Martial Arts Worlds - Chapter 643
Chapter 643: Great Evil of the World
“Do not fret. I’ll take care of this demonsbane, and you can keep going on with your business like usual!”
The sheriff dropped the used shotgun shells out of the chamber and cocked a fresh round into place.
The townspeople looked at their sheriff with great trust.
Crash!
Kiernan climbed out of the rubble, shook the dust out of his gray hair, and adjusted his clothes with a calm look on his face.
There wasn’t a single mark on his face that would hint that he was hit just now.
BANG! BANG!
In that moment, two gunshots sounded. The hellstorm of shotgun shells rained down around him.
However, Kiernan stayed composed, and he weaved through the hellstorm without a single fear on his face.
To the townspeople, it looked inhumane how he just dodged all those bullets, but he had survived through faster attacks.
Such as against Beast Prince Arazimir, whose attacks were at least twice as fast.
In that moment, the sheriff jumped and hammered his shotgun at Kiernan, but he blocked it with his forearm.
The ground cracked under Kiernan, but he didn’t show any sign of pain.
“Goddamn, your body is strong, demonsbane brat!”
The sheriff acknowledged.
“I know.”
Kiernan took a grip of the sheriff’s collar and tossed him across the air. With his sturdy body, he went through a wall of an old barn.
With Void Step, Kiernan immediately appeared inside the old barn, and across the barn, he saw the sheriff stand right back up.
The old barn was lit only by shafts of sunlight slipping through the cracks in its walls. Dust hung in the air like smoke.
The sheriff stepped forward, boots crunching on straw, the worn double-barrel shotgun gripped tight in his hands.
“Mind getting rid of the shotgun, and let’s have a proper chat. I am not who you think I am.”
Kiernan said.
The sheriff spat tobacco juice onto the floor of the barn.
“This shotgun? Son, this here’s settled more arguments than you’ve had hot meals. It will also end this one.”
With a sigh, Kiernan moved first, zooming in, his Iron Smash fist already coming down like a hammer on an anvil.
The sheriff snapped the shotgun up like a shield, the wood stock catching a strike with a crack of bone on oak.
Crack!
The shotgun was really durable—durable enough to block a strike coming from a Martial King practitioner that had already gone past human limits!
The sheriff snapped the shotgun and tried to smack the buttstock against Kiernan’s chin, but he pulled his head back just in time.
He turned the shotgun completely around, pointed the two barrels up at Kiernan’s face, and the hooked finger pulled the trigger.
Kiernan grabbed the shotgun from its barrel, lifted it up, and at that moment, a blast thundered, shattering rafters above.
Splinters rained down.
“I’ve had enough of you.”
Kiernan forcefully took the shotgun from the sheriff’s hands, pointed it at him, and pulled the trigger.
Click…
An empty sound echoed in his ears.
“It’s empty!”
The sheriff kicked Kiernan in the chest, and he went through several of those hay bales before finally coming to a stop.
He caught the falling shotgun, pushed out the empty rounds, and reloaded it with the fresh batch of shotgun shells.
“…I should probably stop playing this much.”
Kiernan said while lying on the floor, and in that moment, he heard the sheriff shoot yet more of those shotgun shells over at him.
He flipped over the bullets and whipped his leg at the shotgun. The shotgun got kicked to point at the floor, and sheriff accidentally pulled the trigger.
The floor exploded with the force of the shotgun blast, and the sheriff got knocked backwards into a nearby table.
In that moment, Kiernan grabbed the sheriff by his overcoat jacket and hurled him through the barn wall.
SWOOSH!
With immense speed, the sheriff got thrown across the entire town, and when he landed at the ground, the ground got completely shattered beneath him.
“Sheriff!”
“Shit, this Evil God apostle is stronger than we anticipated!”
“This might be the end of our town!”
In that moment, Kiernan walked out of the barn, and the townspeople scurried away in panic.
He slowly walked over to the sheriff, who was still lying on the ground without moving a muscle.
However, in that moment, the sheriff pulled out a matchstick and a cigarette, which he lit up before putting it between his lips.
“Whew!”
He let out a long drag, smiled, and looked at Kiernan, who had sun shining right behind him like a glowing halo.
“I expected my death to come sooner or later. I told my lady about a weekday ago that I’ll probably end up in a body bag before the year is out, so it’s not that surprising.”
The sheriff said with a grin.
“…I should probably kill you since you tried killing me, pretty unreasonably, I must say. I only want to ask you a few questions.”
Kiernan said.
“Hahaha, Demonsbane not interested in killing? Who are you kidding? If that shotgun had shells, you would’ve blasted a hole into me!”
The sheriff said with a laugh.
“The excitement of the battle. It happens. That excitement is now gone alongside my victory. Who is the Great Evil of this world?”
Kiernan asked.
“Well, you Evil God apostles, of course!”
The sheriff said.
“…Candlelight Rippers, who are they?”
“…Why are you asking that? You know them. I know them. Everyone knows them.”
The sheriff said with a frown.
“Pretend like I don’t know anything. Humor me.”
Kiernan said.
“…Candlelight Rippers are a gang of killers. They roam these lands with their wagon of murder trophies, lanterns dangling at the sides of their wagons, and wherever they go, people seem to disappear and die.”
The sheriff said.
“…Candlelight Ripper was heading this way. Would’ve arrived last night if it wasn’t for me. I saved your little precious town. No need to thank me.”
Kiernan said with a chuckle.
“Oh… Demonsbane wants my thanks?”
The sheriff mockingly said.
“You’re just wrong in one thing. I am no demonsbane or Evil God apostle, whatever the fuck that is. My name is Kiernan.”
He said.
“…Is that so?”
The sheriff said while looking thoughtfully at him.
He had to agree that Kiernan wasn’t acting like every other demonsbane that he had met. The demonsbanes he had met usually just wanted to kill him.
Kiernan didn’t fight as aggressively as others, and so far, he hadn’t killed anybody.
“…If what you say is correct, what are you doing here?”
“I am here to kill the most evil scumbag that you can think of. Just point me in their direction, and I’ll take care of it.”
Kiernan said.
He believed that this world was another test. He had to kill the Great Evil of this world. It was a hint given to him by Answer.
“You should’ve said so sooner, hahahaha!”
The sheriff laughed.
