Chapter 573: Digging Their Own Grave
“Reid Family Group is dealt with?”
Logan nodded. “It won’t be long before Reid Family Group declares bankruptcy.”
That shattered Owen’s dreams completely.
Selina raised a brow. “But your true identity still hasn’t been revealed. You can’t keep living under the name of Amelia’s son forever.”
Logan’s lips curved in a wry smile. “DNA testing is useless.”
Selina nodded. “So?”
“You and Joe are no longer father and daughter, but in reality, if a paternity test were done, your DNA would still match.”
“And it’s the same with me and Amelia.”
They both knew Joe and Amelia were not their real parents. But…
Selina said, “I’ve thought of something. The Hill Family had drugs that could cloud a person’s mind. Could it be they also had a drug that could alter test results?”
Logan looked at her. “That’s what I suspect as well.”
Logan believed any drug’s effect had limits, but he couldn’t wait until then. He had to deal with Amelia first, then trace where that drug came from—and why both he and Selina had been given ‘parents’ that weren’t truly theirs.
Selina asked curiously, “So what’s your plan?”
Logan’s eyes held meaning. “The way you broke free from Joe—I can do the same with Amelia.”
That was indeed a solution…
Selina blinked. “That reminds me—about Duke William’s proposed business marriage with the Reid Family, and how Amelia once saved Miss Paula’s life.”
Logan’s smile deepened. “Mm. Looks like you and I are thinking the same thing, Mrs. Reid.”
…
These past few days, Amelia had been utterly humiliated.
Reid Family Group collapsed, its stock plummeting, only one step away from bankruptcy.
Who would have thought a corporation as vast as Reid Family Group could fall so fast, so suddenly, without warning?
Once, Amelia had been the lofty Madam Reid, untouchable. But now, everyone knew Reid Family Group’s downfall was her and Owen’s fault, and gossip spread like wildfire.
They said she wasn’t half the woman Anna had been. With Anna around, Reid Family Group had thrived. Even Daniel had only found his footing with Anna’s help.
In the end, Amelia not only forced her way in as the mistress who destroyed her sister, she also dragged Reid Family Group to bankruptcy, bringing Perry Family down with it.
So much for a “lucky foster daughter.” She was clearly a jinx. Perry Family had no eyes at all, abandoning the true heiress Anna for her.
Amelia’s head throbbed violently, her face twisted. No—there was still a way. There had to be…
“Dad, Miss Paula says if she can marry Logan, she’ll put up another two hundred billion. You just have to make Logan marry her. You’re his real father—he has to obey you!”
Owen’s desperate plea rang out from nearby.
Amelia’s head snapped up as a sudden thought struck her.
Yes. Yes! No matter what, she was still Logan’s biological mother!
Daniel growled in frustration. “Can you stop dreaming? You really think Logan can still be controlled by me?”
Even if Logan could be, was Selina someone so easy to deal with?
Amelia rushed to him. “Daniel, Daniel, it can work! Even if Reid Family Group is gone, Logan is my son. If he refuses, it would be unfilial. It can work, it can work!”
“Daniel, help me contact the media. I don’t believe he’d dare reject me in front of them. Just get Logan here, and I’ll handle the rest. Help me—please—this is our last chance!”
Daniel only frowned.
But truly, he had no way out now. He had never imagined that son of his could be so ruthless, leaving them no path to survival.
Even if he had caused Anna’s death, even if he had nearly gotten Logan killed—Logan was still his son. How could he dare treat him like this?
Amelia was still begging desperately when clarity suddenly struck Daniel. He was the father. In matters of marriage, it was the parents who had the final say.
Yes. Yes…
Two weeks later, Reid Family Group finally collapsed and declared bankruptcy.
Selina couldn’t resist sending a congratulatory message to everyone:
“Back then, Young Master Owen was always worried about whether he could inherit Reid Family Group. Now he doesn’t have to worry anymore! On such a wonderful day, I’ve decided to hand out red envelopes!”
Everyone in SL Group received a “celebration bonus” for Reid Family Group’s bankruptcy.
SL Group employees: “…”
Is our chairwoman out of her mind in love? What does Reid Family Group’s downfall have to do with SL?
Logan chuckled softly when he heard about it. “Count me in as well, then.”
As a result, all of Reid Group’s employees received red envelopes, too—and Logan even sent another round to SL Group’s staff.
The employees, suddenly holding double bonuses, fell silent for a moment. “…” Hmm. Maybe being lovestruck isn’t so bad after all.
But the good mood didn’t last. That afternoon, a bombshell dropped.
Logan was said to be entering a business marriage with Duke William’s daughter!
Everyone was confused. Reid Family Group was already in ruins—how was Amelia still stirring up trouble?
Then Amelia claimed the marriage had been arranged years ago. She had once saved Miss Paula’s life, and a marriage contract had been made then. Paula was supposed to marry Amelia’s “real son.” Selina, Amelia insisted, was shamelessly interfering.
When Selina heard the news, she didn’t even lift her eyelids. “Noted.”
Her secretary asked, “Aren’t you worried?”
Because of the two red envelopes that morning, the entire SL Group had been hoping their chairwoman and Logan would stay blissfully in love.
Selina only smiled faintly. “Don’t worry. A business marriage won’t land on Logan’s head.”
“But…” The secretary hesitated.
Amelia was already preparing to hold a press conference. The marriage contract existed in black and white. Even if Logan refused, Selina could end up branded as the “mistress,” since the contract was real.
Selina’s hand paused mid-page. “When’s the press conference?”
“Tomorrow afternoon.”
Selina nodded. “Good.”
It seemed tomorrow afternoon would be the time to settle everything.
After the secretary left, Selina called Damien with a smile. “Big brother, do me a favor.”
Damien had already seen the news and was about to ask about it when he heard Selina’s request.
He raised a brow in curiosity. “Go on.”
Selina lowered her voice and told him her plan. Damien was silent for two seconds, then said, “Selina… for something like kidnapping, you should really call your second brother.”
Selina clicked her tongue. “Don’t nitpick—that’s not the point. Anyway… hmph, you get it.”
“Amelia and Owen really doomed themselves by crossing you. They’ve dug their own graves.”
Damien answered calmly, “Don’t worry, it’ll be done. I’ll be watching the live broadcast tomorrow afternoon.”
Selina nodded and hung up.
Just then, her secretary returned with a complicated look. “Chairwoman, Miss Paula is here to see you.”
Resting her chin on her hand, Selina thought—if Paula hadn’t come to her, she would have gone to Paula anyway. “Let her in.”
Paula strutted into Selina’s office with her chin held high, full of arrogance. “Selina, divorce Logan. He’s mine. You don’t stand a chance.”
Selina looked at Paula and slowly smiled.
