Magus Supremacy - Chapter 739
Capítulo 739: CHAPTER 739
CHAPTER 739
The wind howled softly through the house as windows clattered, while occasional cracks of thunder rumbled through the air alongside sharp flashes of lightning.
The rain showed no sign of subsiding anytime soon as Grey listened attentively to Yami’s backstory, while Clarice continued staring at the tray of food placed before her.
She had heard her husband’s past a few times before.
The first was when they met, the second occurred when he was educating Finral and Vanessa on the importance of keeping their family name concealed.
Yet one thought continued looping through her mind.
‘… Damn. This meal is getting cold.’
With a sharp exhale, Yami poured the final sip of his drink into his mouth and tossed the bottle aside, where it rolled briefly before settling.
“So you see, that’s how I came to be. A year later, I wandered into this town where I met Clarice, and we decided to build our own home in this place.
I kept training daily, sharpening my abilities, hunting, evolving, trying to grow stronger, all while living with the paranoia that my father would discover me at any moment and that my family… the family I was trying to build then, would be torn away.”
He paused for several seconds, allowing the silence to sink in before continuing.
“… That became my drive to grow stronger until I reached stage 5 a decade later. That was when I finally relaxed and stopped pushing myself to evolve further, choosing to remain at that level.
I built this dojo to train eager youngsters to protect and defend themselves, and in return, I earned a few coins from the effort.”
That was it. Yami stopped speaking as his thoughts drifted back into the past.
His heart ached with every memory as he continued staring at the ceiling, eyes unfocused, before unconsciously muttering,
“Thought I wouldn’t be bothered if I kept my head low. But who would have guessed Hilton had been keeping tabs on me? He sent Azrael to summon me a week ago.”
Grey’s eyes lit up slightly.
‘So that’s the ‘uncle’ Millie mentioned, the one who took Yami away.’
Clarice, hearing this, suddenly lifted her head.
“You know, now that I think about it, you never told me what they wanted with you.”
Yami sighed before letting out a dry chuckle laced with pain.
“It wasn’t anything serious. Hilton wanted to assess my strength for reasons only he understands.
When he realized I was merely a stage 5 warrior, he dismissed me. That’s because Azrael had already become a stage 6 fighter, quite close to reaching stage 7.”
Clarice raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
“That’s all? For an entire week, he was evaluating you?”
Yami nodded, releasing another hollow laugh.
“And for some reason, he kept asking about you and the kids. He wanted to know more. I don’t understand why he suddenly became interested in us after years of abandonment. As if… as if…”
Yami’s fingers curled into tight fists as his teeth ground together.
“… As if he wanted to rekindle things with us again.”
Clarice exhaled slowly, her shoulders sagging.
“And now, you’re being forced to go back and seek their help.”
Grey lifted an eyebrow, clearly confused.
“Huh? Help? What do you need their help for?”
Yami simply shook his head, forcing a strained smile onto his face.
“It’s nothing.”
Clarice frowned before turning toward Grey.
“Yami wants to seek their help because of his desire for revenge.”
Grey looked even more puzzled.
“Revenge?”
Clarice nodded in response.
“Your wolf pet there…” she said, pointing at Noir.
Noir perked up instantly, a low growl escaping him as his voice echoed directly inside their minds.
“I am no pet, woman.”
Clarice ignored his protest and continued calmly.
“He told us that aside from the Principal of the Aetherian Academy, there is another Zodiac in this world holding a high position.
After hearing how strong you are and learning about your plan to confront the principal and rescue Finral, Yami didn’t want to sit idle and do nothing.
He decided it was wiser to enlist the aid of the same family that never cared whether he lived or died.
He wanted their influence and connections to uncover where the second Zodiac was and who that individual truly was, all so he could take revenge for the deaths of Millie and Vanessa.”
Grey slowly tilted his head, staring at Yami, who was now rubbing the back of his hair awkwardly, eyes shifting away.
Clarice continued, her voice trembling amidst broken sobs.
“Pl… please tell him not to do this. The road of vengeance you both want to walk is frightening and destructive. I… I don’t want to lose either of you, please.”
Yami’s shoulders sagged, his posture losing its usual firmness.
“Listen, Clarice. It’s going to be fine.”
Grey shook his head slowly.
“… I don’t fully agree with a single perspective here. I agree with both of you, just on different points.”
The couple stared at him, brows furrowed in confusion.
“Yami sir, there’s no certainty that approaching your family will give any meaningful outcome. Based on your history, Hilton doesn’t value blood ties or kinship. He only respects power.
If you can’t demonstrate your usefulness to him, I doubt he would lift a finger to assist. On that point, I agree with mother Clarice.”
“But…” Yami started to speak, only to be interrupted.
“And I also agree with you,” Grey continued calmly. “We must identify who the second otherworlder in this world is. And we will take revenge. Without exception.
I don’t care about the method or the road I must walk. I want vengeance, and I will claim it no matter the cost.”
Grey clenched his fists, knuckles whitening as pain and fury churned within his chest.
Yami narrowed his eyes slightly.
“And how do you plan to do that when we don’t even know the identity of the second otherworlder?”
Grey stroked his chin thoughtfully, eyes narrowing as ideas formed.
“I have something I can attempt. If it fails, then we approach your family together as a final option. You’re not going alone.”
Yami exhaled, then shrugged, pulling his plate of food closer as the rainfall outside slowly eased.
“… I haven’t agreed to your terms yet. I can’t think properly on an empty stomach, so let’s eat first.”
He paused briefly, then added,
“And afterward, we should probably get some rest.”
