Chapter 934: Chapter 934 Facing The Mutated Zombie
Gritting his teeth, Duke activated his spear’s skill, Stab. He pulled the weapon back, preparing to unleash the skill with all his strength.
“What a weak attack.”
Duke froze as he heard Kisha’s voice; it even sounded mocking and taunting as ever. His eyes darted toward the rubble in front of the mutated zombie. Slowly, something moved, and the crumbled wall fell away, revealing Kisha. Even the mutated zombie had stopped its assault, its hands seemingly stuck on something.
“Hehehe… got one of your arms,” Kisha added with a sly grin.
Then, with a sudden gust of wind that seemed to appear from nowhere, the dust cleared. Duke saw Kisha standing steadily, completely unscathed, with a glowing, rainbow-like wall surrounding her. It was only then that he realized she was standing inside her ‘Rainbow Cube,’ perfectly protected.
Earlier, as the mutated zombie lunged at her, Kisha activated her ‘Perception Skill’ to slow its movements. Before its claw could strike, she summoned her ‘Rainbow Cube’, not to trap the mutated zombie, but to shield herself.
The ‘Rainbow Cube’ skill was nearly indestructible as long as she maintained it with her mana. Kisha enclosed herself within it just in time, and the zombie’s attack struck harmlessly against the barrier.
Even when she was sent flying and slammed into the wall, the skill absorbed the impact, leaving her completely unharmed, while the collapsing debris posed no threat at all.
Even as the mutated zombie relentlessly attacked, the ‘Rainbow Cube nullified every strike, leaving not a single scratch on its surface. Watching this, Kisha couldn’t help but think of another potential use for her skill; she nearly laughed out loud.
After all, the ‘Rainbow Cube’ was ridiculously overpowered; it was no wonder it was graded EX, even higher than SSS. Its true potential depended entirely on the creativity of the user.
Seeing Kisha safe, and even taunting the mutated zombie, Duke finally exhaled the breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, his fear of losing her melting away for a moment.
He stumbled backward, almost losing his footing, but then noticed Kisha signaling him. Composing himself, he readied his spear and activated its ‘Stab’ skill.
At the same time, Kisha trapped the mutated zombie’s right arm within her ‘Rainbow Cube,’ immobilizing it and holding it in place for Duke’s attack.
“Grrr!” The mutated zombie struggled to free its arm, unaware that Kisha’s ‘Rainbow Cube’ had already ensnared it.
Overconfident, it assumed it had already caught Kisha and was about to plummet her to her death, failing to check if she was truly in its grasp. Because of this arrogance, it didn’t notice the skill wrapping tightly around its arm.
When Duke activated his ‘Stab’ skill, the mutated zombie had no chance to evade. Then, black blood splattered as the attack struck, forcing the creature to leap back several steps.
“Damn! It cut its own arm like a lizard shedding its tail… will it grow back?” Kisha muttered as she watched the mutated zombie put distance between itself and the two of them.
“Well, maybe it knew that if your Stab skill hit, it would be as good as dead. After all, your skill can penetrate any defense and doubles your strength. Unfortunately… even with the boost, your attack would only amount to 800, while this bastard’s defenses are at 3,000. You’re still a bit short of truly breaking through and finishing it off,” Kisha said with mock anger, teasing Duke.
Duke looked like he had just missed a prime opportunity, while the mutated zombie regarded them both warily. Kisha had spoken aloud intentionally; even though the zombie was intelligent enough to possibly understand her words, she wanted it to focus on Duke.
By making the creature wary of him, she could create an opening for herself to strike with her magic scroll once they pinned the mutated zombie in place.
Kisha wanted the mutated zombie to be so focused on Duke that it wouldn’t even think about her. Sure enough, as soon as the creature sensed the danger from Duke activating his skill, it acted preemptively.
Before Duke’s attack could even land, the mutated zombie chose to sever its own arm, attempting to protect its body from being pierced.
As a result, the mutated zombie lost its arm, which dangled helplessly against the outer layer of Kisha’s ‘Rainbow Cube’. She deactivated the skill, letting the severed limb drop to the ground.
Exchanging a determined glance with Duke, they launched a coordinated attack on the mutated zombie. This time, Kisha made sure to protect both herself and Duke with the ‘Rainbow Cube’, ensuring that even a counterattack from the mutated zombie couldn’t kill them with a single strike.
Noticing her stats climbing to x5, Kisha realized the zombie wave was closing in. A wide grin spread across her face as she attacked with renewed vigor, feeling her strength surge, now at 1,955 points, enough to rival the mutated zombie’s power.
Even Duke could feel the force behind her punches; the gusts of wind created by her strikes were almost tangible.
To amplify their power, Kisha enveloped herself in her aura, and Duke did the same, wrapping both his body and spear in aura, ready to unleash a synchronized assault.
Thanks to their coordinated assault, the mutated zombie was forced to take step after step backward. Duke swung his spear, aiming for its chest, but the creature stepped back, narrowly evading the strike, and even tried to bite down on his weapon.
Seizing the opening, Kisha stepped back to create space and spun around, executing a floating tornado kick. Her reflexes were too quick for the mutated zombie to react, and the kick struck its back. Instead of biting Duke’s spear, the zombie lost its balance and stumbled toward him.
Duke quickly retracted the spear, using his body to pivot the blade until it lodged into the zombie’s shoulder blade. Yet, even at the last moment, the mutated zombie refused to give up.
Twisting its body awkwardly, it managed to avoid a fatal strike to its head, taking the spear in the shoulder instead. It then dropped to the ground and rolled away, creating distance from both Duke and Kisha.
“This guy is really like a cockroach… so hard to kill…” Kisha murmured, stepping closer to Duke as she stared at the mutated zombie struggling to stay on its feet. Its body was now riddled with wounds.
Feeling her strength surge again, she shot Duke a mischievous smile. He could only smile helplessly in return, realizing she was deliberately stalling for time and using him as bait for the creature.
Even though Kisha had kicked it from behind, the hatred-filled glare the mutated zombie directed at Duke was unmistakable, and Kisha couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Hubby, it looks like this guy really hates you for stabbing its shoulder.”
“Grrr,” Duke grunted in response.
“See?! It even growled at you, tsk tsk…” Kisha teased, happily circling the zombie once more. Duke shook his head helplessly, but not long after, the distant cacophony of the approaching zombie wave reached their ears.
It was Kisha’s cue; her stats had finally peaked.
“Oh, now… now it’s time to end the play, hubby,” she said with a sly smile.
“I’m glad you said that. I’m getting tired of playing around with it too…” Duke replied, a devilish smirk spreading across his face. He intensified the aura surrounding his spear, concentrating most of it at the blade, ready for the finishing strike.
Kisha readied all her floating daggers, enveloping them in her aura and sending them to attack the mutated zombie from every direction. At the same time, Duke launched a connected assault with his spear.
He jabbed at the zombie’s ribs, but it managed to evade. Undeterred, Duke manipulated the spear’s trajectory using his arms and body, executing spinning charges, broad swings, and powerful thrusts in rapid succession, ensuring the creature had no moment to recover.
Kisha’s floating daggers exploited every opening, preventing the mutated zombie from escaping. With their combined assault, the creature’s formidable defenses began to wear down, most of the damage coming from Kisha’s relentless attacks, her enhanced stats amplifying both her aura and the lethality of each strike.
It even seemed like she might not need the intermediate magic scroll to finish off the mutated zombie. After all, Kisha never stuck to a rigid plan; she always adapted her strategy to fit the situation. Still, she made sure to prepare it, just in case.
As if summoning its final burst of strength, the mutated zombie let out a deafening shriek that seemed to pierce both Kisha and Duke’s heads.
Before Duke could weaken from the sound, he activated his ‘Stab’ skill and poured every ounce of his aura into his spear. With a powerful throw, the spear plunged into the zombie’s stomach, abruptly silencing its shriek.
Kisha didn’t have time to land a finishing blow. With the approaching zombie wave closing in, she quickly scooped up Duke, using her telekinesis to float them both out of immediate danger. The mutated zombie, still reeling from the attack, glared at them as they hovered above.
