Capítulo 570: The Last Time
During the time Victoria was imprisoned by Joe, Jeff had wanted to help but couldn’t. In the end, he didn’t even get to see her one last time.
After Victoria disappeared, her fiancé also met with misfortune.
At the time, Jeff wondered—maybe true lovers really were doomed never to end up together.
But now, seeing Logan and Selina together, he felt differently.
Jeff allowed himself the faintest smile and instructed his assistant to handle something.
…
Three days later, Selina received Jeff’s gifts: property, cars, shares—
and even development rights to a plot of land.
Altogether, nearly a hundred billion in value.
Selina opened her mouth as if to say something, then turned to Logan first. “You knew about this, didn’t you?”
Logan’s expression didn’t change. “If you mean these things the head of the Hill Family gave you—yes.”
“Don’t you think it’s a bit too much?”
Logan gave a small smile. “He wants to make it up to you. Accept it. Otherwise, he’ll feel guilty.”
Jeff had always seen taking care of his sister as his duty. After she passed, that guilt transferred to Selina.
Now that he could finally compensate her, how could Jeff feel it was too much? If anything, he probably thought it was still too little.
After all, compared to the Hill Family’s fortune, this was nothing.
Selina asked, “But if he gives me all this, won’t people in the Hill Family object?”
“Anyone who objects will be dealt with. You don’t need to worry.”
Logan truly didn’t give it much thought. First, because a hundred billion in his eyes wasn’t much—and in Jeff’s eyes, it certainly wasn’t either.
It was just a small meeting gift. Besides, it was what Selina rightfully deserved. If anyone in the Hill Family had opinions, the head of the Hill Family would handle it.
Selina gave a soft “mm” of acknowledgment.
Just then, the landline at Sapphire Valley Villa rang.
Miller the butler answered. His face immediately darkened, and Logan instantly knew who was on the line. He gave Miller a look.
Miller then said coolly into the phone, “My apologies, Mrs. Perry, but there’s nothing sir can do.”
Selina blinked. “Amelia still hasn’t given up?”
Owen was practically disgraced beyond redemption, yet Daniel and Amelia insisted on making him inherit the Reid Group. But the outside world resisted fiercely.
And still, Amelia refused to give up. She was determined to find a way.
Logan’s tone carried meaning. “Want to watch the show?”
Selina perked up. “How?”
Logan’s lips curved. “We can watch it live.”
Selina’s eyes widened.
Just then, Jack knocked and entered, handing over a tablet. On the screen was live footage from the Reid Family’s surveillance.
Selina saw Owen in his room, face twisted with rage, on the brink of madness.
He was finished. Logan had pressed him step by step, unknowingly forcing him into an abyss with no escape. What could he do now?
Even random trust-fund brats dared mock him these days. Owen hardly dared step out of his room. He wanted nothing more than to slap Paula and Ronald both across the face, but Paula’s status was far too high. All he could do was swallow his humiliation whole.
So he put all the blame on Logan.
Amelia hung up the phone—when suddenly, the sound of banging and crashing erupted upstairs. She rushed up at once, only to find Owen’s eyes bloodshot, his whole expression crazed.
Amelia startled. “Owen, calm down—”
Owen smashed the glass in his hand, then seized Amelia by the collar, roaring:
“Calm down?! How the hell am I supposed to calm down?! I’m going to kill Logan! I’m going to kill Selina! They’ve driven me to this point, and you want me to calm down?!”
“How am I supposed to calm down? I can’t calm down!”
After his outburst, Owen clutched his head, grinding his teeth in rage. “It’s all your fault! Why did you have to work with Paula? Now I’ve been humiliated like this—it’s all because of you!”
“What do we do now, what do we do?! All the shareholders are against me, the entire world is against me. Everyone’s calling me shameless… It’s all Logan’s scheme! I never wanted to work with Ronald—it was Logan who tempted me into it…”
Amelia’s heart was torn between pain and hatred. “Owen, don’t worry. Mother will help you. Logan only has those old fossils supporting him, but the whole family supports you! Don’t be afraid, I’ll go to the company right now!”
Owen buried his head in his hands. He couldn’t understand how things had turned out this way. How…?
He was the legitimate heir of the Reid Family—so why was he still losing to Logan?
Everything had been arranged perfectly, and yet… Ahhh!
Watching this, Selina was a little surprised. “So Owen’s partnership with Ronald—was that your doing?”
Logan’s tone was meaningful. “I just used a little trick. He took the bait himself. Can’t blame me for that.”
Selina understood.
She just hadn’t expected that for something as small as a perfume competition, Logan had already moved so many pieces behind the scenes.
Even Owen’s cooperation with Ronald—Selina had only learned of it after the fact.
Selina frowned slightly. “But if Owen knew you were the one hosting the competition, why would he still go along with it? Even if the top ten perfumes were released, what did that have to do with him?”
Yes—why would Owen take the bait? If he was simply stupid, then what about Amelia? And even if Owen was a fool, on Logan’s turf, wouldn’t they realize there was a trap waiting?
Logan nodded. Exactly—wouldn’t Owen realize there was a trap?
Of course he would.
So why did Owen and Amelia still walk straight into it, without hesitation?
Suddenly, a spark lit in Selina’s mind. “You have someone close to Owen!”
No—more like…
“Owen thinks you have someone close to him?”
“Mm. Mrs. Reid is clever.” Logan admitted bluntly.
Selina seemed to understand what Logan was planning. She blinked. “So right now, the Reid Group’s shareholders’ meeting must be… pretty lively?”
“Yes.” Logan said evenly. “I promised your uncle I’d deal with my ‘family matters’ quickly. So this will be the last time.”
Selina blinked. Last time?
The last time he would set up Owen? Or… the last time Owen would ever have a chance to be set up?
…
Amelia headed for the company, and Owen quickly washed his face, changed his clothes, and followed.
He had to defend his rights as the “legitimate heir.” The Reid Group had to be his!
“Mom, I have to go—I have to! I want to ask those old fossils what they mean by this!”
Amelia knew she couldn’t stop him. The moment the two of them walked into the company, every employee’s expression turned strange. The warmth from before was gone—only cold ridicule remained.
“Ever heard the saying ‘when a man is shameless, he’s invincible’? Look, this is exactly it. He’s dragged the Reid Group down so badly, made the company hated by all—and he still has the gall to show up here?”
