Capítulo 944: Chapter 942 Talk With Rakan 2

It was his silent way of showing determination that he wouldn’t falter or be outdone just because he lacked an awakened ability. But deep down, he knew that without one, his potential would always have limits. That thought alone made his palms damp and his heart race as he waited anxiously for Kisha’s verdict.

“How about I help you awaken? What do you think?”

Kisha’s sudden words made Rakan choke on his own saliva, his eyes widening in disbelief. For a moment, he wondered if he had misheard her, or if he was hallucinating entirely. After all, everyone knew that awakening an ability wasn’t something anyone could control.

No one could guarantee success, nor could they predict whether the attempt would awaken power or turn a person into a zombie. Yet here was Kisha, saying it so casually, as if it were the simplest thing in the world. To Rakan, it felt like a dream, something impossible and too good to be true.

“W-What? Could you… say that again? I—I didn’t quite catch it…” Rakan stammered, disbelief written all over his face as his lips trembled. A part of him desperately wanted to hear Kisha repeat those words, that she could help him awaken his ability, but another part feared that he had only imagined it, that it was nothing more than an auditory hallucination brought by wishful thinking.

Without realizing it, his hand clenched the edge of the table so tightly that faint cracks formed beneath his fingers, betraying the storm of emotions he was struggling to keep under control.

Kisha chuckled softly at Rakan’s reaction. He probably thought he was doing a good job hiding his emotions, but she could clearly hear the way he held his breath and noticed how his fingers dug into the edge of the table, as if grounding himself. Deciding to stop teasing him, she finally spoke in earnest.

“I can help you awaken your ability safely,” Kisha said, her tone gentle yet firm. “But the kind of ability you’ll awaken depends entirely on your body’s potential. I can’t promise it’ll be a powerful one.”

In truth, though, Kisha already had a fairly good idea. She had seen Rakan’s status window and, judging by the hints in his Talent and Gift, she could narrow down the possibilities of what his awakened ability might be.

Then, without Rakan noticing, Kisha discreetly opened his status window once more to double-check his Talent and Gift: “Talent: King of the Jungle” and “Gift: The Animal Kingdom Codex.”

She studied the details carefully, her mind racing with possibilities. Still, she chose not to share her deduction with Rakan — not yet. She didn’t want to raise his hopes or make assumptions that might prove wrong.

For now, she could only wait and see.

Truth be told, Kisha was just as excited. This would be the first time she personally witnessed someone use an Awakening Fruit. Although she had already given one to Aston, he hadn’t used it yet, as he was still preparing himself and waiting for a quiet moment to awaken.

Knowing Aston, he’d probably attempt it later that night, once his nerves and excitement finally settled.

So, Kisha could only rely on Rakan to witness the Awakening Fruit’s true effectiveness up close. If it really proved to be as powerful as she hoped, then she would make it her mission to find more, and she could select the best warriors with the most promising Talents and Gifts to strengthen HOPE Base until it stood unmatched across the nation.

Just imagining it made her blood stir with excitement and determination. The thought of turning her base into an unshakable force, one that no one would dare to challenge, sent a fiery thrill coursing through her veins.

“Host… sorry to burst your bubble so soon, but if I don’t say it now, you might end up even more disappointed later.” 008 began, its tone awkward yet cautious, as if bracing itself for Kisha’s reaction.

“The Awakening Fruit is one of the most coveted treasures across all realms. Because of its overwhelming demand and extremely limited supply, it’s almost impossible to obtain it. The fact that you received five of them already means the Mother System or the Constellation was being incredibly generous; it was probably as compensation for all those brutal missions you’ve completed so far, so you’d have the motivation to keep going.”

008 paused for a moment before continuing, a hint of guilt in its voice. “So… even if you have billions of system points, they won’t be enough to buy more. The only possible way is through the Achievement Shop, but even then, each fruit would cost millions of achievement points.”

It sounded almost sheepish by the end, knowing full well it had just shattered Kisha’s moment of world-conquering excitement. Still, it would be far kinder to tell her now than to let her hopes soar only to be crushed later.

“Fuck!” Kisha hissed under her breath, agitation coursing through her veins. She had just finished forming a perfect plan, one that involved building an army of awakened ability users strong enough to crush every other base and shelter. With that, she wouldn’t have to fear even the Zombie King, much less those human bases crawling with superhumans.

But of course, something that powerful could never come without limits. The Awakening Fruit was rare — too rare. There was no way she could have an endless supply. That meant she had to use what she had sparingly, strategically.

Still, when she thought of giving them to Aston and Rakan, she couldn’t bring herself to regret it. Among everyone, Rakan’s potential was exceptional, and Aston… Aston was loyal, capable, and a man with solid promise.

So, Kisha didn’t get angry at 008. Instead, she just let out a long, heavy sigh.

“Alright. Thank you for telling me…” she said calmly in her mind.

Only then did 008 realize it had been holding its breath the entire time, afraid that Kisha would explode in anger. But to its relief, she didn’t blame it. After all, something as powerful as the Awakening Fruit was bound to be rare and in high demand.

It wasn’t 008’s fault; missions and rewards weren’t under its control anyway. It was merely a mediator, one of the lowest-ranked systems, and newly born at that.

So instead, Kisha turned her attention back to Rakan, who was still frozen in place like a statue. Maybe he’d gone a little silly from happiness after hearing what she said, so Kisha decided to give him a moment to savor it.

Meanwhile, Duke remained silent behind her, simply watching the exchange unfold like the spectator he was.

He watched the series of expressions flicker across Kisha’s face as she stayed silent, first exhilaration, then a sudden hardness, as if she’d just received the most crushing news in the world. Her expression darkened before softening again with understanding and acceptance.

The sight of it all greatly amused him.

Besides, with everything he’d seen Kisha pull out of nowhere, he knew she wasn’t just boasting when she told Rakan she could help him awaken his ability. He trusted that she was offering the chance for the good of the base and as a true leader.

In fact, he could only admire her and feel fortunate that he had managed to secure such a remarkable wife. He quietly patted himself on the back for recognizing a treasure when he saw one, and a small, proud smile slipped across his lips.

“Thud!”

Kisha and Duke’s attention snapped toward the sudden sound, as if something had slammed into the floor. To their surprise, they saw Rakan kneeling, no, he was groveling, on the ground, trembling with overwhelming excitement, his eyes glossy as if he were about to cry.

“Thank you so much for this chance, City Lord! I swear I won’t disappoint you. I offer my life and everything I have to you!” Rakan declared, his voice trembling with emotion.

Such opportunities didn’t come often, and the fact that Kisha had chosen him out of thousands from the base filled him with gratitude so deep it nearly overflowed. His heart pounded with anticipation and exhilaration, his words tumbling out in a mix of awe and disbelief.

[You received Devotion from mortals +10]

Kisha’s eyes widened as a notification suddenly popped up in front of her. ‘This also works, too?’ she thought, astonished to see her devotion points increase. With enough devotion points, her Authority would rise as well. A swirl of mixed emotions flickered across her face before she pushed them aside.

It wasn’t the time to dwell on that now.

Instead, she reached into her inventory and pulled out the Awakening Fruit. A multicolored, radiant fruit materialized in her hands, shimmering with an ethereal glow.

Rakan froze, choking on his own words as his eyes widened in disbelief. Even without Kisha saying a thing, he could tell this was no ordinary fruit; it exuded an overwhelming divine presence that made the air feel heavier. His throat tightened as he swallowed hard, feeling almost unworthy to gaze upon it.

“Heavens…” Rakan breathed, his voice trembling in awe as he blinked several times, trying to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
