Capítulo 941: Chapter 939 Gaining Authority
More importantly, it would further solidify her authority, as people naturally placed greater value on her when she had more to offer.
Although she was already highly regarded, having additional resources would attract even more exceptional individuals to join her most trusted squad. Moreover, since she had already awakened her own ability, the Awakening Fruit would go to waste in her inventory, so rather than let it sit unused, she chose to put it to meaningful use.
Aston stared at the unfamiliar fruit in his hand, confused at first. But he had a hunch about where it came from, one that was confirmed a moment later when a series of messages popped up before him.
[Kisha: I sent you an Awakening Fruit. When you have time, go into seclusion and prepare yourself for awakening. You’ve been taking the Scarlet Honey for quite a while now, so your body should already be ready.]
[Kisha: Using this fruit is much safer than waiting for a natural awakening. This way, there’s no risk of you turning into a zombie.]
[Aston: There’s actually something this amazing?!!!]
[Aston: City Lord, are you sure you want to give me such a treasure?!]
[Aston: …Well, since you’ve already given it to me, I won’t give it back!]
[Aston: (。•̀ᴗ-)✧]
[Kisha: My husband, my family, and I have all awakened our abilities already, so it would be a waste for me to keep it. It’s better if you use it and grow stronger. That way, even when I leave the base, you’ll have the strength to protect it yourself.]
[Aston: Thank you so much, City Lord. Please leave everything to me, I’ll protect the base with everything I have. You can go and do what you need to without worrying about us.]
[Aston: (p〒д〒q)]
…
Seeing Aston’s reply, Kisha couldn’t help but smirk in amusement, her heart warming with satisfaction. She was genuinely happy; after all, she couldn’t stay in the base forever, guarding it against every threat.
There would be more missions waiting for her outside, just like this one involving the subjugation of a mutated zombie.
If she wanted to live safely and freely in this world, she had to take the initiative, to hunt down potential zombie kings before they grew stronger or complete whatever missions the system assigned her. Deep down, Kisha knew the system wouldn’t allow her to stay cooped up in the base now that things were running smoothly and stability was within reach.
Now that she had given one Awakening Fruit to Aston, she only needed to arrange the distribution of the remaining four.
“Are things alright outside?”
Duke suddenly emerged from the meeting room, followed closely by Sparrow, who looked just as worried as he did. It seemed Kisha had taken a little longer than expected outside, and Duke’s concern had finally gotten the better of him, prompting him to come out and check on her. Naturally, Sparrow followed right after, sharing his unease.
Just as they were about to return to the meeting room, the rich aroma of food caught their attention. Not far away, large woks and pots simmered over crackling firewood, filling the air with the comforting scent of stew.
Kisha’s grandmother was busy tasting the broth as chunks of beef, carrots, and potatoes bubbled together.
It seemed the people of the settlement had decided to use nearly all their remaining food supplies to prepare a feast for Kisha and her group. Seeing their generosity despite having so little made Kisha’s heart ache. She shook her head softly, then walked over and waved her hand.
In an instant, crates upon crates of fresh vegetables, meat, and seafood appeared out of thin air. The people around her froze, eyes wide, mouths agape. Some even had tears welling in their eyes at the sight of such abundance.
Kisha, however, felt a bit flustered. She didn’t want them to think she was showing off. She had simply felt guilty at the thought of eating their remaining food, especially after noticing how many children lived in this settlement.
Just as Kisha was about to say something, the people around her suddenly broke into cheers, their voices filled with joy and relief. But the excitement quickly faded into awkward silence as they turned to look at her with embarrassed expressions, guilt flickering in their eyes.
“City Lord… I think this is too much,” one of the women helping nearby said timidly. Her voice trembled slightly, torn between gratitude and restraint.
Though she tried to maintain her composure, her gaze lingered on the crates, her mouth nearly watering at the sight of the fresh ingredients. She wanted nothing more than to taste them, yet she held herself back.
They had promised to treat Kisha and her group as a way of thanking them for saving the settlement, but now it felt as though the roles had been reversed, as if it was Kisha who was treating them. The realization made them feel unworthy, and that only deepened their unease.
Although they didn’t know where all those supplies came from, they had already seen strange things before, like fire appearing out of thin air or objects materializing when the STAU used their abilities earlier, so this sight no longer shocked them as much.
Still, seeing such an abundance of fresh ingredients made their hearts leap with excitement… and guilt. They couldn’t help but feel bad, knowing how little they themselves had.
“That’s right, City Lord, this is too much. Maybe just a few vegetables would be enough,” another person added, swallowing hard as his gaze lingered on the crates. They had heard from Adam that HOPE Base was abundant in supplies, but seeing Kisha take out such a generous amount with their own eyes made them truly believe it.
Still, that abundance only deepened their discomfort; they didn’t want to appear as though they were taking advantage of her kindness. If they seemed too greedy, it might reflect badly on them and make Kisha reconsider accepting their settlement under HOPE Base’s alliance.
None of them wanted to risk that.
Just as everyone stood frozen in awkward silence, a small gasp suddenly broke the stillness.”Whoa! So much yummy food!” one of the children exclaimed, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she toddled closer.
She had likely just woken up after crying herself to sleep earlier, still shaken from the terrifying events of the day.
Her innocent outburst drew the attention of the other kids, who soon came running and gathering around, giggling and whispering in awe. They had never seen this much food since the apocalypse began.
Back then, they had to ration every bite, and although Adam and his team had recently managed to bring supplies from HOPE Base, it was nothing compared to what Kisha had just taken out.
That last batch only had pickled vegetables, a few greens, some jerky, and a little meat, but now, there was everything: fresh vegetables, piles of meat, and even seafood.
Now that the children had seen the ingredients and were jumping around in excitement, the adults could only look at Kisha with a mix of embarrassment and hesitation. Deep down, they wanted to rejoice at the unexpected generosity, but pride and worry about what Kisha might think of them kept their emotions restrained.
“Alright, alright,” Kisha said with a small smile, breaking the silence. “You can treat us some other time, but for now, just let the children eat until they’re full. It’s not every day they get to eat like this, right?”
Her tone was gentle, not condescending. She wasn’t trying to point out their shortcomings, only to remind them that their children’s happiness mattered more than pride. They could always repay her kindness later, but for now, it was enough to accept it. After all, she lacked nothing and simply wanted to share what she had.
Ding!

[You received Devotion from mortals +180]
[You received Devotion from mortals +150]
[You have received Authority +1]
Kisha blinked in surprise as the notifications appeared before her eyes. She hadn’t expected that simply sharing supplies with these people would grant her an increase in ‘Authority’. After all, gaining such a thing wasn’t easy, as it was tied to a god’s very divinity.
Looking around, she saw the people gazing at her with eyes full of gratitude and reverence, as if they were silently thanking the heavens for sending her. Their sincerity made her heart soften, and a gentle smile curved her lips.
It seemed these people truly understood gratitude, unlike those who, in her past lives, had taken kindness for granted, demanding more the moment a hand was offered. Seeing genuine appreciation now made her chest feel light.
For the first time in a long while, Kisha felt her faith in people slowly being restored.
Kisha smiled warmly and urged them to start cooking with the ingredients she had provided. To break the lingering awkwardness, Grandma Aldens took charge and began giving instructions, telling everyone to start preparing the vegetables and meat while the stew in the pots and woks continued to simmer.
