

Rigot was startled and immediately ran toward the voice. There, he saw the corpse of an iron-armored bear lying on the ground, its head smashed in.

The blood had dried, but reddish stains were still visible on its belly and other parts of its body.

“A monster’s corpse? How is that possible?” Rigot muttered in disbelief.

The iron-armored bear was a high-level creature—powerful and typically avoided at all costs.

Its massive body was covered in natural armor nearly impossible to pierce, and its claws were sharper than blades.

A single strike from one of those claws could shred a person into minced flesh.

Although he was confident he could take one down, the cost would be severe—he’d suffer massive injuries, if he survived at all.

And yet, there it was—a powerful monster lying dead, its head crushed. It was clear this wasn’t the work of another beast but of someone.

Rigot glanced at the Fifth Apostle, who was also watching him.

“There seems to be someone very powerful in this forest. What do you think, Rigot?”

Rigot nodded slowly. “You’re right, Fifth Apostle. This is completely unexpected. I even suspect the girl from the Spirit race was saved by that person.”

The Fifth Apostle said nothing, but his expression was twisted with anger and hatred.

Rigot’s words made sense. They had searched a ten-meter radius, yet found nothing—no trace, no belongings, not even a scrap left behind by the girl.

Instead of her, they had discovered the corpse of an iron-armored bear. And now, things became clear—someone had likely rescued the girl.

“What should we do, Fifth Apostle? Should we retreat or continue searching for her?” Rigot asked, uncertain.

The traces left behind made one thing clear—the bear had been killed with a single blow.

To take down an armored bear with just one punch, the one responsible had to possess overwhelming power.

Of course, in real combat, raw strength wasn’t everything. Tactics, deception, and hidden weapons also played a crucial role.

Even so, Rigot wasn’t willing to risk his life recklessly.

Unfortunately, he noticed the face beneath the Fifth Apostle’s hood turning red—a clear sign of fury. It was obvious: the Apostle wasn’t about to give up on the girl from the Spirit race.

“We’ll keep looking for her—no matter what,” the Fifth Apostle declared firmly. “Don’t concern yourself with that person. I’ll deal with him myself.”

Hearing that, Rigot didn’t argue. The Fifth Apostle held far greater status and power than he did. Refusing would be meaningless.

Still, there was a sense of calm and relief in his heart upon hearing the Fifth Apostle’s assurance.

At the very least, he now felt safer—more confident.

“Alright, let’s not waste any more time. Now, let’s—”

Before the Fifth Apostle could finish his sentence, a cold voice suddenly echoed from above them.

“You don’t need to look for me. I’m already here.”

Their bodies instantly stiffened, and their expressions turned rigid—but only for a moment.

Within seconds, they regained their composure and darted forward ten meters before spinning around and looking up.

Amidst the swaying leaves, Leon stood atop one of them, arms folded across his chest.

Rain poured down in sheets, yet somehow, his hair and body remained completely dry—as if protected by an invisible barrier.

The black robe he wore billowed in the wind, and his piercing purple eyes shone with a cold light that seemed to cut straight into the soul.

The Fifth Apostle narrowed his eyes, locking his gaze onto Leon.

“Who are you?” he asked, his voice cold but cautious.

He couldn’t sense the man’s presence at all—as if the figure were nothing but air. That was impossible. No matter how strong a being was, there would always be some trace of their presence, and he had the skill to detect it.

But this man had shattered every rule and sense of logic he held sacred.

Rigot was just as tense as the Fifth Apostle. Whether it was instinct or reality, he could feel it—this man radiated a deadly threat.

His instincts screamed at him to run. Yet his body refused to move. His feet felt as if they were nailed to the ground—pinned in place by two massive spikes holding his entire body down.

Leon gave a cold smile at the question. Without so much as rustling the leaf beneath him, he leapt into the air and descended slowly, landing softly on the ground.

“Are you stupid?” he said, his gaze turning dismissive. “Weren’t you the ones looking for me? And now that I’ve shown up, you’re still asking that? The people from the Temple of Twilight really never change—still pathetic as ever.”

His words ignited anger in both the Fifth Apostle and Rigot. But more than that, they were stunned that Leon knew exactly where they came from.

“Fifth Apostle, this man is extremely dangerous,” Rigot whispered carefully. “Should we fall back and report him to headquarters?”

The Fifth Apostle hesitated. But when he imagined the consequences of failure—and the possibility of losing his position—he shook his head with resolve.

“No,” he said coldly. “I won’t run away.”
