Martial Arts Worlds - Chapter 773
Chapter 773: Still the Best
Early on Sunday morning.
Kiernan stood on a green field with a golf club in hand and swung it, sending the white ball soaring through the air.
It flew far away.
It went over the hole and into the thick woods.
“Sigh…”
Kiernan let out a sigh.
“Haha, I can see that this is your first time playing golf. You don’t really have good form, but you have so much strength that it doesn’t matter.
“As Martial Kings, we have to control our strength in every aspect of life because everything we touch can turn into a weapon if we’re not careful.
“I learned golf to learn control.”
Robert said, and he then put his own ball in the grass and swung his club with precision and fluidity, sending it flying straight towards the hole.
It landed close to the hole but kept rolling a slight distance away.
“Nice shot.”
Kiernan said.
“I think I could’ve gone pro, but Martial Kings aren’t allowed. What a shame indeed!”
Robert said with a wry smile.
There were many sports in the world, but most were limited to certain martial rank, and those who have reached Martial King were pretty much forbidden from pursuing careers in professional sports.
Most sports had Martial Grandmaster as the limit, but some had even lower limits.
Robert and Kiernan walked down the green field, arrived at the location of their balls, and Kiernan went to the woods to try to find his.
Eventually, he found it tucked underneath a bush, and he needed two more swings to eventually put it in the hole.
Robert, on the other hand, only needed one swing, and the ball rolled into the hole.
“That’s the end of the course. I would like to build the world’s biggest golf course here and have some professional golfers come here for a tournament.
“I think it would bring good publicity to New Rakuya.”
Robert Masters said.
“Why aren’t you doing that then?”
Kiernan asked.
“…Well, others don’t see my vision. Golfing is a second-rate sport according to the members of my government, compared to martial arts, that is.
“It is a lot of tax payers money to pay for the course, and they think that the public doesn’t appreciate it being used in that way.”
Robert said.
“Even a Grand President such as yourself can’t do as you wish, hmm?”
Kiernan said.
“One man’s decisions cannot govern the nation. It is a recipe for disaster. I don’t mind it, though.”
Robert said.
Kiernan nodded, and he then checked the time on his wristwatch and saw that the last day of the nationals starts in a couple of hours.
“By the way, I wanted to ask you to do something.”
Robert suddenly said.
“Yes, what is it?”
Kiernan turned to look at him.
“…Would you like to give the championship trophy to the winner? I think it would mean a lot for those kids if you—a legend in their mind—gave them the trophy.
“You are also the reigning champion, and it would be like passing the torch.”
Robert said.
“I don’t mind doing that.”
Kiernan said.
“Good. I was supposed to do it this year, but with you here, it doesn’t feel right.”
Robert said.
Kiernan nodded, put his golf club back in the bag, took the golf cart with Robert, and headed back to his villa.
…
“Wohoo!”
“Go!”
“Come on!”
The sky had turned dark, and bright lights of the stadium danced all around the ring, where two bloody fighters were going head-to-head.
It was the Grand Finals of the Annual Nationals Tournament, and it was between Karuza High and Meredica High!
It had been a long match, and it had come to the final fighters of both teams.
“Come on!”
Coach Jin shouted from the bench, and the rest of the members of the team were also cheering loudly for Saro.
Saro was the current ace of Karuza High, and according to many, he was the best high school fighter in the nation.
However, his opponent, Remix, wasn’t lacking at all.
They traded blows, blood spewed, and the crowd was on the edge of their seats, unsure of who would emerge victorious.
Remix slipped past Saro’s punches and brought his overhead punch crashing down on Saro’s head.
It was heading close to his face, and this punch had been able to end many of his opponents with a single blow.
Saro’s eyes reflected the sight of the big fist coming to his face.
In the last possible moment, Saro ducked underneath the punch, tackled into Remix’s legs, and took him down to the ground!
A takedown!
“Come on, dude! Why aren’t you insulting my mother anymore, huh? Keep running your mouth, come on!”
Saro angrily shouted and kept hammering his fists at Remix’s face, who desperately hid behind his block.
Before the nationals, and all year really, there had been growing tension and rivalry between Remix and Saro.
Remix had been very publicly insulting Saro and his family for weeks leading up to the competition.
“Humph!”
Remix tried to shift his hip weight to knock Saro off him but failed, and Saro punched him hard in the cheek.
They then rolled around on the ground, their arms flailing wildly as they fought, and Saro suddenly managed to put him in a headlock.
“Ah!”
Meredica High’s coach’s eyes widened in shock.
“Get out of that position, Remix! That is not good. That is horrible!”
Remix couldn’t breathe, and his vision started to blur as he struggled to break free from Saro’s grip.
“Ahhhhhhh!”
Saro screamed, squeezed harder, and felt Remix turn limp in his arm, and the referee came to break up the fight.
“Match is over!”
The referee waved the match off and then raised Saro’s arm high in the air.
“The winner is Saro Maniac, and the winner of the nationals is Karuza High from Irio!”
Karuza High’s students and fans erupted in cheers and celebration.
They had done it!
Three-peat!
“Yessssssss!”
Coach Jin was ecstatic and hugged his fighters as they were crying tears of joy.
It had been very nervous last year ever since Kiernan’s graduation, as there had been so much talk about their team.
Whether they could live up to the hype and whether Karuza High was going to be able to win the championship.
There were many loud voices that were saying that those three years of Karuza High’s success were only because of Kiernan and that they would go back to being a bottom-ranked team.
They were wrong.
They were still the best!
