Capítulo 589: Who Do You Think You Are!

Hannah sighed helplessly. “Let’s just wait a little longer. It’s fine. No matter when Selina arrives, we’ll wait for her. After all, she’s the long-lost young lady of the Hill Family.”

The moment her words fell, the sharp screech of brakes cut through the air—

Two cars pulled up right at the Hill Family gates, drawing everyone’s attention.

As soon as Logan stepped out, people immediately recognized him.

“That’s Mr. Reid.”

“Which Mr. Reid?”

“The Reid showing up at the Hill Family—who else could it be? That’s Logan, the head of Reid Group.”

“So that’s Logan? My God, seeing him in person for the first time… I didn’t expect him to carry such presence!”

And on top of that, he was strikingly handsome.

Several socialites and society wives sneaked a few extra glances—after all, who doesn’t enjoy looking at someone so good-looking?

But if Logan was here, then Selina must have come as well, right?

Hannah exchanged a glance with Matt and bit her lip in secret.

Impossible. Selina had to be dead. That driver was someone Hannah herself had trained. She had given him plenty of benefits—he would’ve carried out the task for sure. How could Selina still be alive?

Hannah’s face shifted, changing color again and again. Even Matt’s expression darkened at the thought that Selina might actually have survived.

In the end, Hannah forced herself to step forward, biting back her irritation and putting on a welcoming smile. “Logan, you’re finally here.”

Logan didn’t bother to play along. “Ms. Hill, I don’t think we’re that familiar.”

Hannah’s face drained a shade paler, and she cursed silently.

Sure enough, just like that little wretch Selina, her husband was equally revolting!

But with so many eyes watching, and with Logan being the head of Reid Group—someone she absolutely needed on her side—Hannah quickly shot a glance at Ava in the distance.

She had to keep Logan under her control, just like she had with Victoria and Selina—make them lose their lovers, lose their families, lose everything.

So no matter how much she despised it, she had to push her niece to get close to Logan.

—If her own daughter couldn’t pull it off, then her niece would. Surely Logan wasn’t such a saint that he’d turn down one beautiful young woman after another practically throwing themselves at him, right?

Catching the signal, Ava stepped forward with a delicate, bashful expression, about to speak—only for Logan to cut her off without giving her the slightest chance.

“I wonder, Ms. Hill, what are you and Old Mr. Hill doing standing out here?” Logan asked flatly.

Ava’s carefully practiced shyness shattered in an instant. She bit her lip in frustration.

Hannah’s eyes flickered, and she quickly put on a pitiful, self-sacrificing air. “We’ve been waiting for Selina, of course. Since she just returned home, I, as family, wanted to give her a proper welcome—so she wouldn’t feel neglected. But… we’ve been waiting for over an hour. I thought maybe she wasn’t coming. Thank goodness she finally did, or else all this waiting would’ve been in vain.”

The words painted her as both resilient and wronged, while subtly calling out Selina for being “inconsiderate.”

No one dared say anything outright, but judging from their looks, many were clearly displeased with Selina.

Making her elders wait outside for so long, with no explanation? That wasn’t just willful—it was downright disrespectful.

Hannah’s gaze gleamed.

Even if Logan knew Selina was late because of a car accident, so what? With so many people criticizing Selina, if Logan kept defending her, the blame would fall on him too.

So of course he wouldn’t—

And yet, the very next moment, Logan nodded calmly and stepped aside. “Didn’t you say you wanted to welcome Selina, Ms. Hill? She’s right there in the car. Go ahead.”

Hannah: “…”

Logan was telling her to go “welcome” Selina?!

“Mr. Reid, I…”

“Mr. Reid, how can you say that?” Ava’s eyes welled with tears, her every gesture radiating the delicate shyness of a pampered young lady. She bit her lip in grievance, then forced herself to steady her trembling voice as she met Logan’s gaze.

“My aunt and grandfather have been waiting here for so long. As elders, it should be Selina who comes over to thank them. But because she was late, Grandpa has been standing here for over an hour—shouldn’t she at least apologize?”

Hiss—

The crowd collectively drew in a sharp breath.

This Ava… she was bold. Too bold.

Though only a foster daughter of the Hill Family, she’d been spoiled and doted on all these years, treated like royalty. She was certain Logan would be moved by her words.

Besides, she knew men nowadays weren’t interested in fragile little flowers. What caught their attention was exactly her kind of bold defiance, her willingness to speak up against them. Surely that was what would draw Mr. Reid’s eye.

Logan lifted his lids, his dark gaze boring into her.

Ava’s heart leapt—see, Mr. Reid was already looking at her!

“And you are?”

Suppressing her excitement, Ava lowered her lashes shyly. “My name is Ava. I’m with the Hill Family—”

“The foster daughter of the Hill Family?”

Logan cut her off with a dry chuckle. His tone was cold as he asked, “And since when does a foster daughter get to call the shots in the Hill Family? Was it Old Mr. Hill, himself a ‘foster son,’ who set that precedent? The rightful young lady of the Hill Family has returned—what right do you have to interfere?”

The air went deathly still.

On the surface, Logan was mocking Ava. But in truth, his words landed like a blade aimed straight at Matt.

Matt’s lips went bloodless, fury blazing in his eyes. He nearly lost his footing.

Ava nearly collapsed from indignation. Why? Why would such a perfect man side with Selina? That wretched woman who had returned only to steal what was theirs—who showed up late and humiliated the Hill Family in front of everyone? It was her fault—Selina’s fault!

Logan ignored her entirely, his gaze swinging back to Hannah. “Ms. Hill, didn’t you say you wanted to welcome Selina? Then go on.”

“Mr. Reid, I—”

“Logan, no need to waste words on them. Let’s ask the driver instead—see what really happened!”

Just then, Ethan stepped out of the car, shoving forward the driver Jack had in custody. He barked coldly, “Tell everyone why Selina was ‘late.’ Speak!”

Seeing the Hill Family grounds before him, the driver’s courage swelled. He immediately denied it. “Mr. Reid, Mr. Drake, I don’t understand what you’re talking about—”

Hannah’s face shifted in panic. “What is this—”

“Shut up!” Ethan snapped with a cold laugh. “Logan, he’s all yours.”

The driver faltered under the killing intent in Logan’s eyes, fear rolling off him as he swallowed hard. “W-what are you going to do? You’re not planning to force a confession, are you? I’m a Hill Family driver, I—”

“A Hill Family driver, bold enough to plot against the Hill Family’s young lady?” Logan’s voice was like ice. “Sounds like you’ve lived long enough.”

Shock rippled through the crowd.

What… what did that mean?

The driver had plotted against Selina—that’s why she had been “late”?!

The man trembled, fear stark on his face. But then he caught sight of Hannah slowly shaking her head, and his resolve seemed to settle once more.
