Capítulo 571: A Disgrace Hated by All
“I really don’t know what the Reid Family sees in him. He’s nothing compared to Mr. Reid!”
“Just look at what he’s done. He can’t do this, he can’t do that. Handing Reid Family Group over to him has already cost who knows how much in market value. A corporation as huge as Reid Family Group, ruined in his hands—what a jinx!”
“Forget it, forget it. Even if Reid Family Group collapses, we can still go work somewhere else…”
“True. The ones who should really be worried are the shareholders.”
…
Owen’s face darkened, his eyes burning as he glared at the employees before striding straight into the conference room.
The shareholders were already in session. When they saw Owen and Amelia walk in, their expressions turned strange, even ugly.
Owen pretended not to notice. He firmly believed he was destined, fortune’s favored child. As long as he spoke, the people would follow. So he declared:
“I know the company’s been busy these past few days, so I came to see if there’s anything I can help with.”
But a shareholder only snorted. “Help? It would be enough if you didn’t make things worse. There’s nothing here for you to help with.”
Owen’s face stiffened, but he quickly said, “Uncle Wilson, that’s not fair. Since I’ll be taking over the company in the future, of course I need to watch and learn more…”
At those words, the room’s atmosphere shifted again.
Owen’s reputation was in shambles—practically everyone wanted him gone. And even if everyone knew Logan had set him up, wasn’t it still Owen’s own stupidity that had him walking right into the trap?
After all that, instead of reflecting on himself, he still dreamed of taking over the company…!
The thought of Owen one day becoming chairman of Reid Family Group, with them all forced to obey this fool, made every shareholder sick to their stomach.
Daniel clenched his teeth. The board had just been urging him to abandon Owen and reconcile with Logan.
Reid Group was thriving. Mr. Reid’s name was known everywhere. The perfume competition had only raised Logan’s prestige further—and on top of that, his wife was the chairwoman of SL.
With a son like that, why waste time propping up Owen? That wasn’t just throwing away a watermelon for a sesame seed—it was missing even the sesame seed.
Daniel, of course, didn’t want to give up on Owen. To him, Logan was never even an option…
But with the Reid Family teetering on the brink, could they really afford to keep opposing Logan?
And with Owen’s reputation so rotten, facing opposition from all sides, what if they really made him inherit? What if the shareholders and employees staged a collective strike?
“Dad, really—there’s nothing in the company I can help with?” Owen pressed.
Amelia chimed in, “Daniel, Owen’s been learning a lot recently. He can definitely help. Didn’t you have your eye on that overseas shipping project…”
The executives’ faces tightened, brows furrowed.
One shareholder spoke bluntly. “Mrs. Perry, Young Master Owen—the overseas project requires strong knowledge reserves. Does he know the shipping rates across different countries? The regulations? What exactly we’d be transporting?”
“If Mrs. Perry insists on putting Young Master Owen in charge, then I must ask—does she understand these things? A long-term project leader has to commit a year or more. Can Young Master Owen endure that?”
The words were harsh, leaving Amelia and Owen’s faces twisted with humiliation.
Owen snapped back instantly, trying to look knowledgeable.
“Why would it take a year? Shipping is all about efficiency. It’s not like we’re opening new trade routes—that would take a year. But working with existing overseas lines? That doesn’t need a year!”
“Heh, Young Master Owen, you certainly speak without shame!”
The shareholder’s face turned ashen. “Before making an investment, you need on-site inspections. You must ensure it won’t lose money before you invest. Reid Group has no knowledge of overseas markets, no foundation at all—how could things possibly move quickly?”
Owen thought all these shareholders were idiots. He sneered. “Doing business so timidly—how can you ever grow the company big and strong? Investments always pay off eventually! If you can’t take bold steps, you’re just cowards!”
The shareholder’s face was dark with fury. If Owen weren’t one of Reid Family Group’s heirs, he would have slapped him right then and there.
This useless thing, and they think he can compare with Logan?
“Young Master Owen makes it sound easy. All these years, you haven’t learned a single thing from Mr. Reid, have you?”
The “Mr. Reid” he spoke of was, of course, Logan.
“Investments always pay off? Then let me ask you, Young Master Owen—did your investment in Ronald pay off? What about the 15 billion you poured into that land in South City—did you see any returns?”
One by one, every single venture Owen had touched ended the same way—complete disaster, leaving nothing but losses. And he still had the gall to talk about returns?!
The thing Owen hated most in life was being told he wasn’t as good as Logan. His face twisted hideously, lips twitching as he snapped back:
“That was all Logan’s scheming against me—”
“Really? Mr. Reid schemed against you? Then why were you so easy to scheme against? When you take over Reid Family Group, the business world will only have more scheming, not less! You call yourself Miss Anna’s son—Anna was born with extraordinary business talent. How is it you didn’t inherit even a shred of it?”
Owen’s mind went blank with rage. He lashed out, kicking the shareholder hard in the side, sending the man crashing to the floor with a cry.
Instead of helping him up, Owen actually felt justified, roaring: “Shut your mouth! I’ll be your boss one day—who gave you the guts to speak to me like that? All you ever do is praise Logan, praise Logan—why don’t you try learning Logan’s boldness instead, you useless trash!”
His words gave the shareholders no face at all. Daniel’s expression was already twitching uncontrollably.
But Owen still didn’t know when to stop. “Dad, look at these old fossils! They’re supposed to be working for the Reid Family, yet they openly defy me. I’ll be their boss in the future, so what the hell kind of attitude is this?!”
The shareholder looked utterly disappointed. “Chairman Reid, we’ve stood by you for twenty years! If you insist on letting someone like this inherit the Reid Family, don’t blame us old fossils for throwing in the towel!”
Daniel’s head pounded. The growth of the Reid Family owed much to these very shareholders. If they really took their shares and walked away, the family would be finished. He had just managed to calm them down, and now Owen had offended every last one of them in a single breath.
Owen found it laughable. He burst out laughing. “Not let me inherit? Don’t worry—before you throw in the towel, I’ll fire you first! Today you can go to HR—”
“Owen!” Daniel finally lost control. “Shut your mouth!”
In an instant, the whole room fell deathly silent.
