Chapter 730: Immortals, Emperors, and Legends

Kiernan touched the bulletproof glass window with his smoking hand, and it started to turn to ash.

With a hole now in the window, Kiernan jumped through and landed before the dangling woman.

He swung his hand at the chains, trying to cut through them, but his hand didn’t go quite through.

“It’s an Unknown Chain. High Elves made it. It was created to bound Gods and Devils in the underworld, so I don’t think you can simply cut through it.”

The woman said.

Kiernan chuckled and then covered the chain in his darkness.

Nothing happened to the chain, but shortly after, it started disappearing into the darkness until it was completely gone.

Now freed, the woman landed on the ground—in a very weakened state—and since she hadn’t used her legs in eight hundred years, she kept sitting down weakly.

“I-I am still pretty weak… because of this collar…”

She grabbed the collar with a hateful look and wanted to rip it apart, but she had no strength to accomplish that.

In that moment, Kiernan flashed the key at her and unlocked the collar with an audible “click” sound, and it fell to the ground.

“Ahh…”

She let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.

For the first time in eight hundred years, her martial soul breathed freely, and it was beating new life into her.

She had forgotten how it felt to have a martial soul. It was the same as living without a heart in complete darkness.

“Ah…”

She dropped her head low, softly closed her eyes, and from her slender back, petaled wings sprouted out like that of a butterfly.

The petaled wings were beautiful—red, orange, and yellow in color—like a sunset in the sky.

“Butterfly Goddess—that’s my Martial Ability.”

She said softly.

“Killer of the Red Sun—may I ask for your real name?”

Kiernan said.

After Xerxus told about her, he did his fair share of studying about this so-called “Killer of the Red Sun,” and there were some historic texts about her.

However, none of them mentioned her real name.

It was probably not included because the government didn’t want people to think of her as human, like the rest, but as a devil in disguise.

“Renette.”

She said.

While struggling to stand, she traced her hand down her silky smooth thigh and then placed it on her chest, feeling the rapid beat of her heart.

During her years of imprisonment, she had begun to think that she was not actually alive anymore but just a ghost stuck in the mortal world.

She was lucky to finally know that she was still in the world of the living.

“Are you ready to go?”

Kiernan asked.

“…Let me try.”

She said and flapped her wings.

Slowly, she started to hover slightly above the ground, and a relieved look appeared on her face.

“I might not be able to use my legs, but I can still fly.”

“Mm.”

Kiernan stepped out and entered the elevator with Renette, allowing the doors to close behind them.

He took out his phone and forced the elevator to descend another floor down.

“What is the plan?”

Renette asked.

“I am going to recruit people. The prison guards will take swift control of floors above the fifth, but I have closed off their access to other floors.

“It, of course, doesn’t last long, as I am sure they will have other ways of bypassing the elevator lockdowns.

“The navy has definitely been alerted of the prison break already, and they will be coming from the Navy Fort.

“Navy Fort is three hours away from the Downed Prison. They were built rather close in proximity to each other so navy can send help quickly.

“Thus, the Prison Warden will try to buy time to slow us down. They don’t know that you have been freed, but they still know that it is a possibility.

“We will gather the prisoners and make our escape before the navy arrives.”

Kiernan said.

“…Prison Warden Mars is Martial Emperor. It won’t be easy to get through him.”

Renette said.

“Aren’t you Immortal?”

Kiernan asked.

“I am, but I have been imprisoned for who knows how long it has been now… I will not be in my full strength.”

Renette said.

“Well, good thing that we are arriving on the Martial Emperor floor about… now.”

Ding!

The elevator door opened up, and they arrived on a dimly lit floor with five individuals chained against the wall.

The stench of piss, waste, and rot filled the air.

“They are in worse condition than I am. They won’t be of any use. I think they are so drugged that they don’t even know what realm they are in.”

Renette said with a frown.

Kiernan walked to them and tried snapping his fingers in front of their faces.

None of them reacted. They didn’t even open their eyes. They just kept drooling with vacant expressions on their faces.

“They drugged them in case they managed to escape. Martial Emperors pose a threat to the Prison Warden… Did they try to drug you?”

Kiernan asked.

“Mere mortal drugs do not work on me. I am an Immortal being, after all. Even though Martial Emperor stage seems so close to the Immortal stage, the difference is bigger than you could even imagine.”

Renette said.

“We will have to do it without them then.”

Kiernan turned around, headed to the elevator with Renette following behind him, and with the doors slowly closing, Fen sneakily slipped inside.

He was using the Ethereal Bond, so he was invisible to Renette, and despite being Immortal, she couldn’t even sense him.

In that moment, they arrived at the ninth floor, and the brightness was overwhelming.

Since she spent eight hundred years in basically darkness, Renette immediately turned around and shielded her eyes with her wings.

Kiernan stepped out of the elevator and immediately stopped as about twenty Martial Legends turned to stare at him.

They were out of their cages.

There were both men and women, all with a fierce look in their eyes, ready for battle.

“Calm down…”

In that moment, a dark-eyed man stepped forward and stopped the other Martial Legends from doing anything stupid.

“We’re in the presence of a celebrity, didn’t you know? That woman over there is the famed Killer of the Red Sun.”

He said with a smirk.

Hearing that name, the Martial Legends looked shocked, as they had talked about her countless times, as they knew they were only a few floors above that legendary criminal.

Now they were right in the presence of her!

“It’s too bright.”

Kiernan waved his hand and darkened some of the lights, but not all of them, so they could see.

With the brightness gone, Renette turned around and floated towards him with her eyes scanning the room.

“You are in charge?”

The dark-eyed man looked at Kiernan with a curious look.

‘Am I? I wonder.’

Kiernan gazed at Renette, who smiled at him innocently and flew behind him before perching herself on his shoulder.

“I am his subordinate.”

Renette said.
