Capítulo 688: Chapter 688: Eastern Continent
Eren had conquered the Western Continent. He had stopped the rebellion of the Holy Priestess with brute force. In the process, he even managed to kill the Main Character of the Western Continent.
With that, he had killed three Main Characters in this world, leaving only the one in the Southern Continent.
He had dealt with all immediate threats, and now he could finally return to the only place in this world that even remotely felt like home.
He could return to the Demon Sect, where many people were waiting for him, not knowing if he was ever going to return.
He had left a clone to take care of the Holy Emperor’s place, but his own place was left vacant. For this world, he had just disappeared into nothingness.
Even if many had started thinking of him as dead, he wouldn’t have questioned it; after all, he left no proper message behind.
Subconsciously, he was even looking forward to seeing their reactions when he returned to the Sect.
It had been a very long time since he had last been to the Sect. There were many people he wanted to see there, especially those who were dear to him.
Now that he was stronger, he no longer needed to hide his real identity from them. Still, he used the same face they remembered.
He climbed onto the grand warship of the Holy Empire, one of the few that were still left intact after the war, and set out on his journey to the Eastern Continent.
He also brought a young man with him, who was tied with chains.
The young man had grown extremely strong with each death, yet he wasn’t able to break the chains.
His expressions kept switching from shock to disbelief as he struggled to break free. He didn’t know that these shackles were used by the Ice Palace Master to tie up Eren.
If even he couldn’t break these shackles without the key, then it was almost impossible for him to achieve it.
Eren didn’t say anything to the young man, leaving him to his own devices. Except for delivering food through a servant, no one else was even allowed to approach the man.
For the first few days, the young man held firm. He didn’t say anything and wondered what Eren wanted from him. He was even curious about that man’s identity, for him to know the secrets of the system.
He thought Eren was going to approach him on his own. Eren had left him because he needed him. It gave him the upper hand in the upcoming negotiations since Eren couldn’t kill him in the first place.
At least, that’s what he thought. His thoughts were slowly crumbling as Eren didn’t call for him. He was left to rot, with none to talk to.
After the third day, he couldn’t take the silence anymore. He was also curious about Eren. The more he was kept away, the more messy his mind became.
On the fourth day, he couldn’t control himself and started yelling at the servant who delivered food.
“Take me to your master! I want to talk to him!”
The servant simply ignored the young man. After putting the food down, he turned around and returned like a deaf man who hadn’t heard anything.
Although he didn’t show it, the servant still delivered the message to Eren.
Eren wasn’t surprised in the slightest. He only smiled slightly.
“Let him rot for a few more days. It’ll make him more obedient when he learns that he needs me more than I need him. In any case, he’s only alive until I’m done with my preparations.”
On the sixth day, the ship entered the Eastern Continent, which truly looked like it had been through hell.
Many towns on the route had already been destroyed, even though this place was far from the Southern Border.
This place shouldn’t have become a battlefield so fast, yet the wreckage was saying otherwise.
In one town, not even a single wooden plank was left behind. There was only a large crater. If Eren didn’t know better, he could never guess that a large town used to be there.
In fact, this was the town where he had stayed for a brief moment in the past.
Fortunately, most of the cities in the inner part of the continent were still intact. There were many smaller battlefields that had naturally appeared, blocking the advances of the Heroes.
Still, it didn’t mean that the Southern Continent didn’t suffer any losses. Just as they sent their armies to the Eastern Continent, the Demon Sect had also sent a few powerful armies into the Southern Continent to wreck them.
It caused the battlefields to be segregated, dragging out a war that could’ve ended in one large-scale battle. No side wanted to suffer too many losses in conquering the other.
Still, the Eastern Continent naturally had it worse, as per the information Eren had received.
The only good news for him was that those he cared about were still alive. They were staying in the Demon Sect, being the final line of defense.
“Enemies approaching! Prepare for war!”
Eren was looking forward to returning to the sect when his heightened senses picked up a distant roar.
He turned in the direction of the roar and saw a large cannon pointed toward their ship.
“Are they confusing me with the enemies? Though their preparation and alertness isn’t bad.”
Eren waited for them to prepare their attack, trying to test the attack power of the Eastern Cities that had survived for so long.
The cannon was filled with Spirit Stones, granting it power.
“That must be the new weapon that the Treasure Hall was working on. In my absence, not only did they complete it, but also delivered it to cities? That girl is certainly talented.”
Eren raised his right hand and summoned a sword.
The cannon fired a bright beam of light toward the ship. Meanwhile, Eren walked in the air, stopping before the ship.
“The attack is almost as powerful as a Grand Elder’s attack. Not bad.”
He completed the attack while bringing down his sword, cutting the beam of light in two halves, destroying the attack with a single sword.
In the city fortress, the guards were left frozen in place.
One of them ran away to alert the guardian assigned to protect this place by the Demon Sect. The others prepared for another attack.
They prepared to ignore more spirit stones when a figure appeared before them, covering thousands of miles with a single step.
“I think that’s enough wastage of the spirit stones.” He aimed his sword at the cannon.
