Capítulo 592: You don’t get a say here

The driver was already slumped, trembling ever since Selina’s earlier words had sent terror shooting through him.

If there really was a full investigation, his son would never see a cent of the promised money. Years ago, he had abused his wife until she left, and by chance he later crossed paths with Hannah. On the surface, he was a driver for the Hill Family, but in secret, he’d always been doing Hannah’s dirty work.

This time he’d offended the wrong people, and Hannah promised him that if he got rid of Selina, she would take care of his troubles and pay his son ten million.

The driver agreed without a second thought.

Even when Selina dragged him back to the Hill estate, he didn’t panic. He’d always believed Hannah and Matt were the real masters of the Hill Family. As for Selina, this so-called “young lady” who had just returned—she was nothing but a hanger-on, living at their mercy.

As long as Hannah opened her mouth, Selina would have to give her face and let it go as if nothing had happened.

But instead… Selina didn’t give the slightest face at all!

Selina’s words left Hannah unable to step down gracefully. Hannah bit down hard on her teeth.

“Even if you don’t trust me, there’s no need to bother the head of the family with this! You’ve just returned to the Hill Family. They dote on you, but that doesn’t give you the right to throw tantrums! Selina, don’t be so selfish. Just because you suffered a little grievance doesn’t mean the whole family needs to fight your battles. Can’t you, for once, be considerate of your elders?”

Selina slowly lifted her head, her calm gaze locking directly onto Hannah.

“A small matter? When I was in that car crash, Hill Lady, you said it was a small matter. After you heard I’d been in an accident, you still said it was a small matter. And now, with evidence of attempted murder right in front of you, you still say it’s a small matter.

So tell me, in your eyes, what counts as a big matter? Or do you simply think this ‘direct bloodline of the Hill Family’ isn’t worth anything—that if I die, so be it?”

Hannah felt as though a knife had been driven straight into her face. Her throat caught painfully.

“Maybe it was a misunderstanding. The driver went toward West Cliff by mistake—he might have just taken the wrong road. And if you hadn’t insisted he stop, he wouldn’t have nearly driven off the cliff and endangered you. When you think about it, isn’t that partly your fault too? Besides, you’re standing here alive, aren’t you? Haven’t you ever heard of letting things go?”

“A misunderstanding?”

Selina gave a soft, cutting laugh, savoring the word. “Hill Lady, the truth of whether this was a mistake or an attempted murder isn’t difficult to uncover.

But it seems some people prefer to muddy the waters, handing out blame equally. Tell me then—what exactly was my mistake?

Was it my mistake not to obediently die? My mistake to return to the Hill Family? My mistake to take back the inheritance and the title of ‘Hill Family heiress’?”

Her words fell like blades, silencing the entire room.

Matt’s face turned instantly ugly.

His son, Philip Hill, immediately exploded. “What kind of attitude is that?! You can’t even take a little criticism? Do you know how much of our time you’ve wasted? You didn’t even die, so why the drama? It was just a minor accident—do you need to broadcast it to the whole world and demand everyone fight for your justice? Stop being so damn selfish!”

Selina merely gave him a sidelong glance.

“When the perpetrator shows false remorse, and I refuse to forgive, suddenly I’m the one being accused of pushing too hard. If that’s how Matt raised you, then all I can say is the Hill Family truly cannot be trusted in your hands.”

“You—!” Philip sputtered, livid.

“But Selina,” Ava chimed in with wounded innocence, “isn’t everyone just saying this because we care about you? We’re your family. We’d never hurt you!

Yet ever since you came back, you’ve offended everyone, misjudged everyone’s good intentions. We were only worried about you…”

“So lively? What’s going on here?”

At that moment, a man’s voice cut off Ava’s words. Aaron stepped forward, and the instant his eyes landed on Selina, his heart sank.

Even though he knew most of Selina’s injuries were makeup for effect, the sight still made his chest tighten.

His gaze shifted to Logan, as if questioning him: Why didn’t you protect her?

Logan only arched a brow coolly.

He wasn’t refusing to protect her—he was waiting for the Hill Family to expose themselves.

Aaron understood. Selina had returned, and this was the moment to establish her authority.

So he asked, “Selina, what happened?”

Ava, terrified Selina might seize Aaron’s attention, hurriedly jumped in, “Big Brother, it’s nothing really, Selina—”

“I’m asking Selina, not you,” Aaron cut her off sternly. “Ava, did your father never teach you not to interrupt when others are speaking?”

Ava’s face flushed crimson. “I—I just…”

“Selina, what happened?” Aaron ignored her completely and asked again.

Selina smiled faintly. “There was a car accident. This driver took me to West Cliff. If Logan hadn’t arrived in time, I’d be dead at the bottom of the ravine by now.”

Aaron’s gaze sharpened instantly, shooting straight toward the driver.

The driver trembled, his whole body shaking harder and harder under Aaron’s stare.

Hannah and Matt exchanged a glance. Both knew—it was over. This driver couldn’t be saved.

Ava, blinded by jealousy at Aaron’s concern for Selina, failed to read the room. Her expression twisted as she protested, “Big Brother! The facts haven’t been investigated yet. How can you take Selina’s word alone? What if she’s wronging an innocent man? People will only say Selina’s relentless and unforgiving—”

“Evidence is right here, and you call it one-sided?”

Aaron’s gaze cut toward Philip. “You’d better take your adopted daughter to get her head checked. If she can’t read evidence, then she should shut her mouth. Understood?”

Philip, spoiled his entire life, had no grasp of the situation. Seeing Aaron—a junior in age—daring to insult him, he was about to snap back when Hannah quickly grabbed his wrist.

Ava’s eyes filled with tears. “Big Brother, you actually scold me for the sake of someone who just came back!”

Aaron’s eyes narrowed, his tone suddenly sharp. “And why shouldn’t I? Ava, don’t tell me you think you’re special.”

“I…”

“Your grandfather was an adopted son of the Hill Family. You’re an adopted daughter of that adopted line. You have no blood ties here. I let you call me ‘big brother’ out of courtesy, not because you have any right to interfere with my sister. Do you understand?”

Ava nearly burst into tears, shocked by how terrifying Aaron could be. Still unwilling, she stammered, “But—but in this day and age, who really believes in so many murder plots? I think Selina just misunderstood the driver…”

Aaron still wore that faint smile, but his eyes turned ice cold.

“Whether it was a misunderstanding isn’t up to you. The victim doesn’t believe it was—and Ava, as someone potentially connected to the perpetrator, you’ll shut your mouth now. Understood?”

He paused, but the unspoken warning hung heavy in the air—if she didn’t shut up, he’d have no problem shutting her up himself.

And when Aaron called Ava “connected to the perpetrator,” every gaze in the room shifted toward Matt and Hannah.

After all—who stood to gain the most from Selina’s death?
