Capítulo 728: Unexpected Punching Bag

CHAPTER 728

An ashen portal opened up in a certain landscape.

Normally, there used to be a medium-sized building here, but now, it had been reduced to rubble.

A few metres away from the ruins, a small, modest-looking house could be seen.

Stepping out of the portal was Grey, his gaze fixed ahead as the ashen gateway vanished from view behind him.

Glancing around the place, he steeled himself before proceeding to walk toward the building.

Giving the door a few knocks, he waited patiently for several seconds until it slowly cracked open, revealing a middle-aged man standing before him with a sword in hand.

Grey froze.

His eyes widened in shock as his composure suddenly shattered.

“Darling, who’s at the door?” a feminine voice called out from inside.

The middle-aged man smiled as he stared at the young lad in front of him.

“It’s just an unruly student of mine.”

“Ya… Yami sir?” Grey stuttered in disbelief, causing the man’s smile to widen even further.

“Come on in, Grey,” Yami said as he forcefully dragged the kid into the house.

Actually, it wasn’t really a house but a dojo.

Still, given that their main residence had been destroyed, there wasn’t much choice.

Walking inside, Grey glanced around and soon saw Clarice stepping out from a small area deeper within that had been converted into a kitchen.

The moment she saw the mage, she froze in place.

“G… G… Grey? You’re fine?”

Yami merely grinned as he smacked the back of the mage’s head lightly.

“Of course he is. After all, he’s my student.”

Grey rubbed the spot he was hit and smiled faintly at the woman staring at him.

“Took you long enough to show up,” a snarky voice echoed within the mage’s mind.

Tilting his head slightly, Grey spotted Noir in his pup-like form, yawning occasionally while innocently licking his paw without a care in the world.

Clarice walked forward, her eyes already moist, and without hesitation pulled the mage into a deep, warm hug as tears poured down her cheeks like torrents.

Memories of the incident flashed through Grey’s mind.

His hands clenched tightly as he recalled how the girls had been murdered and how Clarice herself had nearly been killed as well.

“I’m s—”

Clarice swiftly pulled back, hurriedly wiping her eyes dry as she shook her head at Grey.

Yami calmly walked toward Clarice, then turned to face Grey, who had dropped his gaze low in both reverence and guilt.

“Look at me,” Yami ordered.

Grey refused to budge, his eyes remaining lowered, tears gathering and blurring his vision as he resisted lifting them.

“I said, look at me!” the man bellowed forcefully, causing Grey to slowly raise his head.

Tears streamed down his face, his lips quivering as he struggled to form any words.

“I… I’m sorr—”

TWACK!

A loud crack echoed through the dojo, causing even Noir to spring to his feet in shock as Yami landed a resounding slap across Grey’s face.

The force sent the mage sliding backward, his cheek throbbing in pain.

Yet, he didn’t retaliate, remaining silent as tears continued to slide down his face.

“Yami!” Clarice scolded, but the man didn’t even glance at her as he moved like a blur, materializing in front of the mage within a heartbeat.

“How dare you?!” His voice was a low growl as he grabbed Grey by the hair, yanked his face downward, and in one smooth motion drove his knee straight into the mage’s face.

Blood splattered instantly as the mage was hurled across the room, crimson pouring from his nose and mouth while he landed painfully on his backside.

Yami was about to move again when Clarice hastily jumped between them, her stance firm, eyes blazing as she faced her husband.

“What are you doing?! Do you want to kill him?”

Yami tilted his head in her direction, a deep glare burning in his eyes.

“Yes! I want to kill him!”

A low snarl echoed as Noir moved on instinct, standing on guard the moment those words were spoken.

Though he always acted indifferent toward Grey, deep down, he cared far more than he let on.

“Wh… what?” Clarice muttered, staring at her husband in shock.

Grey, on the other hand, slowly pushed himself to his feet.

He gently moved Clarice aside and stepped forward, placing himself back in front of Yami.

“Hit me as much as you like. I deserve it all. After all, I failed you. You trained me. You gave me shelter when I had none.

You gave me food when I was starving. You took me in as your own, fed me, clothed me, protected me, and gave me power when you didn’t even know who I was.”

The mage’s fists clenched tightly, his knuckles whitening in an instant.

“And what did I do? I let your daughters be killed while I stood there unable to do anything. I was weak, powerless, and could only wa…”

Swooosh—!

Yami moved like a raging storm, roughly grabbing Grey by the collar and pulling him close.

His eyes were moist as he stared deeply into the mage’s gaze.

“How dare you…?”

Grey hung helplessly a few inches off the ground, staring back at the man who glared at him with a storm of emotions.

Clarice watched anxiously. She knew how powerful Grey truly was, yet this time he did nothing.

He simply endured the blows in silence.

On the other hand, Yami was a loose cannon.

Powerful and childish at the same time. One could never tell when he was joking or when he was serious.

But when he truly locked in, whoever stood in his path was obliterated.

Grinding his teeth, Yami suddenly released his grip and gently tossed Grey back onto his feet.

“How dare you apologize to me?” he uttered, causing everyone present to stare at him in disbelief.

He calmly wiped his eyes with his sleeves as a warm smile slowly crept onto his face.

“And how dare you not retaliate when I hit you? Is that what I taught you, eh? You brat.”

Grey was completely stunned as he slowly lifted his head, blood still trailing from his nose while he stared at the man before him.

“Yo… you aren’t upset or blaming me for Millie and Vanessa’s death?”

Yami burst into loud laughter.

“Of course not, dumbass.”

“What?!” Grey’s mouth fell open in shock.

Guys! Check out my new world and give it a go.
